Works as you expect, but lacks some additional features

Ok, so it does what it says on the tin, and UKash won't charge you for cash withdrawals, although the ATMs in the US do.

You cannot get the mobile app to work with the travel money cards and you cannot change the PIN, so as long as you take this into consideration, it works fine.

We currently don't offer an app for the Ukash Travel Money Card although we are making our website mobile friendly so you'll be able to top-up and manage your card easily which should be live soon.

Regarding the PIN change we are looking into this, in the meantime should you need a PIN reminder please contact customer services.

Ucan with Ukash

Simple and easy to use with good rates , I loaded it with funds most days rather than all at one go in case card lost and it was easy peasy to do with no issues

will use every time from now on

TERRIBLE.. Only use if you want to insanely budget e.g. use no money at all...

I thought this card would be absolutely ideal for me, I was travelling around Europe for a month and needed a card that I could store cash on safely and I could withdraw cash without any fees. This set up was perfection until 1 week into my travels I tried to top up my card online with a debit card I had previously registered and had previously transferred money from. An error appeared whilst doing this telling me that the transaction had not been completed properly so it was not in my ukash account but it was 'likely' to have been withdrawn from my debit card. I rang up the free (thank god) number they had given me where I was told they would try and get everything corrected and dealt with 'as soon as possible' to cut a long story short after numerous pestering emails it was not until 3WEEKS later my money was returned into the account of my debit card. Within this time the company knew I was travelling and to their knowledge I could be penniless but nothing made the process any quicker. Not that many people can afford to have money floating in cyberspace however, I am a student who used all my savings to fund this trip and due to ukash being unable to ensure that no other money would go missing if I tried to transfer I had to use my debit card for the remainder of the trip. My story could have been a lot worse if the amount of cash transferred was larger thankfully for me it was not so I hope I can help anyone else avoid this.

Well worth it

You don't have to worry about carrying cash around with you. I had no problems with it. Used it to pay for food in restaurants and in shops. Doesn't cost anything to use a cashpoint and it tops up straight away.

Easier and more convenient than cash

I used Ukash for the first time on holiday in the USA. It was accepted everywhere, and was really easy to top up and see what I was spending by logging on to the internet.
My view is that it's far safer than using cash.

We've reviewed our refund processes and believe that your request has been resolved.

As with most prepaid travel money card providers we advise that you should not use your card at the automated pumps because it can impact your available balance. When you check into a hotel or hire a car or used your card at a petrol stations, they often will freeze the deposit amount on your card which can stop you from spending this money for up to 30 days. It’s best not to use your card for security deposits unless you are sure there is enough money on your card to cover the deposit and any other spending. If you have any further issues please contact customer services.

Far more convenient than travellers cheques or cash

Euro card used for recent trip to Majorca - accepted in the majority of ATMs' and as a standard Mastercard for purchases, making it very easy to draw cash or pay bar/restaurant bills.

Safe and convenient with the added benefit of Ukash exchange rates (more attractive than others on offer) - I chose to add funds in advance when FX favourable

Ability to add funds online when travelling was also useful...

Easy to use with good exchange rates

It was straightforward to apply for and topping up is easy. I used it in France and Italy, with very few problems. A very few cash machines refused it, from minor, local banks. Using the big names saw no problems.

Safe and convenient, with an unbeatable exchange rate

I take a number of foreign breaks in the year and used to take Euros in cash for spending. With Ukash, it is far safer and a lot more convenient to use the Travel Money Card - it can be used in the same way as a credit/debit card or used to withdraw sensible amounts of cash at ATMs.

One of the most attractive features is that you can load money onto the Ukash card at any time, so it can be used to save for a holiday and take advantage of the best exchange rate, at the most favourable time. Any unspent money on the card can be kept for another trip.

Brilliant! Just get one!

I researched currency cards thoroughly before travelling to Greece last month. I always check Martin Lewis' - moneysavingexpert - website for his opinion on pretty much anything to do with money. He recommended this card and I was a little dubious since I had never heard of it, but we never had a single problem. We took my iphone and my partner's tablet and I topped up easily on both. (There was free Wi-Fi everywhere so it was never a problem).

There are no fees for anything. All the other cards are similar but not as good as Ukash. For example - you only have to top-up by a minimum of £50 whereas with others the minimum is £200! If you only have a day or two left of your holiday and you need to top-up, do you really want to put £200 onto the card? Maybe you don't even have that in your bank account. It's also easy to save holiday money every month if you only have to put £50 on at a time. We did only top-up as we needed it just in case we lost it or it got stolen. Even if it did, your money is totally protected. You get the best exchange rate and the card lasts for two years!

I agree with others that the website is not the best. I made sure I got the card well in advance and got to grips with the website as best as I could before travelling. I also checked the pin at an ATM well in advance.

Also, I contacted customer services a few times with a few questions and they were all very pleasant and knowledgeable. They told me to NOT to change the pin and the app does not work for the travel cards. It is only for the normal pre-paid card. I have just ordered the USD card for our trip next year I was so impressed with the Euro card. Don't listen to the bad reviews. I would not hesitate in recommending this product to anybody.

When it worked it was great !

On the whole the card was great .
Wish there had been an app for my phone to make life easier , as it's a pain logging into two different sites to down load money & get a balance.
Also being able to change you pin would be good .
We had two main problems -
1. One day whilst on holiday we tried to transfer funds on to the card & it just wouldn't work ! They were showing on my bank account but not on the card ??
Luckily we were with friends who payed our dinner bill !!
Next day it worked fine ??

2. On the last day of the holiday I had to fuel up the hire car , in USA you have to prepay , I put in $60 but only used just over $40 . I then thought I had a few dollars left to buy some food at the airport but it didn't go back on my card until I'd got home !! I now have just over $19 left on the card & can't use it !!

We're pleased that you feel that the card was great and we appreciate your feedback so that we can improve. We are currently working to make our website more mobile friendly which means you wont need an app, and these changes are due in the next few weeks.

Looking at your two issues.

1) Loading the card should be instant and we believe that this has been resolved, should you have any further issues please contact customer services.

2) I'm sorry you had an issue at a petrol station, as with most prepaid travel money cards we advise that you should not use your card at the automated pumps because it can impact your available balance. When you check into a hotel or hire a car or used your card at a petrol stations, they often will freeze the deposit amount on your card which can stop you from spending this money for up to 30 days. It’s best not to use your card for security deposits unless you are sure there is enough money on your card to cover the deposit and any other spending.

Regarding the money left on your card, you can either keep the funds on your card for your next trip as we do not charge monthly fees and is valid for 2 years or contact us to discuss the options.

We are working at the ability to be able to change your PIN and we hope to launch this soon, in the meantime if you forget your PIN our Customer Services team can send you a reminder.

We hope you will continue to use the card and appreciate your feedback, for any further issue please contact Customer Services.

Card blocked automatically after being unblocked by the CS team

My card initially worked fine. Then when I used an incorrect PIN and it got blocked. The Customer Support team quickly unblocked it for me but when I tried to pay at a POS using the right PIN it was blocked all over again.
I hope you can resolve this issue soon. I will be travelling abroad in the coming months and I want to use my card again as the exchange rate is the best in the market.

Regards,

Fantastic safe way to spend your money abroad and get some control on overspending.

This card was so good every other year i seem to be paying someone else for me to walk to the cash point and get my money out and in this world so much smaller than before i asked myself why and then i went looking and found UKASH this was a brilliant product that worked. Easy to top up onlne at any time with rates locked in until you spend. Smart looking card and easy to use. Plus i think i will be charging it up like a savings card for next time.

Ukash usorted me out

What an excellent card I used it for both paying bills and getting out cash and didn't cost a penny whilst in Italy. Also it was a great rate when I topped it up in the UK before I left.
I would like to be able to check the remaining balance from cash machines without having to log on to do this that's the only negative I can think off.

Easy to use, no charges, exactly what we wanted !!

We recently travelled to France and got a ukash card to use whilst away. We ordered the card online and it was delivered in a matter of days. The top up process for the card was simple and quick while in the uk, although I think it would be useful if you was able to top up via text when abroad as this would make sure you could avoid any data charges while away or the need to find some wifi. The card is accepted everywhere and the only places it didn't work was on the toll booths (this was mentioned in the frequently asked questions part of the site. It also didn't work at the 24 hr unmanned petrol pumps think this is due to the need for balance to be checked before a transaction can be made. All in all we was extremely happy with the card, we paid no charges on any transactions either paying for goods or withdrawing cash. I would and have recommended the ukash travel card to my friends and family and will definitely be using it again.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

For me, the UKASH Euro card has not been a success. For no discernible reason, it failed, occasionally, to work in Croatia and in France. Sometimes it would work in the morning, and not in the afternoon. Most annoyingly it failed to work when I tried to buy a large-ish consignment of wine in Calais on the day of my return. This means I am left with a considerable sum, in Euros, on my card, which will incur fees if I try to cash it in UK. Not impressed.

Great exchange rate but lacks ease of use of other cards

The Ukash Travel Money MasterCard gives a very good exchange rate and I had no problems using it in the USA either in shops, restaurants or at ATMs. However, their website is confusing and the top-up process is convoluted. Managing the account whilst abroad was tricky on my smartphone. They probably need to introduce an SMS based top-up/balance inquiry process and/or a mobile app. I also can't work out how to cash out, their website needs to be made more helpful and intuitive.

Terrible waste of time and money

I had a nightmare with this card.

Couldn't get a PIN until I'd already been in the US for a week (despite ordering the card 6 months in advance), the mobile app doesn't work, the link to top up the card disappeared from my account, the card wasn't accepted in 2 out of 3 shops I tried to use it in, every time I contacted customer services they took 2-3 days to reply.

All problems finally resolved 3 days before the end of my 3 week trip, by which point it was useless.

When I asked for a cancellation and refund as the card was now useless, they tried to charge me €25 for the privilege.

Useless!
