Rip off-AUD quoted, but not the case

I searched multiple sites for a 3 week rentals and chose carrentals.com as I thought it was an intermediary as they're car was coming from Sixt. I selected AUD and thought the price being $50 cheaper than other sites reasonable. This was quoted in Aud. On arrival to collect I realised they quoted AUD1000 but in small print under added $500 due to it actually quoted USD so effectively costing me $450 than any other prove quoted. SIXT were most apologetic about it, but I need to take it up with csr rentals. Never trust this site!

Booked a car through booking.com which…

Booked a car through booking.com which is the parent company of carrental.com. Car Rental company is called "Avec Rent Car". Collection point was İstanbul Airport. On the 19th of Sep 2024, When I arrived to to Avec desk at the airport to collect the car I booked. The staff at the counter said they will not give me the car I booked. Because the reason was " No issue date on Australian licence" . I shocked with his reason and explained to guy that there is no issue date in Australian licence, but the Expiry Date is available" . Unfortunately the Avec staff very rudely responded to me that he doesn't car. There should be issue date on licence which is ridiculous excuse. Because this is how Australian licence is. And he said he will cancel my reservation. So I forced to contact booking.com car rental customer service to assist me. After spending hours on their useless chat system and talking with 4 different support staff. Last staff I talked forced me to take refund with 3 days rental deduction. When i refused to accept the offer. She threatened me the n there will no refund and told me email to reservation department. After spending hours on chat and talking with different useless staff. I am came to point to give up 3 days rental fee for the fraudulent rental company and just get refund whatever I can get back. And I accepted their offer with 3 days rental lost for nothing. I realised that this fraud car rental Avec ripped off many other customers with same way by showing different reasons. Just ripping of 3 days rental without giving car by showing some ridiculous reasons ( for me, no starting date on licence) and forced to cancel the car booking and then deduct 3 days rental according to their own policy which says if customer cancel the car at counter, they will charge 3 days rental. Smart way to make money without actually renting the car.

When I reported the issue to booking.com . The support team still standed by this fraudulent car rental called Avec and force me to take the offer with 3 days rental deduction or no refund at all.

I honestly warn anyone who plans to rent car in İstanbul Airport never ever use Avec. You might be regret later.

Dont rent a car from a scam company

Hello, When me, my wife and our 2 kids arrived at my destination in Algarve, Portugal, I was informed that I would need to pay double the originally agreed amount at the Movida company. Instead of 370 €, the total was now around 720 €. I had already paid 1200 SEK (around 100 €) with my Amex card, but was told that Amex was not accepted at the rental location. They gave me a handwritten contract stating that I would be liable for 2750 € in case of an accident. To cover this, they offered two types of insurance – one for 289 € and another for 450 €. I believe this handwritten contract is entirely illegal, and I can provide a copy of it. I requested a proper contract, but they refused to provide one. When I returned to Stockholm, I contacted the support number +46844683757. Katarina and Janis from Greece answered in English, and after reading my email, they advised me to read the section on terms and conditions to avoid such surprises. They refuse to refund the booking amount, even though I paid for the cancellation. The company that rents out the cars is called Movida, and Carrentals.com handles the bookings. It was difficult to find both a phone number and an email address for cancellation, and I only managed to find them once I got home. I asked Movida to cancel the car, but they did not assist me either. I just want to warn others to avoid experiencing the same issues. They should stop deceiving their customers regarding the agreed amount. When I booked the car, Trustpilot showed a rating of 5 and it was only a picture of it, but on https: //se .trustpilot .com /, the ratings are 2 for Rentalscar and 1 for Movida Portugal.

Was charged but never got any booking…

Was charged but never got any booking information. Couldn’t reach anyone for customer service without the booking info. The chat went through to someone but the agent kept telling me to talk to carrentals.com, which I thought I was doing - I clicked directly from their site. Can’t find any other help and only told to dispute the charge. Seems like a total scam. Don’t give them your credit card info!!

Deceived by Low Prices

I went to carrentals.com to find discounted car rentals. Sure enough, the prices they offered were unbeatable, so I made my reservation, prepaid a certain amount, and they told me what I could expect to pay at the counter. I ended up paying $150-$200 more than advertised, and the fees were really tricky to figure out.
Don't be deceived, you'll be paying too much before you know it. Two stars because they have responsive customer service, but I couldn't get my money back. I was told "taxes and fees quoted in the price are subject to change."

No service off whatsoever

They’re only interested in taking your money and protecting their client. The car rental providers or companies don’t expect any support from them whenever you need to contact them. Nobody answers and when you email different agents reply to you with different crazy answers that they don’t seem to to know what they are talking about

Scam

Booked a car. When I arrived at the car rental site I was told I needed to provide my own insurance. I never got the car. My credit card was charged and I never got a refund even after disputing the charges with my credit card company. DO NOT USE carrentals.com

Would not recommend this company under…

Would not recommend this company under any circumstances. Charged us $157 for a car hire. When we went to pick the car up they told us they had no record of the booking. We showed them the bank statement and they said there was nothing they could do without a booking reference and refused a refund. After multiple emails they have since acknoweldged they took the money but months on are yet to give us a refund. There customer service is absolutely useless and they palm you off at every opportunity to avoid any accountability. If they offer a better price its not worth it.

I made a reservation for a 7-seater car. An email was sent to me confirming the reservation of a 7-seater car with Budget for $246.38. When I arrived at Budget they said that carrentals only booked a 5-seater car and if I want a 7-seater car I have to pay another €166.06.

Car rental companies are scumbags

Car rental companies are scumbags. We got a sidewall blowout on the hwy with a car that had 37000 kms and had to buy a new tire, $200 plus blew our day of sightseeing and they said if you dont have insurance you aren't covered.. it wasn't my fault it blew, I didn't run over anything.. also at the yvr in vancouver they allow rental companies to advertise that they are in yvr when they arent. Totally misleading and further shows that they can't be trusted and are corrupt. Pay the extra to deal direct with brand companies.. enterprise, etc

Do not use this company

Do not use this company. Scam. We rented a car, and also bought insurance. After arriving in Mexico, they told us we needed to buy insurance again. They said the insurance we bought didn't cover the car. The insurance was with the car rental!!!! This was a total scam. Read on to see others had the same experience. Wish I had read the reviews before booking.

Rental costed twice the advertised price

Do not use this site! Rental costed twice the advertised price!
Mandatory third party insurance was NOT included. And despite the reservation was supposed to include ALL taxes and fees, an airport fee was charged at pick up point.
The reservation was for 147 euros and in the end it costed 373 euros!!

BAD EXPERIENCE

BAD EXPERIENCE
I had an extremely disappointing experience with CarRentals.com. I purchased their insurance (INS) when booking my rental, assuming everything would be covered. However, when I arrived at the rental company to pick up the car, they refused to accept the insurance offered by CarRentals.com. This left me in a very difficult position, as I had to scramble to purchase additional insurance at the rental counter, which was both inconvenient and costly.

This issue caused unnecessary stress and frustration, and it completely defeated the purpose of booking in advance to save time and money. I reached out to CarRentals.com's customer service, but their response was unhelpful and did not resolve the situation.

I would not recommend using CarRentals.com, especially if you plan on purchasing their insurance. It's not worth the hassle and unexpected expenses.

We booked a reservation for a vehicle…

We booked a reservation for a vehicle which we were told we could reserve with a digital card. When we went to pick up the car Sixt stated no digital cards were accepted. We were forced to cancel the reservation with Rentalcar.com to rebook with another card. Given that the issue wasnt our fault and out of our control rentalcar was supposed to issue a refund which they refused. We fought it with our credit card only to be told we need to pay for the car we never got from them. I will never rent a car through them never again, their customer service is rude and will yell at you when requesting the refund, they will even hung up on your face and tell you to f off..

I Booked 2 cars with carrenatal.com

I Booked 2 cars with carrenatal.com, at the pick up time we have got a bigger car, not what we ordered, we asked to cancel it, the rental company agree to give us a full refund but I had to ask carentals.com approval, they didn't agree to the full refund and charged me for 3 days fees - next time I will book directly from the company and with this agency - good to know this is your customer service.

Here's how $382 becomes $930

I thought $338.46 plus $44.00 for insurance was a great deal for a 4-day car rental in France through CarRentals. Boy, was I wrong.

First surprise: after booking, the confirmation email including the insurance policy came from Expedia. Turns out, CarRentals is an Expedia company. Fast forward to France. At the Alamo counter, I was informed that the insurance I purchased through CarRentals was useless. The agent advised me to go directly through them next time and said I had to buy new insurance and seek reimbursement from CarRentals later.

The total charges skyrocketed to €870 (about $930.77), nearly triple the original booking amount:

- €214.12 for time and distance
- €34.50 for premium location charge
- €16.04 for RFO
- €96 for a vehicle upgrade (although I didn't get an upgrade)
- €16 for personal effects coverage
- €33.32 for TWR
- €110 for CDW
- €100.80 for taxes and fees (TVA - TN)

How about these cryptic acronyms in my invoice? Being obscure is a choice, and it's right there in the Alamo contract. Not a good look for them.

Back to the more ridiculous party: in New York, I discovered CarRentals has no customer service number, just an unhelpful bot that directed me to AIG — surprise, they were the policy providers. I called AIG, and TravelGuard answered. Hilarious. Through TravelGuard on the phone, I opened a ticket that remains pending.

With each company taking a cut, it's no surprise that the user experience is awful and the prices are inflated. A single entity managing car rentals would greatly improve the experience and lower costs. Until then, avoid CarRentals by Expedia and book directly with a reputable agency – if only I knew which one.

No way to cancel, even though we’ll ahead of “Cancel by” date

Made a reservation for a rental car at BWI. For Jun 11. I need to cancel the trip and the rental car, but like others have said, the car company directs you to Carrentals.com. Get on the site, no place to cancel the reservation even though I am 7 days before my trip. You go to support menu, and all it is is directions on how to do it. BUT, it doesn’t work. You pull up the reservation and again, no place to cancel it. And of course, no phone number, not even a chat person or bot. Right now I’m going to call my CC company and deny the charge. Any attorneys out there want to start a class action? I’ll be a part of it.
