Take my car there for its MOT, never had any problems at all. Have taken my car there this week, with a problem, unfortunately can’t be fixed with them as it is a job for an Auto Electrician. The guys there are great, and very helpful even when they are mad busy and the weather is hot 👍🏼
Avoid at all cost
I can confirm poor reviews of others. Avoid this Durham branch. Paid a lot of money for good quality tyres a few years back. Got the tyres installed and never thought twice about it until some time later got my car serviced somewhere else and told that all tyres where the wrong size i.e. too small for the wheels and already in the process of ripping from the inside. It never occured to me to actually check if they fitted the correct size as I assumed I was dealing with professionals, not crooks. My mistake. Can only warn others to avoid them as trusting them may cost you way more than money.

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received.
I took my car to this garage because I knew something wasn’t right and before i left asked for it to be checked. When I returned to collect it a couple of hours later, I was told there was nothing wrong with the car. To make matters worse, the member of staff handing me my keys made a joke about “the car with no problems. Instead of feeling reassured, I felt embarrassed and that my concerns were being dismissed rather than taken seriously.
Unfortunately, just a few hours later, the first time I drove the car after leaving the garage, an error warning appeared. This raises serious questions about how thoroughly my car was actually inspected. While I understand that not every fault can be diagnosed immediately, I would have expected a proper investigation rather than being told everything was fine.
The combination of dismissive customer service and what appears to have been an inadequate inspection has left me with very little confidence in this garage. I went there looking for professional advice and peace of mind, but instead I left feeling ignored and, shortly afterwards, found myself dealing with the very problem I had asked them to investigate.
I would not recommend this garage based on my experience.
Poor
I visited your Stourbridge garage on Friday around 5:40pm with a nail in my tyre. It was barely looked at and I was told “you’ll need a new tyre” and to come back the next day.
No proper inspection, no care, just dismissed.
I took the nail out myself afterwards and the tyre is absolutely fine.
This is the second poor experience I’ve had with you. The service is unacceptable and I won’t be returning.
Pure negligence at Grays branch – Left part off my car and ignoring me for over 3 weeks
I had my Honda Civic serviced at the National Tyres and Autocare Grays branch (London Road) on 28th January (Job no. 499/9014812). They removed my front engine undertray (splash shield) and forgot to refit it. I only noticed it was missing in June during a tyre change. Everything makes sense now: during my MOT test in March, the inspector flagged an advisory for an oil leak (DVSA code 8.4.1 - "oil leak but not expensive"). This area was always hidden before. It proves National Tyres left the protective tray off back in January, leaving my engine completely exposed.I emailed this branch on 8th June to ask politely if it was still in the workshop, but they are completely ignoring me for THREE WEEKS. I have also escalated this to Head Office and left a country-wide Trustpilot review on 22nd June. Absolutely ZERO response to anything. This issue needs to be resolved immediately. They need to either source and refit a replacement part or compensate me for the damage. Avoid this careless place.

Improper MOT testing, failing for no reason
Had my brake pads and disks front and back done a few months ago through a garage I know. booked for my mot here a couple days ago, failed on parking brake efficiency which they said was 13% and it should be above 16%. They said they could have a look at what the problem could be, so I left it with them all day and got a call back saying everything looks fine and they don’t know what the problem is but the only way they can fix it is if they change the pads, how can they fix a problem if they don’t know what the problem is?? I told them I can take it to the garage who did my brake and see what they say, they tested the brakes and came back 26%, way above the limit. I called national tires back to book a retest and told them I had them tested at 26% and asked what the problem was when it got 13%. The guy got very defensive and argumentative, same one who is always at the front desk, no customer service, just very blunt. But I got it booked for a retest for today, just had it done and it passed even though I had nothing done to it. Didn’t want to have another argument about what happened with the first test but very bad experience. Wasted 2 days of my time with what should have been an hour MOT. And wasted £20 on taxis while I was waiting for them to check the “issues” which were non existent

Outstanding customer service
Outstanding customer service. I urgently needed my tyre put right due to a screw being embedded in it. I'd never been in touch with the garage before but called them and was surprised to be fitted in within literally 15 minutes later. The team and the manager simply could not to be more professional friendly and efficient, and did a cracking job at an unbeatable price. Dangerous fitting
Tyres were fitted by their tyres on drive service.
2 of the 3 were fitted incorrectly and failed MOT. Dangerous inside was outside.
The wheels weren't balanced either.
The company doesn't take safety seriously.

Con artists!
I would strongly advise anyone to avoid Halfords/National Tyres Durham for an MOT.
From start to finish, the entire experience was horrible. I was greeted by a rude, belligerent member of staff who simply demanded my keys. When I politely asked how long the MOT was likely to take, I was abruptly told “a few hours” and made to feel like asking a simple question was an inconvenience.
When I received the call to say my car had failed its MOT, the same attitude continued. The employee was blunt and dismissive throughout the conversation. I asked for a quote to repair the faults and was simply told, “We don’t do that here, find a different garage.” However, when I collected my car, they were suddenly very keen to recommend their “mate’s garage round the corner” to carry out the repairs. That immediately raised alarm bells.
Because something didn’t feel right, I sought a second opinion from an independent garage. They were surprised that my vehicle had failed. A pre-MOT inspection concluded that the issue listed as a major failure should, in their professional opinion, have been recorded only as a minor advisory rather than a fail. That left me with serious concerns about the judgement exercised during my MOT and whether I was being unnecessarily directed elsewhere for repair work.
To make matters even worse, I was charged twice for the same MOT appointment. Despite raising the issue, it has not been resolved satisfactorily and I’ve had to involve my bank to recover my money.
Dont use home service at all.

I arrived here at 8 AM for a simple tyre repair that should take less than one hour. They kept my car all day, today is Saturday told me the tyre cannot be repaired, they have no stock, and I would have to wait until Tuesday to get a replacement. When I expressed how inconvenient this is, staff were extremely rude and disrespectful — their exact words were: “if you’re not happy, take your car”.
Zero communication, no care at all about my time or my work, completely unprofessional. Wasted my whole day and caused major problems. Terrible service, I will never come back and will tell everyone I know to avoid this branch.

I booked mobile tyre fitting yesterday and yet the confirmation email had me down as taking the car to the garage. I spent 3 hrs yesterday in a phone queue and was never answered. I also went to the 2 national tyres garages locally to clarify and both said they had no note of my booking and couldn't access information as the computers were down. The mobile service did not turn up today. I then spent another 1.5 hours in a phone queue today that wasn't answered. I then called Halfords helpline that gave me yet another number to call. The money has been taken out my account and no refund yet. Absolute shambles.

Booked in for a diagnostic test at 8:30 only to be told several times throughout the day up to 7 1/2 hours later no one has had a chance to even look at it. Came to pick my car up at 5pm only to be told they had no idea what was wrong with followed by an automated message that the booking had been cancelled, suggesting that no diagnostic tests had been done, waste of time, don’t bother!

I have recently had my MOT done in the Crosby branch, the staff were helpful and knowledgeable when I had some questions about my car. I would definitely go there again as I didn't feel like they were trying to oversell like a lot of garages do especially to women.
