We used best value to find solicitors for our house purchase. They recommended notary express . Jasbir Dliwal was our solicitor but unfortunately the sale fell through although Jasbir was lovely and helpful, her firm tried to over charge us by 380 by also adding referral fees and double charging. This was rectified by the accounts team with the help of best value...all good so far although very cheeky of notary express.

Then best value appointed Rebecca Fowler of notary express and the nightmare began.
We had already exchanged before she was appointed so all she had to do was go through the information on the purchase file ..give us advice..report on the searches that we paid for direct from best value and not from the solictor and inform us of completion.

Rebecca Fowler failed on all accounts.!!

On the day of completion we called her ..we called her many times over many days but she never responded or answered our messages and voicemails.

On day of completion she finally took our call with a cold "yes???" as her response..no hello..no how are you...we asked her if she could please inform us when completion had taken place that day and she said she would let us know...this was Friday 15th January...til date we have not been informed..18th February..more than a month after completion.

She said that she emailed us on completion day after 15.41 ..when we asked her to forward said email as we received nothing despite being on the look out..she ignored our several requests and we never received this fictitious email or any proof of it ever being sent.

In addition we had no reply to our seaches..so that was money down the drain and to add insult to injury she tried to charge us for searches that we ordered from best value and not from her firm.

Also she tried to charge us for referral fees that are nothing to do with us. Lorraine from best value confirmed that referral fees should never be charged to clients and we only pay the quotation given by best value plus disbursements

This was fine but we were again charged several hundred pounds extra by notary express. ..when best value queried what it was for they replied for disbursements..however we already paid all disbursements including bank fees and land registry etc and they couldnt specify what other disbursement were being charged

Til date best value has not been able to get our £450 overcharged money returned. We have sent several emails and called even though we live abroad and its expensive to keep chasing best value.

Lorraine from best value was helpful and completely grasped the errors in accounting by notary Express who have a habit of sneakily adding fictious charges and double charging..this was our 2nd experience of them doing it so it cant be a coincidence..no wonder that notary express has ceased to exist.

More than a month after completion and still

No report on searches

No refund of our overcharged money

No submission of land registry forms.

No contact from solicitor. Rebecca Fowler to say completion done..we only found out from the seller that they had received monies. Totally unnacceptable behaviour from a solicitor who did practically nothing for her given fees. Shame!

Merlin who is the director of the now defunct notary express firm is good at responding to emails and is always polite unlike Rebecca, however unfortunately, Merlin doesn't actually address or comprehend the emails and information we send him and just rehashes his previous email reply, completely ignoring our points highlighting the payments we have already made and hence the £450 is an erroneous charge . Infact it is insulting and infuriating that he would ignore the content of the emails sent to him and keep reiterating his stance.

I will be reporting Rebcca Fowler to the ombudsmen for wrongful accounting and not providing services paid for as we are aghast that people like her are allowed to trade as a solictor. She is threatening us with legal action if we don't remove this review. Its our right. The public needs to know facts.

She is inefficient, impersonable, non contactable and I am sorry to say, dishonest.

Update: since posting this review notary Express had replied saying they are notary near me and not notary express.. however if you look up you will clearly see that their website is notary express.. also l carefully read reviews of other solictors for this firm and they are the same people that work for notaryexpress and they know full well who we are unless they have several clients that share the same grievances. This is not the first negative review Rebecca Fowler has received. I wish l read Trustpilot before agreeing to hire her. If she spent more time doing her work and less time threatening us..this review wouldn't have been necessary.

Charlie Bowden handled my sale professionally and honestly.
If she wasn't available to answer my call she would call me back and answer my emails as soon as she could.
