So I called Aviva last week to change…
So I called Aviva last week to change the named beneficiary for my term assurance. I tried doing this online via my account but it wouldn't allow me because my policy is over 12 yrs old. The Customer Service guy assured me he would email the necessary paperwork. He didn't. So I called again this morning. After a lengthy AI auto run-around I finally got put through to a living human agent - or so I was told. I then waited and waited until finally, after 20 mins, I was disconnected. Shocking customer service. I have now emailed a complaint to the CEO. I shouldn't have to do this.

My experience with Aviva's handling of…
My experience with Aviva's handling of my ill-health retirement claim has been extremely disappointing.
After submitting all the certified documents and medical evidence requested, I spent months chasing updates, only to receive inconsistent and often contradictory information. At various stages I was told they were waiting for my certifier, then the internal team, then my doctor, then that payment had started, and finally that my claim would not be paid.
I personally contacted my certifier, who confirmed he had already verified my documents directly with Aviva. When Aviva later requested additional information about my doctor, I provided everything requested. I was later told they were waiting for my doctor to respond to an email but when i contactedthe doctor he confirmed he didn't receive an email from Aviva. I was later informed by Aviva that no contact had actually been made.
The most confusing part is Aviva's claim that they could not verify my identity. The same certified passport and bank statement had already been accepted to verify my identity for a change of address, and Aviva even paid £50 compensation into the same bank account they later said they could not use because my identity could not be verified.
When I asked Aviva to explain exactly what part of the identity verification had failed and why the same documents were accepted previously but rejected for my ill-health claim, they refused to answer my questions and simply repeated that their decision would not change.
I submitted formal complaints, spent countless hours on the phone, was left on hold for long periods, and repeatedly had to explain the same situation over and over again and they keep changing goal post. As someone making an ill-health retirement claim, this entire experience caused unnecessary stress at an already difficult time. I expected clear communication, consistent information and transparent decision-making. Unfortunately, that was not my experience and they stressed me both physically and mentally. The whole process lasted for 4 months. I won't recommend to anyone.

Unfortunately cannot give negative stars. Car run into by one of their customers. 3 weeks for engineer. Had to find garage to do repair. Cheque sent then cancelled. Car fixed 3 weeks ago. But still waiting for payment. Accident for £1,400 damage a week short of 4 months ago. Should be banned from doing business.

5th update, what a mess up!
So, having struggled to get my monthly allowance from aviva from april , I now find that strange amounts have been coming into my bank account, that don't tally with the usual pension amounts.
Evidently, Aviva have no idea as they say that these don't appear to be from them, yet, clearly, as the bank attested, they all say aviva pension.
The upshot is that now the HMRC have destroyed my tax code, are going to dock my state pension by hundreds of pounds, and they're saying it's my job to calculate a projection for my 'income' over the next year. And to boot, they're saying that it was Aviva who gave them this ammunition. And Aviva say they don't have the same records of these payments as my bank!
The ineptitude is staggering.
