Poor And Deceptive

REPLY TO HOMESWAPER BELOW THIS REVIEW.

So they set up a recuring subscription on PayPal which I KNOW I DID not agree to, and it was NOT mentioned at any point when I initially signed up, and they have now just taken another 6 months payment from me.

The last few times I had used them they notified me that my time was coming to an end and that I needed to pay again to continue to use the service, this DID NOT happen this time.

I have now raise a claim with PayPal about this.
This is not acceptable and is very underhand and deceptive.

I had been my intention to close my account down as the service is just a load of rubbish, just read other reviews and you will see.

I am not a happy Chappy!

14/11/25 @16:32 -Reply to Homeswapper

Like I said poor and deceptive practices, at NO point was it made clear I was signing up for a subscription.

The two times prior there was no subscription, just you emailing me telling me if I wanted to continue to use the service I had to pay again.

The only notification I got this time was from Paypal telling me you had taken another 6 months worth of money!

I have already complained to Paypal and asked for a full refund, they informed me they had let you know of this.

The service you provide is not fit for purpose and is just a money grabbing exercise, and this latest issue is just another indication of that.

The only way you can resolve this is to answer to the Paypal case and refund me in full.

Use Homeswapper at your peril people

Hi, we’re sorry to hear you’ve had some issues with your membership. PayPal and HomeSwapper try and make it as clear as possible that you are creating a “subscription” which will renew unless cancelled. If you have any queries about this please contact our Customer Support team or PayPal directly.

Very poor customer services and…

Very poor customer services and matching system. Plus don’t activate my account - even though I have been told by my Landlord that I have a secure tenancy, with a letter to prove this. They just keep asking for money to open my account. As a vulnerable person, that is desperate to exchange, I find this very disingenuous. When you contact customer services - they don’t reply. I have had to make three different accounts, spending multiple hours trying to set them up. I’m disappointed and disgusted, and to think they have been recommended by my local council!

Hi, we’re sorry to hear your HomeSwapper experience has been less than perfect. Please note that it can take up to 5 working days for a response from our Customer Support team during busier periods.

With regards having to pay for your membership, if your landlord is a HomeSwapper partner then it is them who would approve your account. This would not be HomeSwapper’s decision.

If i want a 3 bed in CR2...the matches don't reflect what the other person needs...so pointless!
Someone please improve this!

Hi Chayya, thank you for your feedback. Matching homes are given a “percentage match” so you can see how well they meet your requirements and the other tenants. This is because often both parties may still like each other’s homes even though they are not a perfect match. However, if you only want to see 100% matches there is a filter for this on the search/matches pages too.

STILL RUBBISH PLATFORM, AND I CAN NOT DELETE MESSAGES .

I THINK IT WILL NEVER IMPROVE. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DELETE A MESSAGE FOR 3 MONTHS WITH NO LUCK, AND I'M STILL GETTING @LEAST 60% WITHOUT PHOTOS, AND HOMES THAT I HAVE ALREADY DON'T LIKE, EVERY DAY . . .

Hi Luciano, we’re sorry to hear you’ve been having some issues using HomeSwapper. Please contact our Customer Support team who will be happy to help.

With regards home photos, we do strongly encourage swappers to add them and they are regularly prompted to do so. However, if you would prefer just to see homes with photos you can select that filter while viewing your matches or searching.

The homeswapper site itself is great

The homeswapper site itself is great, there are a few flaws to do with distance as they measure by ' how the crow fly's' rather than what a map would tell you via roads .
The biggest and really only problem is its users, most of them don't bother to reply, or even log in for months, and yet put 'serious about swapping' and even if you have exactly what they want they will still say, its not what they are looking for!
I personally think they ought to get rid of the 'win a shopping voucher' prize draw as this may be an incentive for these types of people to be on there... and to be honest I think the competition is fake, ive been on there for around 8 years ( swapped a couple of times) yet never won it, and theres not that many users on there.
Having a decent app would be good, I never like the last one as it wasn't user friendly, and now its obsolete anyway.

Have received an email from homeswapper…

Have received an email from homeswapper to say an issue was refunded to my credit card on 26th August…a lie & I have my cc statement to back me up
They tell me to contact them on their customer service (no number of course & no email given) if I haven’t received it.
Why should it be me that has to do the continual running around when it was Homeswapper who took the payment without my agreement???

Awful

Awful! Matches aren’t relevant a lot of the time and a lot of time wasters. Keep getting people msg with potential swaps. I immediately msg back that I’m interested then their profile disappears. This is within a few hours of them initiating contact with me.

Hi Nicola, we’re sorry to hear you’ve found the HomeSwapper experience frustrating at times. Please note that all matches use the criteria you have set. However, where they don’t quite match we show a percentage. If you’d prefer to see just exact matches you can use the “100% matches only” filter.

It does not work

It does not work. Waiting far to long. I asked council for hostel they didnt help. Health has deteriorated. People on here like 10yrs+. You match with people with specific 'wants' and not needs it is far too difficult. Even if you want to move far or anywhere the searches dont seem to be great.

Im sorry but if i move into an overpriced small dark place that should be against regulation youre not gonna feel better. One window in the living room in an attic conversion with no other light than artificial in the bedroom and kitchen and slopping walls with unsocial rent. You cant even stand. No wonder they have only lived in it for a few months before wanting a houseswap. I have flexible compromise but when a place is completely non liveable and not a good standard its not good for health. Sure smaller but it has to be liveable.

People that have the perfect home on here just window shopping and some with a picture of a vase/glass table (no other pictures) for a year and then when you asked to reply asap as your serious swapper so you can message others they think its rude and say they dont want to swap now! Then leave the site.

Accounts over 5 years should be deleted and have to start again as it gives people the idea that people can get these homes that are on there 10 years. If you cant find a compromise in 5 years its not working because the housing quality is poor.

Thank you for your review. Sometimes it can take a long time to find your perfect home but thousands of tenants swap using HomeSwapper every month.

With regards old accounts, we do archive them if they have not logged in for 6 months. They are also deleted if they do not log in for a further 12 months.

Outdated system that does not provide suitable matches

Apparently site newly updated, after customer feedback... I must have missed that survey!

Not much evidence to show the site uses chosen locations to generate 'matches' appears instead to rely on 'features'. I use the maximum locations available to search (9) within 20 miles, and can go weeks without receiving a single 'match'.

I did move through HS once, but that was locally, and perhaps that's where their system strength is, anywhere else is just pot luck.

I've read on here that some users appear to be paying for access to the site, why is that?

Reply from HomeSwapper

Hi, all matches must be within your selected locations. Matching ‘features’ then go towards the match percentage, but the home must still be in an area you have selected.
While most tenants can use HomeSwapper for free, some do have to pay a small fee if their landlord is not a HomeSwapper partner.

Homeswapper is nothing but a P.R. exercise for a global corporation

Homeswapper is nothing but a P.R. vehicle for a massive American software company called MRI which sells property software packages and multiple other services to corporations in the USA, UK, Ireland,South Africa, Middle East, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and India.

As such, it spends as little as possible on this site. Rather a surprising thing as software is their business globally.

I paid £24 for access to the site to make a swap and have multiple software issues with Multiswaps. I'm getting very little response from their first tier customer service who are nothing more than gatekeepers. You must ask them to accelerate it to a higher level of software engineering to get something technical resolved.

The site has no ability to return to a previous pages on select searches in the map format so one must do the whole search again. This shows scant interest in helping us, the site users, no matter what their first tier gatekeeper service agents reply to this on here.

Homeswapper is nothing but a hub to find your new home, don't mistake them as agents for you, that's not what this is.

I happen to lead a team at a high level on a Social Housing Think Tank and will be sharing my views on Homeswapper with Lord Best who pushed through the new Social Housing Act a couple of years ago, plus with others in the House of Lords and my friend who is Deputy Leader of Camden Council.

I think Government should replace Homeswapper with a Gov.UK site to do ths which would link into your National Insurance account, your HMRC account, the Police databases as well as criminal records held by legislature along with your Council Tax account to ensure a faster service of authentication and moving procedure too.

Government has a duty to make sure that Social Housing tenants can move in a flexible manner, Homeswapper does not.

Your thoughts to your Council, Housing Association and Lord Best at The House of Lords would help support this.

Misleading

You cannot see vital missing details about possible swaps prior to paying for full access. I now see that suitable properties for me are actually adapted meaning they couldn’t accept my property. I wouldn’t have paid if I had seeen this and feel it’s misleading. I am unlikely to be able to get a swap through your website.

Hi, HomeSwapper is free for most tenants but some do have to pay to use the service if their landlord is not a partner. Until you have full membership we cannot show you the full details of homes.

It is only a small number of homes that have adaptations for disabilities, the majority do not. To increase the number of matching homes please try expanding your search areas, etc.

Unfortunately this is the only option…

Unfortunately this is the only option for swapping.
Old outdated website that needs revamp. Adding photos needs a degree and doesn't always work. Like, dislike options could work better. Not sure what the wall is.
Had an issue where I was being sent messages and not getting notified immediately. Gave customer care feedback - what a mission. Absolutely refused to investigate further.
Errors when liking, disliking, requesting images.
Really needs some work done.

Also needs notification settings as I get messages about a change that I don't want, or matches I've already seen. And those emails work!!!!! But are useless.

Not user friendly at all

Difficult & old web site desperately in need of updating. People dont even bother to read your wall. But the worse part is Home Swapper constantly sending you emails to log in saying you have new swaps & all it is is that someone has ‘liked’ your home, they are the bigger time wasters !

Hi Tracy, we send emails when another swapper ‘likes’ your home because you can then check if you might be interested in theirs. It’s another way of increasing your options and chances of finding a swap. However, if you’d prefer not to receive these notifications, you can subscribe to only “essential” emails, either using the link at the bottom of the email or in your “My Account” section.
