Destroyed my mental health

Not only was Common literally the worst property management I have ever worked with, they kicked myself and my suitemates out of our home with 16 days notice because they 'lost the lease with the building owner'. I moved out 42 days ago and have yet to receive the concession they offered me (about $1200, less than half of the expenses I accrued because of them) but now, I have no savings account or safety net to fall back on because they still haven't gotten me the money.

Unsafe living conditions and horrible customer service

I lived at a common property and was placed with addicts. After informing Common that living conditions were unsafe and people were breaking into my apt., Common did absolutely nothing. I’m addition common is extremely slow at responding to requests for repairs and will ignore messages for days weeks months. They are horrible at customer service and will not allow for any phone calls. Only support tickets. System is extremely faulty. Wifi outages are very common, cleaning days and restocking supplies is commonly missed. If you value your safety I wouldn’t live at any Common property. There is very little done on Commons end to ensure the safety of people in their units.

just no

CONS

There is no screening done on the individuals that come into the homes. There were precautions at one point, but no longer. I moved to Common Melrose for a community as a new comer to LA. This was a massive damper on such an amazing city and a huge part of my experience.

If you are in danger or feeling uncomfortable (which you most likely will be) in your home at Common Melrose you are just trapped in a bad situation with no help or assistance from management.

Over the past 6 months I have lived with a rapist. He sexually assaulted someone in my home, and after 3 months of in depth emails warning Common about the dangers of this person nothing was ever done. He wasn't even a tenant and they still couldn't keep him off of our property.

In addition to that terrible experience, another terrible and abusive person moved in. One quick google search reveals our new suite mate has a criminal record. He was even transferred into our home after lease and conduct violations at his previous Common residence. Not only does he verbally assault everyone in the house.. he's extremely violent. In addition to being violent this individual has stalker like tendencies. Stay away from suite 2. 6 months into abuse of multiple individuals this tenants is still in the home without a current lease.

Common will feed you false information until you're forced to leave and then replace you with the next tenant that's desperate enough to stay and deal with their lack of intelligence and care.

Unfortunately Common has failed to enforce the rules and lease agreements of the house. If you move into Common cross your fingers that you get lucky with your suite mates, or you will be stuck with dangerous people creating an extremely uncomfortable living environment. If you don't care about your safety.. Common Melrose is for you.

Pretty on the outside and quite different on the inside.
After all of these reported issues, the only suggestion or guidance from
Common was for me to leave and find another place to live. Under old and new management this company has failed its tenants at Common Melrose.

Since the company doesn't enforce the contracts that everyone signs be prepared for a pretty neglected apartment.

My husband and I both scheduled an appt…

My husband and I both scheduled an appt to see apartments for my sim who is returning to the country. His was Wednesday at 10:30 and mine was Thursday at 1:30. He called the day of the j yet ire to tell me it never happened. They never called and he never received an Invite for the virtual tour. On my day I also never received the proper communication for my tour. I called the number +1 (888) 956-9021 where I was hung up on at least 5 times. Yes. Hung up on when I called to find out what happened. I was told by each customer service/or sales rep that I needed to speak to Sabrina because my appt had not been confirmed. How can this be I asked, when I received multiple emails and a text about confirming and always followed the link, pressed the confirm button, and received the confirmation message. I also received a canceled appt text and email while on the phone with my first rep. Anytime I challenged them with a question that makes sense regarding customer service, they hung up.
FINALLY, I spoke to someone with compassion who told me my appt had been confirmed, yet he did not know why I hadn’t received the google meet. He stayed on with while attempting to send the text and email of my google meeting, which unsurprisingly I never received.
After reading all the disappointing treatment of other customers, I now know that Common Living is not legit. Yes they do rent apartments. But when you are not treated with respect, why should they continue to get your money. They will never get a dime from me, my family, or my friends. Hopefully they won’t get your money either.
****UPDATE***
As a result of the message I received from Common as feedback from my review, I have followed up with the email they included. I have very little faith that they will respond, but decided to follow through to continue giving those looking into this company the real deal. We shall see how long it takes for them to respond, if they are able to actually follow through with any schedule appts, and if they actually follow through with any protocol for any apartments available. I will keep you posted.
******Final Update******
Just to finalize my review of the Common brand, I followed through with the link that was provided to me in their response to my first review. AS EXPECTED, no one responded. This company is a complete waste of your time. Find another company to rent from. Please do not support this kind of treatment. If you do, they will only continue.

DO NOT TRUST COMMON

After an exhausting apartment search, I leased a dwelling from Common for my son who has been living in Brooklyn, There was some confusion about the lease: my wife is an attorney and she had not seen what is apparently a kind of group lease with misleading termination dates. The "rental agent" was a young person who could not explain it, either. Apparently these young agents report to a real licensed agent in the home office with whom we never got to communicate. My son moved in and was happy with the accommodations. Three weeks later Common informed him and his roommates they would have to move within a few weeks. Common had sold the building. They offered them other properties, some in a similar price range, some higher, but obviously not in the same location. I am still trying to figure out how to get our security deposit back. The phone number for Common is voicemail, "visit our website", etc. In my experience they have effectively insulated themselves from direct communication from the public. Our experience with two previous landlords was quite positive. They had a real receptionist answering the phone. They provided email addresses and responded promptly. They refunded security deposits within the time frame required by New York law. The property was fine but I would never trust Common or their business model again.

Good, not great

Overall, the common living experience has been good, but not amazing. There were some issues when I moved in, and they took some time to resolve, but have finally been resolved. Had a roommate who has extremely rude, but that’s the luck of draw with these shared living spaces. The saving grace is one of the customer support staff, Blake, who responded quickly to my concerns and followed up after each fix.

Super Helpful

Zach was very very good and helped us along the onboarding and introductary processes very efficiently. He was very dependable, was also there to answer a lot of our extra questions and help get us in on moving day when Common's Latch system changes had dropped the ball on things. He was very very helpful and I would recommend him servicing new tenants continuously. He was very representative of the common name as well as inclusive to my partner Alex and I as members of the LGBT community, we felt very respected.

Move In Review

Never have I had such help & response customer service from any company as I did from Zack Sultan. He was the wonderful light that made me choose Common. There were a few frustrating elements involved in my move in. My room was not ready for me when I arrived & I still don't have a bathroom mirror, but Zack responded right away to help me out. He has really gone out of his way for me & it has made all the difference.
