The Chesney/Salisbury 5 poor heat output

The Chesney/Salisbury 5 fitters were excellent; fitting the woodburner in an old terraced house wasn’t easy, or clean! They deserve a 5* rating.
However, the stove itself, although it LOOKS GOOD, doesn’t give off the expected heat. The heat doesn’t convect as we expected and only warms the, (black slate) hearth area! The company who sold this, (for over 4K), say buying a 4 blade fan would help the heat to flow around the room.
A plumber we know owns a woodburning stove, but not the same model, who has said his stove has VENTS which can be slid open, and his model radiates fantastic heat. Using central heating to top up, as the Chesney /Salisbury fire heat output is disappointing. Wish I had researched different models first and not just relied on sales from a local retailer. Any Advice please?

Great Log Burner

I purchased the Beaumont 5WS Series wood burning stove. It was delivered and installed without issue and the fitters commented on what a good quality log burner it is and how well made it is.
It’s lit all day every day and I am very happy with the purchase and customer experience. It also looks great!

Horrendous install experience

Chesney's did a site visit for an install, said everything was fine, but the installation contractor was difficult and unhelpful, from the first email to arriving. On the day the cherry-picker arrived and the installation team arrived; the designated installer (Tom) remained on the ground and a kid (looked about 19) was sent up in the cherry picker.

First excuse: the cherry picker isn't tall enough - the cherry picker confirms it is and we continue. Second excuse: phone lines are in the way - they ask me to lean out of the second floor window and push them with a broom! Ok, that's done and we are clear. Third excuse: there is an aerial in the way. The guys struggled initially to determine which chimney it even was. They just simply did not want to do the job and had already decided this before they arrived. When I called Chesneys they told me that the contractor had claimed the cherry picker wasn't long enough. I have recorded proof this wasn't the case.

I am now extremely worried as we have paid thousands of pounds to Chesneys, who it turns out went bust a couple of years ago and have apparently been re-purchased from insolvency by the original directors - I am now worried this won't be resolved and we may not be repaid.

UPDATE: Chesney’s reply below is deliberately disingenuous and knowingly untruthful. They have been extremely subpar and unhelpful since early stages and we very much wish we had gone with the other company we spoke to at the time. Their ‘trusted’ install partners are mentioned in other reviews on GMB and here if you want to do some research. I would also be extremely nervous to leave a deposit with a firm that has a chequered financial history.

Dear EJ, It is disappointing to read this review as we are communicating to try and help resolve the issues you encountered this morning 10/02. My contact details have been included in my email, and I would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail. As advised in my email, the installation partner would need to ensure safe access to your chimney stack to avoid the risk of injury/death or damage to your property or others. Unfortunately, the aerial fixed to your chimneystack obstructed the cherry picker, not allowing this safe access to be made. I have also raised my concerns that the cherry picker company (arranged by yourself) should have picked up this obstruction on their initial discussion when quoting you for works. I would welcome a conversation with you to understand your horrendous experience. However, to highlight our process, the initial Chesney’s survey would have been to understand the parameters of your project and offer you a quotation/sales order for the supply of materials in the knowledge that feasibility would depend on the results of your independent chimney sweeps and visit from our installation partner. As discussed at the point of sale, any deposit amount would be refunded in full if you decided not to proceed with your order at any time or for any reason. Once approved and the deposit received, your project was allocated to one of our trusted installation partner companies to survey and provide you with a quotation for the installation. From my review of the communication and project history, it would appear that Tom had tried his utmost to assist throughout by promptly responding to emails, queries and discussing project particulars with you. I believe Tom also quoted for erecting a scaffold tower for your installation, which you decided not to proceed with and would have mitigated the issues encountered today. 

Regarding your concerns, as mentioned in my email, the order you have placed with Chesneys can be refunded in full if you decide not to proceed. However, I hope we can work with you to find a way to complete this project for you.

Terrible smoking stove

I have now tried for over a year to get Chesney to explain the smoke that fills my room whenever we try to use our Salisbury wood stove, which sets off the smoke alarm. From "it needs to warm up first" to "there's cold air locked in the flue", nothing makes sense. Friends with stoves (granted usually of Nordic origin) are happily using their stoves nightly and opening and adding wood. My only conclusion is that this is either a substandard stove or they have no clue about how these stoves should be installed. Terrible experience. AVOID

Everything was as good as I had hoped

Everything was as good as I had hoped, I had to delay the delivery due to the Gazebo it was to go in not being finished on time, I had opted for the White gloves delivery and when I did request delivery it arrived on time and was unpacked and installed with the minimum of fuss.whilst unpacking they noticed that the grill was slightly bent and would not fit properly,they phoned through to Chesney who agreed to replace it and the replacement arrived 3 days later.

Outdoor heater

The new patio heater is beautifully made and was installed exactly as described.

My only niggle is that there are some limitations to its use which were not described at the time of sale.

We were advised not to put it us against the house, and not to use it directly under a parasol.

These limitations may have made us think about an alternative.

Beautiful product and fuss free service

I got my outdoor heater BBQ about 4 weeks ago and it has been a treat though there was a niggle that I wanted sorting out. To be honest it couldn’t have been more efficiently dealt with - beautiful machine and a really no nonsense approach to customer service

Love the Garden Gourmet...

Love the Garden Gourmet for both cooking and heating - functions flawlessly. Delivery guys were great (we went for the white glove delivery to make it easier - it is *very* heavy!). Our thermometer has started playing up - suspect the probe wire is the problem - going to enquire about it. Otherwise 5*

Purchased a Garden Party outdoor BBQ…

Purchased a Garden Party outdoor BBQ and stove.

Delivered with damage to the flue and no safety gloves. Replacement flue sent out very quickly. The rotating grill does not work as the grill does not lock into place. Replacement grill sent but also does not lock into place. Still waiting for replacement grill after nearly 4 weeks and still cant properly use BBQ.
Staff are fantastic.....really good.....wish I could say the same for the product.

I know about the grill size issue and it has probably happened similarly twice in the last five years (arrived that was from the factory, so an invisible to use at the QC stage), nevertheless we are urgently trying to get some grills sourced for you and will sort this as quickly as we possibly can.
