common employees are great.

I have been living in common building about more than 6 months. During this time common employees have been always available to assist , and help. They are very polite, smart, and well educated regarding solve any issues in building. Also, they keeps developing Rules which make commons building safe, and comfortable place to live. If you are a person who does not make drama and wants to live in Normal and well behave suite ,I suggest common.

5 months later, no response and no refund

If you decide to rent with common after reading all the bad reviews then that really is on you. Do not and I repeat do NOT allow desperation to keep you in a bad lease, stuck with bad management, and $1000s of dollars siphoned out of your pocket.

I paid an application fee back in April with common. But after they “made a mistake” by telling me a lower rent amount during the tour then attempting to discreetly write in a higher amount in the lease agreement afterwards, I was promised my application fee would be returned. It has now been 5 months with nothing but empty promises, putting me on hold for hours on end, and hanging up on me!

I have threatened to sue and I was hung up on immediately. They have filed fake support tickets and sent useless emails. The man behind it all (the agent who made the mistake) has blocked my number. I will report this company to the police if it comes to that. They are probably betting that I won’t dispute the charge or will get tired of reaching out to retrieve my money. I can only thank God I didn’t pay thousands in rent before the crap hit the fan.

YOURE BETTER OFF WITH AIR BNB. Do not even dare take a chance with this company because you will not be the lucky one.

Dishwasher Woes

My dishwasher leaks every time I attempt to use it. I put in a request for it to be fixed and didn’t hear back for weeks about it. I was then told that it had already been serviced, but when I went to use it it still leaked.

Never though dealing with a leasing office/management would make me more excited to live somewhere

Zack Sultan has gone above and beyond to answer all of my questions and assist when I messed up the onboarding process. Dealing with the Common leasing office has been nothing but pleasant and full of patience. I can’t wait to move in and not have to pack on the typical stress of a landlord or lackluster management.

Utterly unsanitary and beyond unprofessional

This property has 481 units and charges $15.00 a month for trash maintenance. In a year, each occupied unit pays $180 for trash, plus a $5.00 convenient fee. The Wayland property earns approximately $115,440 a year in trash fee charges. Each occupied unit also pays $2.00 a month for pest treatment. Pest treatment services is ONLY provided upon request by submitting a 'Maintenance Request' via Common Living website. The Wayland property earns approximately $11, 544 a year on pest control fees charges. After calculations, that is a whopping $126,984 a year on trash and pest treatment fees ALONE.

The Wayland is ran by Common Living who took over in early 2021, and have many onsight maintenance staff living in the property at a discounted rent price so they can oversee these simple maintenance necessities with Covid and all. However, they dont and produce the bare minimal.

Attached are picture evidence of daily and weekly basis negligence from the maintenance department (images uploaded on Google review). Utterly unsanitary and beyond unprofessional.

As a resident since 2019, this will be the first company to cause a huge decline on my quality of life here at The Wayland. Ofcourse, let's not forget the $500 increase on my rent plus $100 of utility increase for this year.

For any potential intrestes in wanting to lease with Common Living. If the simple things are not met, like cleanliness. Imagine the bigger picture. It will probably cost you more than whatever illusion a leasing agent may try to sell or glamor you.

Operator was helpful, but...

The Operator was helpful in resolving the issue of my house access being rescinded before my lease was up.
That being said, I am VERY displeased with Common that this happened in the first place! The company should be well aware of when their residents' leases end, and should coordinate their house access with that.

A warning for wishful thinkers considering Common

If you’re weighing the pros and cons of leasing from Common, I have a warning for you: Ignore their snazzy ads and trust every doubt you have about them. It’s a cartoonishly incompetent organization that constantly seems like it’s about to have a WeWork-style implosion.

Are you worried they’ll place you in an apartment with somebody dangerous? It’s possible. If they do, they’ll likely make it impossible for you to move to a different apartment or get out of your lease without paying 3 months rent.

Are you worried about building safety? You should be. Many Common buildings use electronic locks with codes that aren’t changed when residents move in and out. That basically means any former resident or person who received the code can freely enter your apartment.

Are you worried Common will lease you a room that’s unavailable or already has somebody living in it? I witnessed this happen in my building by meeting a woman on my doorstep who was in distress because she couldn’t move into her room on the day her lease started. She and her belongings spent hours in my living room trying to speak to a Common representative in order to find out why she couldn’t move in. After countless attempts to reach them by phone and email, she learned that the room she was set to start leasing already had somebody living in it.

Are you worried your apartment won’t look like what they show you on a virtual tour? Once again, enitrely possible. Count on many of the things you can’t see on a virtual tour to be broken. The HVAC and intercom systems in my building were broken for months and Common totally dragged their feet in fixing it.

Are you worried Common will ignore your repair requests? This is a feature – not a glitch – of Common’s Member Support team. Instead of addressing your requests in good faith, their member support agents will put you through an endless loop of “syncing up,” “reaching out” and “touching base” that ultimately leads to nothing. Common’s Member Support team is purposely designed to be inaccessible. They have no direct phone number or email besides members@common. com. They also routinely close out tickets that haven’t been resolved.

Are you worried Common will make errors with billing? I personally experienced this and you should be wary. You’ll likely also need to fight to get any money back even if they make consecutive errors. Don’t use auto-pay for your rent, they regularly pull sleazy moves like withdrawing more than you owe and then promise to apply it to a future months’ rent.

Are you worried they’ll fall short on delivering the many amenities they promise? Count on it. During my lease, they closed amenity rooms and missed supply deliveries.

And lastly, are you worried they’ll abruptly terminate your lease and make you find a new home on a timeline that doesn’t suit you at all? That probably didn’t cross your mind, but it should because Common abruptly terminated leases for about 50 residents of my former building (they’re also so incompetent that they also accidentally sent me a renewal offer in the middle of trying to kick me to the curb). Just in case there are any building owners reading this, Havemeyer isn't the first building Common has lost and it seems like they'll probably lose more if they continue being incompetent property managers.

Of course, that’s just my personal experience with Common, but be assured that it’s systemic across the company. Before signing a lease, look up the Daily Beast story that captures the many (but not all) ways Common fails its residents.

I also understand that this review is competing alongside many reviews that paint the opposite picture of Common. I hope those residents had a better experience than I did, but understand that those reviews are likely the result of Common pestering residents to post positive reviews for after they do the bare minimum.

By the way, if there’s a member support staffer reading this review, I’m not interested in you responding with an insincere apology. I know you've read this review, so take some ownership for your sleaziness before you make this company implode.
