Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers encountered significant problems with payment processing, including account access issues and difficulties with tax-related transactions. People also frequently reported a complete lack of effective customer service, with unresponsive support teams, reliance on unhelpful chatbots, and an inability to speak with a human representative. Reviewers consistently experienced difficulties with the service, noting that it often failed to perform as expected, particularly after a change in payroll processors. This led to difficulties with payroll processing and financial transactions. The response time from support was also a major point of dissatisfaction, with many waiting days or weeks for replies that often did not resolve their issues. The staff, when reachable, were perceived as unhelpful and unable to provide clear solutions.

Horse crap technology

Horse crap technology.

"If you receive the error, “Couldn’t connect to your institution,” it’s because there’s a known issue between our third-party data aggregator and your bank."

How is this even a thing in 2021? You are partnered with RBC and you are blaming your inability to connect customers to their banking on a third party app lol.

Hire a better product team.

This software has bugs and errors which the company seem to not care about and never fix.

They only respond via social media, in case someone is trying to get information from them.

Using the software in the UK, you would think to encourage a new customer to begin processing online payments through the software (their main source of income) they would apply their efforts into making the software function properly but they don't.

They are focusing on the US & Canadian market now so even the useless support team simply refer me to online forum help and dangle a discounted offer to sign-up with another provider.

Likely the worst professional experience of my life

I used their accounting software for a few months and their payroll and invoicing services for a few years before realizing it is fundamentally flawed.

They have no way of storing receipts with transactions, and when you try to use their receipt scanner it literally doubles the transaction, making your books unbalanced until you manually find the same transaction and delete it. This has been documented and requested in their forums for YEARS, and a user even developed a Chrome plugin to work around it since they didn't move on it for YEARS.

They automate tax payments from your bank account, but don't provide any breakdown as to which taxes the sum represents. Your bank statement will stay something like, "IRS payment" when in fact its a split transaction between Social Security, Medicare and Federal Income tax withholding. Its up to you to go back to each payroll for the quarter and figure out how they arrived at this total and to which tax branches you have paid and how much. It is extremely tedious and makes no sense that they are calculating this in the background without reporting it or including it in the books for the user to see. End of the year taxes with them are a nightmare of trying to back-calculate all the sums they report on W-2s, 940s and 941s.

I have spent countless hours fixing their mistakes, paying for underpaid taxes, amending returns, seeking returns for doubled payments, pulling my hair out as I get no response from their help center and tax forms and payments are due in a couple of days even though they've had the data to automate the form a month ago. Its like doing double the work to double check all the things they send you last minute and on top of that you get to pay them money for it!

On top of it all, last year in June they essentially told me they would no longer being able to help me file my tax forms as I had a foreign address (As I had for the past 2 years of being with them). So I had to rush to learn all my tax compliance regulations before my next quarterly return due in a few weeks. It was extremely unprofessional. I can understand if they choose to stop serving foreign addresses, but you can't just drop a customer you've been serving for years in the middle of the tax year without notice. On top of all this, their exporting tools are absolutely terrible, so I am stuck paying for their services until the end of the year else I'd lose access to the info I need to do my end of they year taxes. An unbelievably terrible experience. I feel scammed, disappointed, and extremely stressed due to their atrocious customer service and lack of understanding of basic double-entry accounting.

Incorrect 1099-K form

I recently received a 1099K form from WAVE that tied deposits from the past year to my personal SS number instead of the TIN number of the company the account belonged to. I am currently trying to get the error corrected and was told by the on-line customer service rep that there was plenty of time to fix the issue since the IRS deadline for corrections is June/July. They will not provide a phone number to speak with their payment operations dept. DON'T EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Wave accounting: CANNOT FIX ITS DATA AGGREGATOR ISSUES!!

In February 2020, the Wave accounting bank transaction import routine ceased to function.

As a results only manual imports could be done from bank accounts. I have been communicating with Wave accounting since and they have been incapable of restoring the previous programming. Multiple users are now screaming and forced to use manual imports leading to inefficiencies and frustration.

The ranking of Wave accounting should be downgraded for its inability to support its customers.

I think WaveApps is great

I am a sole proprietor who, in all honesty, is too cheap to pay for software to use for bookkeeping. I have been using WaveApps for several years and remain very happy. I was surprised to see such a low score for them when I came on here. But I don't use their invoicing or banking features. Nor do I give out any personal info. So, I haven't had any of the problems that other users have experienced.

TERRIBLE!!!

TERRIBLE!!!! DO NOT USE THEM!!! They will allow you to create invoices, collect payment online, and then a few days later email you saying the payments have been refunded and now you suddenly need to embarrassingly tell your customers you need to collect payment AGAIN because you were declined the online payment use with ZERO explanation. THEN they don’t actually refund people. They take the money away from you and the entire thing has been one embarrassing ridiculous mess. NEVER AGAIN. DONT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Never in my life have I been so angry at a bank

Just sent Wave Money (their banking system) the following email: Please close my application for wave money. I have never in my life experienced such terrible customer service. It has been three weeks since I applied. I never hear back when I email. I was asked to send one document which I sent. I was told I’d hear back in 1-2 days. Two weeks and multiple emails later I finally signed on to a chat to find out what is going on. I was told I had been sent an email yesterday which I don’t have asking for more documents. Why I wasn’t asked to provide all the needed documents at one time instead of dealing with the above nonsense for three weeks is beyond me. I haven’t been able to access my business funds for three weeks since I closed my previous account in order to use the cashiers check to open with you guys. I will be looking for another bank as well as a new merchant services system since I’m so livid at the ridiculous run-around I have been made to deal with. Maybe it’s because my business is quite small? Do you only care about businesses with millions of dollars? I fail to understand how you can treat longtime customers this way. I am extremely disappointed and angry about how I have been treated and it seems like I never actually deal with actual people only robots. I can’t call an actual phone number and instead get “handled” by bots or people who could give a crap. I hope the robot reading this forwards it to an actual person so that maybe future customers won’t have to deal with this totally ridiculous and needless situation. Y’all need to sort yourselves out.

This company is a complete piece of s**t

This company is a complete piece of s**t, don't mess with them. My client paid an invoice of $ 8,500, the money was supposed to arrive on November 18, but wave delayed the money, and today they blocked my account without explanation. And they decided to keep the client's money for 65 days also without explaining the reasons. At the same time, they do not make contact, do not want to resolve the situation. The payment is as transparent as possible and there were no chargebacks. If you want your money and your client's money to fall into the hands of these scammers, then you are welcome

Wave Stay away from this company

I signed up with them and started…

I signed up with them and started processing payments and all of a sudden, they suspended my account for investigation about my clients. I provided them with all the information requested, but yet they've decided to keep all my payouts (10's of thousands of dollars) for 120 days before releasing, if no payer ask for refund. Despite of all the proofs provided including copies of passports, billing addresses, contracts, all messages exchanged with the customer...., nothing. The worst was you get no-one to talk to if not email. They didn't even want to understand that they action could cripple my business down; they replies were cocky, rude and heartless.
Very frustrating and costly experience I wish for nobody!

Great invoicing and accounting software for free

We've used WaveApps with monthly recurring invoices for 3+ years now. Our customers typically pay via credit card and we always get the money quickly (less the standard 2.9% CC processing fee).

It's also great the WaveApps functions as our accounting software, and fully integrates with our business bank account so we can easily keep our books.

I've never used QuickBooks, but as a startup, Wave has met all of our needs. Their customer support has only been via email, but they've also been responsive (within 1 business day) for all of our needs. We recently needed to give a partial refund to a customer for an annual invoice that was more than 6 months old. Waves software doesn't enable refunds for invoices that old, but their support team made it happen for me (and my customer) the same business day that I submitted the support ticket.

My only wish - if the recurring invoices would offer a temporary, automatically expiring "coupon", that would make my life SOOO much easier. For new customers, we typically offer a small discount for the first month, and it's a giant pain to have to remember to manually update the recurring invoice after the first month and before the second month.

Other than that, Wave has been great.

Scam of a company

This company will take your money, not approve your account and when asked why, will state "compliance" reasons without giving a legit answer. They are completely against protecting police officers and keeping them safe. TRUST the other reviews and steer clear of this POS company.
