Awful paint,

Awful paint,
Ivory cream, walls and ceiling,
Extremely patchy, separates on the wall, 3 coats and still looks very patchy, the paint just don't want to stick to the wall,
I'm no professional, but have been painting my homes for 30 years, never experienced paint like this!
We used farrow and ball in our lounge last week, yes more expensive but results are amazing,
Won't be buying crown again and most likely going to skip this paint and buy f&b.🤬

Bought a tin of Crown Satin Quick Dry…

Bought a tin of Crown Satin Quick Dry to do the skirting boards. Despite stirring it thoroughly four times, it remains runny and leaves a patchy drippy finish. Total waste of money and will now have to sand the skirting boards again and buy a better product.
Update: The shop where I bought it were very helpful and happy to refund and Crown Paints were quick to respond to my query and were very helpful.

Disgraceful customer service

I am absolutely disgusted at the customer service I have received from this company. I feel completely ignored and unimportant to them. This issue started back in July when I wanted to order a specific wallpapering table from in store. The manager could see the item on her computer system but was unable to put the order through. I tried to get in touch with Crown via one of their websites but the message wouldn’t send, so I sent a screenshot through their Facebook page. 3 weeks later they finally replied and said that the support team would be in touch asap. On 22nd of Aug I messaged again to say no one had got in touch. I have not had a response to date.

You might be thinking ‘why bother, just buy it from somewhere else’. Well that’s what I ended up doing but it was the principle of the matter. I am a professional painter and decorator and regularly visited the store for my supplies and felt that I at least deserved a response. So I decided to put a complaint in. I sent an email on 27th Aug to the store manager and asked her to forward my complaint to head office (which she later confirmed that she had) and again to date I have received no response whatsoever.

I then decided in October to send them a message through another of their websites and received a response back which showed that they hadn’t bothered to read what I’d written as they asked for information from the paint tin. I replied with a forwarded message of the one I sent to the store. Again no response to date.

I needed some materials a few days after that so I went into the Crown store and told the manager that I was really dissatisfied with the lack of response and would be taking my business elsewhere. Which I did.

I was recently browsing Trustpilot for something else and saw Crown on here, with an email address that I hadn’t tried. So I forwarded everything to them on 14th Nov and received a reply to say that someone would be in touch with me. Guess what? They haven’t.

I’d advise anyone thinking of using Crown to avoid them like the plague. I was only getting in touch with them originally because I wanted to SPEND money with them, not because I had a problem (in the beginning). I have spent £1,483 with them since the beginning of this calendar year and they don’t give a toss about me. Do yourself a favour and buy your paint elsewhere, as I now do.

UPDATE May 2025

So Crown replied to my review below asking me to email them - I did that within days of the response and you’ll never guess what….. THEY DIDN'T REPLY AGAIN!!! Absolutely disgusting. I am so glad I switched to Tikkurila, they have been fantastic over the last 6 months.

4 coats of crown paint and still patchy.

I bought hare colour paint from crown and I am having problems with patchiness when it dries. I have even used a different roller for a coat and hoped this would be the end but unfortunately not, as still patchy. I have had to buy a similar colour from dulux to solve this problem. I have used crown recently on another two rooms and it went on with no problems. I will not be using crown again as too expensive in both money and time when end result is not guaranteed.

with over 55 years experience in…

with over 55 years experience in decorating, i am sad to say my faith in crown paints has been totally lost. firstly white undercoat bought from tool station, found half the tin a solid lump in the bottom of the tin which took over 10 min of hard work to stir out then when used was still wet to the touch 24hrs later and still tacky 5 days later even with heat in the room! then next tin was white silk finish for a bathroom ceiling put on over the original white emulsion, which had been well cleaned and dry. the paint was well mixed but when applied was the worst cover i had ever used. white pva glue would have been better! on the coving it would run better than the English olimpic team and on the ceiling, after 10 min showed lots of drips starting. i would have taken them both back but my nearest supplier is 37 miles away! never again will i touch crown . absolute rubbish far worse than the worst shops own brands! keep clear!

Customer service as it should be

I had problems with sealing a wall that had been previously wallpapered. After applying PX3 and then emulsion I was left with shiny patches. I sought advice from Crown and they considered photos I provided and issued suggestions for me to follow. They dealt with my problem promptly, were very understanding and I have been very satisfied with their service. I haven't yet completed my project but feel reassured that help is at hand if I still have difficulties.

Waste of time and money

Renovating our home, have used crown in four bedrooms, hall, stairs and landing, and study, decorator finished a couple of weeks ago and it was a stunning finish. Unfortunately we have started to notice that even the slightest touch by hand is marking the paint considerably. I wiped a tiny mark from the wall with a damp cloth and it has left a horrible mark. I can see hand prints, ( not children) and marks everywhere, it’s outrageous. It sounds over the top but I think we’re going to have to redecorate again using an alternate paint, it looks really shabby. Absolutely gutted. All that time and effort wasted. Do not recommend this paint.

Brilliant white matt emulsion

Paint application completely useless, even after two coats it was still garing through although the previous colour was dried plaster by Craig & Rose so should easily cover with a white matt however crown brilliant white matt was so poor very little viscosity more like water. Lost a days work and money with this product gave up with the paint and purchased Dulux brilliant white matt. I can't understand why crown would sell a paint so poor I have been painting for over 50 yrs and should have known better.

Crown Paint Egg shell for wood and metal

Quite possibly the worst paint I have used. Its so watery and runny. After you paint it on it and made sure its all good - its so runny that is gets dribbles well after you put it on. Completely ruined my stairway posts - not quite sure what Im going to do to put it right. I will never choose crown again

Awful and useless paint (refund given by Crown)

Bought a 10L tub of brilliant white Crown paint from Homebase.
Absolutely useless. No coverage. I was trying to cover a very light grey and approaching the fourth coat I gave up and went and bought some Dulux.
Really thin and created a very patchy finish. I may have well have tried to paint with the water that I washed my brushes in. AVOID - False economy. It's a cheap price for a reason.

Since this review, Crown paints have refunded me for the paint. Their customer service team are very good.

10L brilliant white- avoid

Brought a 10L brilliant white as my tin of wilko paint had ran out mid job.
Absolutely awful paint, like water, infact it’s probably like the 50:50 mix you can use to prime newly plastered walls. Going back out to buy some thicker paint or I will be doing 4 coats. Haven’t the time or engery for that. Avoid.

Incredible service

I ordered Sadolin paint on line from a supplier and the shade was much lighter than previous purchases. I was informed that the paint I had previously was discontinued and the paint was now water based.
I spoke to Crown who said that my shade was no longer offered and could not understand how the supplier had mixed it. They then set about devising a formula for the correct shade and supplied 5L. Incredible service
