Car Insurance

Dealing with Dial Direct was OK but the extras and therefore the final price was not the same as on the Confused.com.
There were certain extras advertised on the Confused.com web search and then when I clicked through to Dial Direct, those items were charges as extras and increased the price.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your feedback, and we’re sorry for any confusion around the pricing.

Comparison sites such as Confused.com show a core price based on the details and level of cover provided by each insurer. The added extras you select during your search help tailor the quote, but the price shown initially is generally the core policy price, which may include any complimentary benefits depending on the provider.

When you click through to the insurer, any optional add-ons you choose are then applied, and the final price is updated accordingly to reflect your selections. This is so you can see a full breakdown of the cover and make an informed decision before purchasing.

We appreciate your comments and will continue working to make the pricing process as clear as possible.

Avoid dial direct car insurance at all…

Avoid dial direct car insurance at all costs, car got hit by a 3rd party who left a note and I had a whiteness! Dial direct are refusing to chase liability so I can get my car fixed. Spoke to enterprise who advised that dial direct will no longer chase the 3rd party for liability and the advisor laughed when I said I maybe should switch car insurance to alternative provider in future, says it all!
Hate to think how useless they would be if it was a serious accident!

Forced to pay £80 on top of monthly payment due to "admin error"

Was text about my policy "due" to be cancelled 4 days after it had been cancelled.

I updated my payment details from the previous month, but due to an admin error they did not update for the current month.
My policy was cancelled, and i only had a text today, 4 days after it had done so, and also now have to pay an £80 fee, as well as find a new policy last minute.

I will be avoiding Direct Dial at all costs, as well as their parent company BISL Ltd and would suggest anyone reading this to also do the same and their predatory tactics.

Hi Alex,

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating this situation must have been.

While you’ve mentioned receiving the text message after the cancellation had already taken place, we can confirm that several communications are issued prior to this stage, including emails and letters, to advise of any missed payments and the risk of cancellation. The final text message is sent as confirmation once the policy has already been cancelled.

We would be happy to look into this further and make sure that the correct procedure was followed if you send your policy details to us at socialresponders@bglgroup.co.uk

I had a competitive price initially and then the renewal doubled, I had a quote as a new customer and it was half the renewal price, apparently the cheap price is due new customers only and not loyal repeat customers. What a way to lose business.

Be Careful

I’d be very wary before using this company I used a comparison site Dial Directs quote was not the cheapest however it had motor legal expenses, a courtesy car etc included less than 3 days later I received an email telling me as I had a non fault claim from 4 years ago which I hadn’t included my policy would increase by £110 a month the underwriter for my policy had actually been the company I was insured with the previous year nothing had been left out please be careful

Illegally did credit search and renewal of policy, despite opting out

Car insurance was up for renewal.

As soon as the renewal reminder came i cancelled the automatic renewal simply so that nearer the time I could search for the best deal as my policy had gone up by over £200 despite having 28 years no claims.

I re insured either another company, then at 21.56 hours the night before my renewal would of taken place they send me an email informing me of my new policy start up despite having cancelled it.

I immediately went onto my account and cancelled the renewal again( noting that every time I navigated the web page they kept throwing a pop up trying to force me into agreeing my new financial agreement which I did not do.

It is clear as day they have informed me so late the day before of the illegal renewal that I had opted out of they were hoping I would not pick up on the email.

Anyway I wake up the following morning to find they had completed a hard credit search on my banking for the renewal repayments without my permission.

I am in the middle of remortgaging my house so need my credit rating to be the best it can possibly be.

Insurance companies behaviours these days are despicable, I detest their hard sales approach. Its now 06.25 on a Saturday morning so the company are closed I've got the stress of awaiting to call them Monday morning to remonstrate and demand they remove the credit searches which im guessing they won't do.

Disgusting illegal behaviour, avoid at all costs

Hi Benn,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback!

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how concerning this situation must feel, especially given your current circumstances.

When a policy is set up on instalments, a credit check may be carried out as part of the application process. However, we appreciate your comments regarding the timing of communications, your cancellation request, and the impact this has had. This is not the level of service we aim to provide, and we would like the opportunity to look into this in detail for you.

We take concerns about credit searches and policy renewals extremely seriously. If you haven’t already, please email your policy details over to us at socialresponders@bglgroup.co.uk so we can fully investigate what has happened and ensure everything has been handled correctly.

We’re sorry for the frustration and stress this has caused and appreciate you bringing it to our attention!

absolutely shocking customer service

absolutely shocking customer service, I have been trying to cancel my policy for the last 3 weeks and had no communication or replies to anything. I spent 42 minutes on hold to be cut off, I have sent 3 emails with no response. I have had plenty of generic emails stating YOU MUST CONTACT US IMMIDIATLEY REGARDING YOUR ACCOUNT. Policy 138932678 - CANCEL MY POLICY !!! - I have all the evidence showing I've attempted contact for the last 23 days. I'm not wasting more time it seems the only way to get a response from this dreadful company is to leave a negative review.

Awful company avoid

Awful company, as a pensioner I was finding it increasingly more costly to run my car. I had paid up front for a year but after 6 months decided to cut our outgoings, cancel the insurance, and sell my car. They charged me for cancelling (why?), promised me a refund which still has not arrived. Avoid at all costs would never recommend

cheapest quote with more extras thrown in as standard !

With more features included as standard compared to rivals on the comparison websites and the so called cheapest ones , not on comparison sites . Dial Direct was considerably cheaper and also included a lower voluntary excess .
Value for money is so important given the taxation and ever rising cost of living and although the Dial Direct quote was over £ 50 more than last years insurer , it was still £100s cheaper than many so called special offer -time limited quotes .

Hiya Perminder,

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback!

Its excellent to hear that you found Dial Direct to offer strong value for money and that our cover features and lower voluntary excess made a positive difference for you. With the rising cost of living, we understand how important it is to find a balance between price and quality of cover, so it’s great to know our policy stood out compared to other options you explored.

We also appreciate your thoughtful comments around comparison sites and pricing—feedback like this really helps us understand what matters most to our customers.

Thank you again for choosing Dial Direct, and we look forward to being here for you in the future!

Just Don’t!

We took out a car policy to start on 25 March. We spoke to Dial Direct on 24 March to confirm this. They sent us policy documents and then four emails thanking us for insuring with them. We were horrified yesterday to receive an email and a text informing us that they had cancelled the policy due to non payment. So they waited for fifteen days to tell us that they were unable to obtain the payment. After four phone calls to them, two of which were cut off, and another two indepth emails from us we are still getting demands for £60 cancellation fee of a policy that we were unaware had an issue. We keep trying to get some proper answers and the call centres are worse than useless. Never ever use them if you want to keep your sanity. The stress of this has made me extremely unwell.
Update. I have just been called by a Dial Direct rep. She told me her name and said she was phoning about my review on Trustpilot. Then, surprise surprise, I was cut off AGAIN. If they are trying to make my stress levels worse, they are doing well. I tried to phone back and this did not work. I’m at my wits end now.

Dial direct have now sorted out the problem. Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow as I still don’t feel good. Maybe when my blood pressure drops down again. Fingers crossed.

Uncompetitive renewal quote

DD charges more to exhisting customers than new ones. The renewal quote was not competitive given that the car is one year older and depreciated in value. I got a cheaper quote for Dial Direct on a comparison site albeit with the excess hiked up. I received an email re confirmation the previous policy would not be revewed as requested by me but all the emails re the new policy had gone to the outlook junk folder. I went to my account to check that the new policy had come into effect as I had not seen any email confirmation. Later it occurred to me to check the junk folder! Why are the emails from a well known Insurance company treated as junk mail by microsoft?

Reply from Dialdirect

Hello Jim,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience – we really appreciate your detailed feedback.

We’re sorry to hear that your renewal quote didn’t feel competitive. We understand how frustrating that can be, especially when you’d expect your premium to reflect your vehicle’s depreciation. Pricing can vary based on a number of factors, including changes in risk profiles and market conditions, but we completely appreciate how this may not have come across clearly.

It’s good to hear you were able to find an alternative quote that worked better for you, although we’re sorry we couldn’t match your expectations this time around.

Email providers like Outlook can sometimes send automated messages to junk folders, which is unfortunately outside our control, but we’re always working to improve this.

Your feedback is really valuable and will be shared with the relevant teams as we continue to improve both our pricing transparency and communication.

If there’s anything you’d like us to look into further, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’re always here to help!

Thanks Laura

Direct Dial phoned me and solved the problems. I spoke to a very helpful and knowledgeable lady, who sorted everything out for me.

Customer service is appalling. I've spent 2 hours on the phone and been cut off twice by 2 different 'advisors.' I tried to make changes on the website as the information they hold for me re my car insurance is incorrect. The links don't work. The wrong information is still there.

Hi Aled,

That sounds really frustrating especially when you reported it straight away and got it booked in early.

Waiting 4 weeks, taking time off work, and then having it cancelled on the day is just not on. And no weekends or mobile fitting makes it even harder for people to actually get it sorted.

Please send your policy details to us socialresponders@bglgroup.co.uk, as we would really like to look into this further for you.
Your case will be dealt with by BISL Limited, who arrange and administer your car insurance policy on behalf of RAC.
