Not very professional
My whole experience of ID Clinic was disappointing. Whilst the staff were pleasant and friendly, the communication was abysmal. It was not the language barrier as they used a translation app to good effect. No one contacted me before coming out about payment and how this should be done, I had to ask. They requested cash in USD so I went to the bank and took the uncomfortable trip with a lot of cash through customs and into the country. When I got to the clinic and it was time to pay, they seemed unhappy with the smaller denomination bills and the one $50 note that had a tiny ink mark on it. They only accepted the cash when I told them it was all I had, take it or leave it!
The clinic itself is just that, a clinic. It is not a hospital. It is a tiny place on the 5th floor of a commercial unit, with 2 very small bedrooms, and a tiny operating theatre. There are a couple of small clinical rooms and the surgeons office and that’s about it. It looks like a one-man-band set up with a few nurses to assist.
No-one at the clinic ever asked me for a full medical or surgical history. They asked me if I had any medical conditions that I take medication for, but never asked about previous conditions or surgery. Considering I have had cancer and surgery, chemo and radio-therapy in the past and had lymph nodes removed, this should have been asked. I didn’t even get a chance to tell them as the surgeon spent five minutes with me drawing marks on my head and nothing else. I didn’t meet the anaesthetist (the one responsible for keeping me safe during surgery!) until the moment of the operation when she sited a cannula and put me under with barely a word. If I had a chance, I could have mentioned that I get really bad nausea and vomiting after general anaesthesia with vapours, but all I could do was demonstrate on waking!
The surgery itself seemed to have gone ok, but I had asked that they correct the slight droop I have on one side of my forehead to make my face more symmetrical. Instead I woke with paralysis on that side of my forehead exaggerating the droop. 2 weeks on I still cannot move that side of my forehead (cannot raise my eye brow) and am concerned that they have put me in the less than 1% of patients with permanent nerve damage.
I can only hope that the paralysis resolves and the ultimate result is satisfactory. The experience was not at all what I expected and did not instil any confidence in me.

I would like to share my experience working with Bookimed platform. I was looking for a highly experienced ophthalmologist specializing in retinal treatment because my grandfather started experiencing retinal detachment in his left eye. Local hospitals told us that nothinh coulc be done except for taking supportive medication. That’s why we wanted to get a second opinion from a profesional retinoligist.
Hanna contacted me very quickly via whatsapp and selected the right experts for an online consultation based on the medical records we provided. As it turned out, it is actually possible to stop the detachment process using laser coagulation.
I’m very grateful to the medical coordinator Hanna for helping us navigate everything so quickly. We are now about to book a visit to a clinic in Istanbul for an in-person consultation. I found Bookimed after a Google search and could not have been happier with my experience. Tetiana was my guide throughout the whole experience. She took time to understand exactly what I was looking for, provide me with choices that met my requirements and was simply available to answer questions, big and small throughout the entire process. I have been so impressed with kindness, communication, clear understanding and sheer support of Tetiana through Bookimed and have already recommended them to several friends. Finding the right surgeon, hospital, price etc can feel very overwhelming and to have someone there at every step to be an intermediary and answer what may feel like silly questions, with patience made the whole experience exciting and fun, rather than stressful. Very important to know, too, that Bookimed doesn't charge for their services- the hospitals cover that, so you are paying the same price as the hospitals quote directly.

Best experience of my life
I had a very personal and intimate surgery, the medical coordinator I dealt with was so quick, efficient and friendly, and answered all of my questions, supported me through my anxious mind and reassured me every step of the way. The whole process was so smooth and I can't thank Bookimed enough! Would recommend to anyone!!

Good experience overall
Bookimed is quite good at arranging and helping out with medical trips in other countries. Dealing with them via WhatsApp was quite easy and I was able to pick a package and clinic that I needed based on what I told them. All in all, can recommend.
