Great when it works

Great when it works, but I have been offline now FOR A MONTH, LET THAT SINK IN. Sent me a new router and cables (waited forever for them to be sent) and it still does not work. I Wonder if I will make two months?

Edit:
new router worked, someone needs to check their refurb routers though, the SSID was set as 'STINKY' - less than proffessional.

Please avoid in UK or Ireland!

Before I start, I am a huge Elon Musk fan, and I have never wished for something to work more, but it’s awful. The first 3-4 weeks it was amazing! Giving me 100mbps speeds in an area I was getting 10-15mbps. Then overnight it started becoming intermittent saying “possibly obstructed”. I blamed my child’s trampoline, so I purchased the accessory so it could be bolted to the top of my garage roof. Same problem. After numerous hours over the space of a month, completely abrupt and dismissive customer service “closing my ticket”, they gave me a free month and replaced all my new equipment with refurbished equipment. It worked perfect for 2 days and back to “possibly obstructed”. Which I’ve since learned also means “lose of signal”. Customer service again offered more “refurbished equipment” to which I told them there is no point, it’s not the equipment. It’s the signal. How much refurbished equipment have they, to which I now know is returns of people inside the first 30 days. I’m outside of that with £500 worth of equipment and no internet at any consistency at all. I’ve taken 100’s of screenshots for customer service, with outages in days consistently every 2 minutes. You couldn’t get a song finished on Alexa. Customer service said “you can sell the equipment”….. mmmmm….. I’ve a Tesla Model Y ordered to land on the 23rd November (again I’m a huge Musk fan) but it will be cancelled and BMW or Mercedes will get my money. Even if I lose my £1000 deposit. They can land rockets back to earth (unreal documentary) but they cannot provide internet. If this had happened within the first two weeks, I would not be stuck with this shambles. I’ve since learned Northern Irish weather doesn’t help. I’m am sending this via 4g as it’s raining heavy outside. Just please avoid my mistake. I had better dial up internet back in 1996. If you decide to try it, be very aware you’ve 30 days before you cannot get your money back for all the equipment purchased. And if you’re Uk, I can only imagine how bad this will be during heavy winter. AVOID and do not fall for the same trap I have.

The good and the bad.

I have only had the Hardware for 24 hrs now, and am very happy with the signal, but the Router is not a strong router. I do not even get a signal in a room on the same floor as the router. I bought an adapter this morning, hoping to sort that out. My main problem with Starlink is that even though they have various places on the web with a link to go to customer services, there is no such webpage. The link is defunct. Now, Starlink is owned by such a rich man, shame on him. So, zero customer service, yet customer service is one if not the most important part of business. I do not know how he has made his billions, Just think how much more he could have made if he did it right.

Terrible

Terrible. Outages or extremely slow speeds almost daily. We live on a prarie in Oklahoma with no obstructions. Tech support, which is nearly impossible to reach said this is normal because they are overloaded. Frequently does something which requires me to re-enter the ungodly long password. Not at all what it was supposes to be. If you have zero internet service it will seem like a dream. If you have even marginal service right now, you will be unhappy with the switch.

Failed after 3 weeks

I received my Starlink and was delighted. The speeds were excellent. 3 weeks after install, it completely failed. Customer service said that it was a rare fault, so they would send me a full new kit. I pointed out that, having had to pay to install it already, they should cover the cost of the replacement installation. They refused. Furthermore, having paid for a new kit, the replacement one is a refurbished 2nd hand kit. They tell me this is fine as it also has a one year warranty. Disgraceful service and poor quality tech. I expected much better.

This is still a product in beta phase…but it’s a great service

This is still a product in beta phase which means that customer service will be poor. If you do your research you will see that purchasing and customer service will be not a great experience, but everything else is worth any hassle. I live 500m from a fibre enabled openreach box and due to Jurassic Park Openreach despite hammering on every door I am not connected to it and have download speeds of 3mb on a connection that is 3 miles from a green box. I took the gamble With starlink - parts arrived and it is so easy to install no help is needed. The quality is very good. I bought additional good quality parts to install it into my home network and on the roof (a builder with no technical knowledge can fit to the building). You shouldn’t need customer service unless you are very unlucky. Just do your research first so you know what to expect and use the app that tests the satellite coverage before you buy - the app will help you understand where you will need to install your dish and if you will have a good connnection. All the equipment and parts arrived from the US quickly and are very good quality. Years of frustration have been washed away - it’s 😊. I will also add that they sent me an email recently telling they are dropping the price by £14 per month to align better with the market - how many companies drop their subscriptions!!

Worst product Ive bought for years

Worst product Ive bought for years. Started well then after a week it got slower and slower. Became unusable and went back to old broadband supplier against my wishes. No customer service whatsoever. Wireless coverage around the home was weak even with full mesh installed. Utter waste of money.

Starlink RV is an awesome piece of kit

Starlink RV is an awesome piece of kit. I bought it at the end of my season and didn't get the right attachment gear so I didn't get much use out of it. I found that it works really well though. When I contacted Space X and told them i wanted to pause the service until next summer and asked for a refund of the £100 service charge because I had barely used the product, they got back to me within 10 minutes saying my refund was being processed. I felt like it was highly courteous and proffesional.

I've had Starlink since September 2021.

I've had Starlink since September 2021.
My only other source of internet was BT - which delivered ~6mbps download and ~0.7mbps upload.
The experience in rural Oxfordshire has been life changing. Our entire house is networked, with three TV's able to download 4k movies simultaneously and my son able to game his latest favourite. I also have a home office and use Zoom and Teams most days without problem.
Speeds are variable, but I average ~200mbps down and ~25mbps up.
Very few interruptions, most updates are around 4am UK time, so hardly an inconvenience.
Customer service isn't great, although when I've contacted them, I get a response normally within 24hrs. The great thing is that its so simple to set up, so you don't really need their support.
Most frustrations are cause by obstructions, so be warned, if you have tree's make sure your dish has a clear line of sight. An app supplied by Starlink will do this for you. But don't guess. Obstructions will cause disconnects and slow speeds.
Our dish is roof mounted and most are, to guarantee no obstructions.
Those I know in the UK with Starlink have similar speeds and positive experience.
It is costly. Hardware to set up is ~£500 and monthly charges £89. (All uncapped data currently). But when you've no useable internet, cost is a little less sensitive.
If you have fibre or copper with speeds up around 30mbps or more, I wouldn't consider Starlink. Your gain is not sufficient to out way the cost.
As is I said, its literally been lifechanging.

I live in rural Cornwall

I live in rural Cornwall - 10 minute setup, download usually around 150 can be down to 30-40 occasionally. System went down which I think was a loose ethernet port in bottom of router but within 4 hours Starlink had arranged to ship me refurbished kit from US to replace. Be aware needs ethernet adapter on version 2 to connect into WLAN of existing system to use this

Terrible

Terrible, downloaded the app to check the availability in my area, showed strong availability so i took the plunge, the idea of 150-300mb was fantastic. how wrong was i.

After 72 hours dealing with virtually impossible customer support i got 0 to 3mb.

Another 3 days passed dealing with a virtual app for support and they sent a new dish. when it arrived same result.

Another 3 days arranging the return. now i have to wait for a refund.

Please read the reviews the product doesn’t work and the support doesn’t work.

Proceed with caution

10/10

I live in a fairly remote area with poor broadband. Starlink [although a bit apple in its minimalistic design and contents] has instantly given me a 15MB upload [up from 1MB] and 250mb download [up from 10mb!]

Extremely easy to set up and configure, very happy so far and highly recommend for those in remote areas.

I can also take it to my holiday home abroad as it's covered there! Fantastic

Not even bad but non-existent customer service!

I am on day 8 of no internet now and despite using their 'customer support' chat system online I am no closer to finding out what is wrong, in fact I haven't even had a reply!!

Absolutely non-existent customer service from Starlink, it's shocking. No phone number or email to contact them, I even tried tweeting both Starlink and Elon Musk thinking I would have more success, nothing.

Doesn't matter how good the internet speeds might be when it's working, 8 days of nothing isn't worth it. I would encourage you to AVOID STARLINK AT ALL COSTS. It's really not worth it, especially if you are trying to run a business!!!

Appalling non existent service that’s not fit for purpose

I am utterly disgusted with Starlink, who seem to have such disdain for the customers that after two years, there still isn’t any customer service. This, despite dozens of desperate claims on the Internet. Take my word for it, Starlink doesn’t care about you it just wants your money.

I myself have been waiting nearly a week already for any response whatsoever after my system completely died. We have had no internet at all for a week (imagine that). I have threatened legal action and they still haven’t got through to me, so I will be following through on that.

If I were you, unless you don’t need Internet on a daily basis, or any customer service, I definitely wouldn’t go near them with a barge pole. Their limited FAQs seem to have been written by an 8 year old in about 30 minutes. Hopeless. Maybe at sometime in the future if they stop their downright arrogance and actually employ some staff, things might be resolved, but as I have said they haven’t done it yet and it’s not like Elon is short of money is it. Personally i think they’re just sneering down their noses at us.

Additionally the company is registered in the UK and multiple European destinations with one single director, 39 year old LAUREN ASHLEY DREYER an engineer for Starlink who also ‘runs’ Lithuania and others. Must be a very busy person. And the one share of £1 is owned by an Amsterdam Shell company, STARLINK HOLDINGS NETHERLANDS B.V., so that they don’t pay UK tax, or any tax from any jurisdiction for that matter.

This is a highly expensive, supposedly premium, unreliable product, and there are better options. In any case, i barely get more speed than i can on 4G! Find someone else because they do not deserve our business.

Avoid like the plague

As others have said Customer Service is non existent.
My husband had his card details stolen so the bank had to stop the card, I updated payment details online within a week and over 3 months later we are still getting emails to say payment required even though connection was cut shortly after. We've both tried everything to get through to "customer service" but there's no-one there.
We now have a dish which cost a fortune that we can't return. Wasted money.

Terrible speeds and zero service. Zero points.

Terrible. No customer service whatsoever, just a half dozen FAQ’s that might have been written by a teenager in an hour. Speed dropped within a month to under 30M, which is worse than my last supplier, but at three times the cost! Not to mention the up front money for the kit. Totall utter arrogance. Knew i shouldn’t have bought anything from Musk!! Don’t bother.

Customer service isn't part of the service. Yes, the internet speed is pretty good when it works. But when something goes wrong there's no support and no apologies. It's like Elon Musk himself has written the playbook. Don't buy into starlink unless you're prepared to pay ££ even if the service isn't working.
