I very much agree with an earlier review about criticising EC for plugging smart meters. Apart from huge profit for these companies, I don't believe they are needed. Also, even more importantly, research has shown many people exposed to them get ill. I personally know several people who have become seriously ill if they live near phone masts or strong wifi. Smart meters are the worse. No, not their imagination. One woman had no idea why she was so ill until she moved away.

The mag is excellent, the info is not found easily elsewhere, and I'm very interestyed in business ethics.
I am very surprised and disappointed however that you should plug Smart Meters! The Electricity supply companies onkly want these things in customers' homes, so the they can charge their customers Premium Prices at busy times - like when we cook our Xmas and other celebratory meals! Why advocate for big company greed and slefishness? It is not your usual stockintrade!!

Does what it says on the can - even the small print....I've been an avid reader of the EC since it started. I do not have a personal or professional relationship with the company. What I have ia an enduring respect for the sheer amount of hard graft researchers must put in - and I say that as a former journalist (again NOT linked in any way shape or form). The detail is astonishing. The ability to not just react but second guess what we should be concerning ourselves with, ethically, on the consumer front is astonishing. The EC was way ahead of its time when it started. Now it's leading the way for a far more receptive market. It's a beacon for those of us who see far too much of the moral bankruptcy of companies and fat cat bosses.

The magazine or website are my go to source of info before I make any new purchase. Info you can trust from an organisation that cares about big issues affecting people and habitats around the world.

Becoming a supporter, and for a while a volunteer remote researcher, has been life changing. As always with a massive shift in awareness, there is some pain along the way. I still have to pace myself, otherwise the extent of some companies' abhorrent behaviour in pursuit of profit is overwhelming and disheartening. However, identifying businesses which are aligned with my values is empowering. It's hard to know if your spending choices are helping the world be a better place or making things worse. I find Ethical Consumer magazine to be a great help to understand the hidden problems with everyday products. It helps me learn how companies really behave, rather than believing the guff they tell you in adverts.
