Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 97 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found the user experience to be incredibly frustrating and stressful, often leading to anxiety and a feeling of being unmotivated. Customers frequently criticized the scoring system, describing it as harsh and unfair, where a single incorrect answer could drastically reduce their progress. This punitive approach, combined with vague or incorrect explanations, made learning difficult and discouraging for many users. However, a small portion of people found the app to be amazing for honing math skills and noted significant progress in learning.

waste of your money

It said this about this smart score. "IXL's SmartScore is a dynamic measure of progress towards mastery, rather than a percentage grade. It tracks your skill level as you tackle progressively more difficult questions. Consistently answer questions correctly to reach excellence (90), or conquer the Challenge Zone to achieve mastery (100)!" but for some reson if you get a question wrong it reduces your smart score by a lot and if you get one right it you get like 3 points added to your smart score and no matter how much time or questions done you have to get 100% to pass but its hard becuse if you get a question wrong your back at 30% so ixl's smartscore is not a dynamic measure of progress towards mastery it a punishment system where if you get something wrong your back at 24%

would recommend getting bone cancer more than this website

if you care at all about your students, DON'T assign them ixl, or at least only make them get to 70 or something. Ixl sucks, the scoring system is a dumpster fire. It takes 30 questions to get to 90, and you get two points per correct answer. If you get one wrong, it knocks you back down to 80 or something. The good reviews are mostly bots or teachers who've never done an ixl. If you want to assign an ixl to your students, please make sure to get a 100 in a bunch of random skills you just learned about to get a feel of what it's like

IXL IS THE WORST EVER

I HAD HIGH HOPES FOR IXL AS A LEARNING TOOL, BUT MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN NOTHING SHORT OF A DISASTER. FROM THE MOMENT I STARTED USING THIS PLATFORM, I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED A SERIES OF ISSUES THAT MAKE IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, THE USER INTERFACE IS CONFUSING AND CLUNKY. NAVIGATING THROUGH THE SITE IS AN UNNECESSARILY COMPLICATED PROCESS THAT REQUIRES MULTIPLE CLICKS TO GET TO BASIC LESSONS OR PRACTICE EXERCISES. THIS MAKES THE WHOLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE FRUSTRATING AND TIME-CONSUMING, ESPECIALLY FOR YOUNG STUDENTS WHO MAY HAVE LIMITED PATIENCE OR TECHNICAL SKILLS.

SECONDLY, THE CONTENT ITSELF IS OFTEN REPETITIVE AND UNENGAGING. MANY OF THE EXERCISES FEEL LIKE THEY ARE RATHER RANDOM AND LACK ANY REAL STRUCTURE OR COHESION. STUDENTS END UP SPENDING MORE TIME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO NAVIGATE THE PLATFORM THAN ACTUALLY LEARNING THE MATERIAL. THE QUESTIONS CAN BE EITHER TOO EASY OR UNFAIRLY HARD, AND THERE IS LITTLE IN-BETWEEN. THIS LEADS TO A LOT OF FRUSTRATION AND DISCOURAGEMENT.

THIRD, THE REWARDS AND INCENTIVES SYSTEM IS POORLY IMPLEMENTED. THE POINTS AND BADGES FEEL CHEAP AND UNMOTIVATING, AND THE SYSTEM SEEMS DESIGNED MORE TO PUSH STUDENTS TO CONTINUE USING THE PLATFORM RATHER THAN TO ACTUALLY HELP THEM LEARN. IT FEELS LIKE A PLEASANTLY DESIGNED TRAP TO KEEP STUDENTS ON THE SITE LONGER BUT WITH LITTLE ACTUAL EDUCATIONAL VALUE.

FOURTH, THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ARE SUBPAR. WHEN I ENCOUNTERED ISSUES OR HAD QUESTIONS, RESPONSES WERE SLOW OR UNHELPFUL. THIS ADDED TO MY FRUSTRATION AND MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS LEFT TO DEAL WITH PROBLEMS ALONE, WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A LEARNING PLATFORM THAT PROMISES TO HELP STUDENTS IMPROVE.

LASTLY, THE PRICE POINT IS UNJUSTIFIABLY HIGH FOR THE QUALITY OF SERVICE AND CONTENT PROVIDED. THERE ARE BETTER, MORE AFFORDABLE LEARNING RESOURCES AVAILABLE THAT ACTUALLY FOCUS ON STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS. IXL DOES NOT DELIVER ON ITS PROMISES AND, IN MY OPINION, IS A WASTE OF MONEY.

IN SUMMARY, MY EXPERIENCE WITH IXL HAS BEEN EXTREMELY NEGATIVE. THE PLATFORM IS CONFUSING, UNENGAGING, AND POORLY SUPPORTED. I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE PARENTS, EDUCATORS, AND STUDENTS TO LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR MORE EFFECTIVE AND USER-FRIENDLY LEARNING TOOLS. IXL DESERVES A ONE-STAR RATING AND MY STRONGEST RECOMMENDATION IS TO AVOID IT IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME, MONEY, AND STUDENT'S EDUCATION.

On my mama this website kirkified me

Mister Hubbledung. This site is the most mind melting brain diddling thing I've ever seen. It gives me questions such as " What is Charlie kirks left test + Lebronie Bron's right test?" When I'm flowkirkenuinely js tryna do my work yo. Then when I get a question wrong, the ixl CEO with a kirkified face comes and diddles me. 10/10 would recommend.

Its bad

I had to do some lessons and there were two versions of the lesson. "2 Step Equations" and 2 Step Equations (Word Problems)". I was doing the first one and there were word problems. It wasn't the word problems lesson. That's not the main reason why I don't like it though. The main reason is that the grading system is a bit harsh and its not motivating. Its very boring. iReady is better!

No matter who you are, NEVER get IXL

It doesn't matter if you are an educator looking for a software for your students, or someone trying to study at home. Never, and I mean NEVER use IXL. The program will punish you with a low gain, high loss "smart" score system that will leave you burned out, stressed and feeling doubtful of your learning abilities, all the while giving out vague explanations that are impossible to grasp. If you are using IXL, cancel your subscription as soon as you can, and remember that you are not stupid for taking a long time to understand what you are learning, it is IXL who is being incompetent

Poor scoring system and unclear questions.

The scoring system seem to disproportionally penalize for wrong answers. This can be discouraging as my child got to 99 and got the question wrong and it sent him back to 88. Also, some of the questions are unclear and confusing.

GOOD

I love the leader board thing and the lessons, me and the boys tie with 67 lessons. It also teaches me a lot with different math skills instead of needing to do one grade.
