Thursday 6th June 2024 – Order placed because they have 100’s in stock!!

AVOID this company like a bad head cold, ‘Hassle FREE Delivery’ & ‘Exceptional customer service’ this company needs to check the dictionary as to the meaning of these amazing words of wisdom.

They claim to offer a worldwide ‘Hassle FREE Delivery’, total rubbish, lets blame DPD.

Delivery to Ireland is simple, AMAZON do it all the time, but not SPOTLIGHTS DIRECT, they have an excuse for everything, stock in the wrong place, DPD never collected, DPD app failed, DPD label printer faulty, and finally if everything else fails blame good old BREXIT, guys its now over FOUR years since the UK left the EU, wake up and get your act together, Pals!!

“Hi,We are just awaiting a stock transfer on the bezels before the order ships, they are held at our Warrington depot however they don't have the facilities to ship to Ireland therefore this will be dispatched and the tracking will be sent over on Monday.Kind regards, Oliver”

I would NEVER rely on this company sending me any products, ever again, and neither should you, nearly a week into my order and I still have no magic tracking number from DPD, or delivery date, absolutely nothing except grief, and lots of it.

I have wasted nearly an hour on the phone to them chasing up my order daily, they never inform you of why there is a delay, they do absolutely nothing, now that is not EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE, that’s totally appalling customer service, Pals.

“Hi, I've checked and the bezels landed from our other warehouse too late to leave yesterday I'm afraid. I've spoken to the warehouse and these will leave today.Thanks, Matt”

After nearly a week of waiting for the order of 26 downlighters to be sent to Southern Ireland, this is there reason, their standard, non apologetic, just blame everyone but them.

“Hi, I've had a look and unfortunately sometimes we have issues with auto despatches on DPD with exports, whereby the label will not correctly come off. It seems this has happened with this order and we have DPD looking into this. This was one of the major issues surrounding brexit. I've spoken to them and this should be resolved today.I know this order has been slightly delayed and I can only apologise about this. If you do need any further orders from ourselves, please come direct to me and I can see what I can in the way of a goodwill discount. Kind regards, Matt Smith”

I have emailed them FOUR times today asking for the tracking number, but never a reason, EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE and HASSLE FREE!!!!, appalling....

Thanks for your review, we do appreciate all feedback whether positive or negative, as it helps us grow as a company.

As explained to you on the phone and by email, unfortunately export orders can be delayed slightly due to the booking system on DPD failing at this end. We have taken off delivery times from the website for all export orders for this reason, as we are aware they can be delayed for a day or two.

We explained these were coming in from another warehouse which didn't have the facilities to export and they were due into us on Monday. We waited for these to land on Monday, however as we said by email, they landed after our courier had left. The DPD label then failed on the Tuesday which meant this then ran into Wednesday for the shipment to leave us.

We explained this would be the case to yourself on the phone and by email and told you a rough time you'd receive the tracking. This was emailed to you by DPD themselves early on Wednesday as we promised. I've looked and of the 4 emails you sent, one was late morning and then a further 3 within a minute of each other asking for the tracking that DPD had already emailed to you.

We have done everything we could with this order, and I appreciate the 2 day delay may have been an inconvenience, however we don't list a timescale for export deliveries due to the issues having arisen on past export orders.

We always let you know of any delays and even let you know when you would receive the tracking, which was on the day we said it would be.

I also refunded 10% of your order as a goodwill gesture and we have always got back to you in a timely manner.

The best advisor of down light store in UK

I've been struggling to find a down light bulb in my bathroom for the last 4 months, as it's been discontinued. I asked everyone in my flat and experts in shops but it was very hard to find a similar model.
After searching for a long time, I found a Down light Direct website and asked an advisor. Matthew Smith patiently checked all the model numbers and ceiling size for a long time and he found the right model for me!!
He is a real expert, very kind and patient. He said he has been working in the field for a long time. Very lucky to meet him today. If you find a down light bulb. I 200% recommend the Downlights Direct. I guess Matthew and Downlights Direct are the best down light advisor/Shop in the UK. All the residents of my flat will be very grateful for his help! Thank you so much!

Excellent after sales service

Whats the point of a chat window if…

Whats the point of a chat window if there's nobody to respond.
Very frustrating.
Staring at a chat screen is probably worse than listening to hold music.

AVOID Customer Service Non Existent.

I've had a look into this and can see one of my colleagues took the chat at the same time he took a call. Unfortunately this call required him to go into the warehouse to grab a product which led to this delay.

I've checked and can see there was a 7 minute delay from you opening the chat to the response. I appreciate this isn't as instant as you would have liked, however I've been on some with up to a 15 minute advertised waiting time or even more. We did try to respond as soon as we possibly could.

I personally think leaving a bad review to damage a companies reputation after this is unfair and you are someone we have never dealt with in the past.

Responsive and efficient

I had an item delivered that was faulty. I emailed Downlights Direct (rare in itself, so many companies make it difficult for you to communicate with them) and got a swift reply - within three days a replacement arrived. Great efficiency and responsiveness, most impressed.

I first ordered from Downlights Direct…

I first ordered from Downlights Direct about three years ago and they provided excellent service at a good price. I recently had a problem with a faulty light and it was dealt with in a friendly and efficient manner (thanks Harrison!) and was resolved with no cost to me.

I would happily recommend them and will certainly use them again myself.

Bad service and poor refund polciy

Ordered some kitchen downlighters and was later advised by our electrician that not needed. I asked Downlights Direct for a refund of £48.12 and initially was told no refund as they have a 30 days return policy. It had been around 2 months since I ordered the lights which were unopened and still in the boxes. After my email they ageed to refund me minus their handling fee of £12.32. I queried this as I had to pay for post but they refused to review this high cost for simply receiving back their stock at no cost to them.

I've had a look into this and it was myself you spoke to on this issue.

Firstly we never declined the return, we accepted it straight away with a small handling charge due to the length of time you had the goods and the implications on warranty periods. This was 15% of the total value, which is much less than it would have cost us to send any goods back to our suppliers. We accepted your request as a gesture of goodwill.

As for the postage label, as these were unwanted goods then the return cost would be down to yourself.

A lot of companies wouldn't have even entertained the idea of items coming back outside of the returns period, however we are willing to accept these back even though the order was over 2 months old.

The £12.32 knocked off your refund also included the initial postage you paid to receive these goods, which we had to pay with DPD and wouldn't refund for unwanted items.

LED strip light project for kitchen

Had numerous e-mail exchanges with the support desk (Edward Partington) regarding a LED lighting project. They checked the tape, transformer, controller, remote control etc were all compatible, drew up a pro-forma invoice for all the parts, and even did the soldering for a small fee. All now up and running and looks great.

No communication about items not in…

No communication about items not in stock for two weeks. Called them and was told I have to wait another 3 weeks for my order said I would like to cancel order they send out part of it just to stop me from canceling
Can't finish the job now for three weeks avoid ordering from then web page said over hundred in stock at the time of order

I've had a look and the items should have been showing out of stock at the time of ordering. We have a stock link with the other warehouse who were out of stock at the time.

From there you should have had a further email informing you of the back order, and then a further email once we found out the date.

Can you confirm who you cancelled this with as I can't see this as having been cancelled? Was this done over the phone?

Fabulous customer service

Back in February 2023, I purchased a number of downlights and at that time, I was impressed by the website, competitive pricing and speed of delivery.

Unfortunately one of those downlights has recently become faulty and I had cause to contact Downlights Direct, requesting their assistance.

Despite sending an email late afternoon, I received a positive response from Matt that evening, providing details of a no cost replacement that had been scheduled for dispatch immediately.

It is heartwarming to find a company that bucks the trend, and actually strives to provide a positive customer experience, and, not just at point of sale.

Needless to say, if I require anything in the future, I know which company I'll be using. Thank you Matt and well done Downlights Direct.

Receiving items no issue however if you may need to return go to another company

Received order no problem, unfortunately the Downlights were not what we wanted so returned them. The company received the return on the 14th September and we still have not received a refund despite chasing twice. The first time we chased they had lost the return so had to locate it, the second time we chased we were told it was processed on 5th October still no refund received, had to open a dispute claim with credit card company to move forward with it.

Service, simplicity, and super kit!

Installing LED strip lights isn't always straightforward, but this company and web site makes it a stroll in the park, with excellent back-up on the phone.
Whilst I can't currently vouch for the reliability of the products (it's too early) the guarantee is much better than other suppliers, the quality excellent, and only surpassed by the customer service provided by Oliver.
If you're considering the plug and play Philips Hue style, think again, and give these guys a look. More flexibility, more bespoke systems available, decent prices and straightforward to make your own bespoke system. Thank you.

Waited a week for 6 bulbs

Waited a week for 6 bulbs. Packaging was very poor and when I opened them they where the wrong ones. We then went all around the houses with they wanted photos of them and no end of hoops to jump through, only to be told we had to pay for another lot and then get a refund for the incorrect ones when they arrive back. Have now asked to speak to a manager, let’s see if they phone back.

Brilliant customer Service

A company should be judged by by how well it resolves problems. I had an issue with a downlight finisher. Phoned downlights direct who sent a replacement within a couple of days, just simple straightforward great customer service. Just a shame more companies aren't this good.

Just purchased again from this Company…

Just purchased again from this Company and it was a superb purchase. Our house is now first floor refurbished and we start on the next floor down, we use this Company because the Customer Care is excellent and the advice they give you so helpful, the products are fair priced and quality and my order was so well packaged with recycling well thought about. I would not shop anywhere else for lighting.
