Excellent company who wants to put out quality rods and make life-long customers
I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews posted on this site for Orvis. I recently dealt with them on a repair that I needed done for a tip of one of their fly rods and they treated my case very well. My rod was a gift I had received a long time ago and they did not hassle me about finding original receipts or paperwork, which I surely did not have anyway. They were professional, kept in touch with me via email and charged what I thought was a very fair price. I could tell by working with them that they actually care about the quality of their product and want to make life-long customers out of the purchasers of their rods, which they surely have done with me.

They tried to charge me THREE times for delivery when I was wanted to make an exchange. They claimed I was going to have FREE EXCHANGE but it was certainly NOT. I called the customer service and she (pretended to/didn't even understand basic plus and minus. I will never buy from them again.
High-quality men's clothing
Orvis retails unique clothing for the outdoor person. While some of the styling could use updating, the quality of construction and textiles on all of the items I have bought is much higher than I expected. Shipping times are good and they regularly mark down items to attractive pricing.
Deceptive marketing and a response slow
disappointing and a response slow too. With real time stock data that seems most odd ? businesses here in New Zealand are not allowed to list sale items they cannot supply; it is rightly considered as entrapment marketing. A close call for me, phew.
Orvis Customer Service? I think NOT!…
Last year my wife and I attended the Orvis Fly Fishing School. After the school we both bought Encore fly fishing rods and reels, lanners and numerous fly's. This year is the first time that we got to take them out and use them on the stream. We didn't get out until July because I had surgery in May to remove a brain tumor. The first time out I casted and the fly got stuck in a tree limb, I didn't realize it and continued with the cast, which broke the tip off of the rod. I brought it to Orvis and was told that I would have to pay a $60 fee and they would send the rod and reel to Virginia and in two weeks I would get a new rod and reel sent to me. After 4 weeks I followed up and was told that the actual time would take 4 to 6 weeks for the rod to be sent. The following week I received a letter from Orvis Customer Service (if you want to call them that) stating that because of high demand caused by the pandemic my rod and reel would not be shipped until the end of September and to call if this was not acceptable. Of course I called but I was told that they had none in stock and I had to wait. I had gone to the Manchester store a couple of weeks earlier and seen that they had Encores on the shelf so I asked if I could just get one from the Manchester store were I bought it. Customer Service said that would be between me and the store. I called the store and asked, they told me that they were out of stock and I would have to wait. I asked "don't you make these rods right here in Manchester at the rod shop? Their response was "not the Encores, they come from overseas (probably China). I then asked what was the next rod as far as quality and cost, they told me the Clearwater. I asked that since I would be waiting over 3 months to get my rod and reel perhaps I could upgrade to a Clearwater and pay the difference between the cost of the Encore and the Clearwater. Their response was that they do not do upgrades and that I would have to wait until the end of September. Needless to say I am very disappointed with Orvis and their idea of customer service and will be looking at competitor products in the future rather than paying for overpriced Orvis product that is manufactured overseas.
A very disappointed former Orvis Customer.

Bait and switch
Orvis website indicated; ENDS TONIGHT · SAVE $50 OFF $200 · SAVE $25 OFF $50 · USE CODE: 50DEAL Details. The details excluded most of their products and after spending $240 I got no, zero, nada discount. BAIT AND SWITCH. I thought Orvis was better than this!
Beware of the Gift Card Scam!
Beware of the Gift Card scam! My husband was given a gift card for his birthday. He happily told me what to purchase. On check out I entered the gift card number and pin. The gift card was for $250 and I added another $224.00 in purchases so put in our AmX as well. When I hit the purchase button I noticed the receipt was for $474.00. First chance for Orvis to keep the gifted money if I hadn't noticed. I immediately started to look for the number to call which is not apparent. I saw a little box that states IF YOU DONT CALL OR CHAT IN 20 MIN. ALL ORDERS ARE FINAL. So I immediately started a chat in the first minute after placing the order. Second chance for Orvis to keep the gifted money. When the chat began I was told that once an order is placed they can't apply the gift card. Third chance for Orvis to keep the gifted money. When I brought up the 20 min policy I was then told "Hold on there might be something I can do!" She then returns and says "Okay you will be charged the entire $474.00 now but when you get all of your items we will give you a refund". I said that is not acceptable because one item is not going to be delivered for 2 months. I don't want to have to remember to look for a refund in 3 months time. So just cancel the order and refund the gift card back to the purchaser. This being the 4th attempt for Orvis to keep the money. At this point the tune began to change a little. Now I was told to hold on again. She said my card would be charged initially $474 but then it would "Go away!" I said what exactly do you mean by "Go away!" She said the charge would only actually be for $224. She then said the rest would not be charged until the final item shipped. What? This was paid in full. There should not be a second charge! This now being the 5th attempt for Orvis to keep the gifted amount! At that point I told her "I am taking screen shots of this conversation BTW, and the person who purchased this gift card is very well connected. He is not going to be happy about this! Miracles happen! Suddenly she could apply the gift card immediately and the card would not be charged until the last item was delivered! This struggle should NEVER have taken place! This should have been a 5 minute customer service conversation where the end result was that the gift card was applied as requested. That gift card should be looked at as money already received (as it is) by the company. It is not a coupon or a promo code. Was this just a lazy customer service agent? Maybe, or more likely how she was taught by the company to make the customer fight for their money. This in the hopes that through inattention to detail or shear exhaustion they leave that gift card behind or make a second purchase to use it. Either way its just bad business!
Website says “free shipping”. Well, Maybe...
Website says “free shipping on all orders.” And today I get a $25 promo code from them...so I spend 30 minutes shopping to find out that it’s one or the other, but not both. Nice bait and switch. I deleted the 4 items in my cart and will never bother with these clowns again.
DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING, POOR SERVICE AND POOR ATTITUDE.
I was looking for a birthday gift for a friend and saw Orvis' fly-tying kit. The pop-up that appeared while looking at the item offered a 15% discount for the first item purchased with a new account. I set up an account, got the acknowledgment and then tried to purchase the item but was not able to enter the discount. Called their customer help line and was told that there was an 859 minute wait time. Tried to log into the Orvis account that I set up the night before but the site said my ID and password didn't exist. Opened the chat window on the site and patiently entered in my information and problem and after I had written it all out, the chat window threw me out saying that there was no one there to help me. Called customer service, left my name and number and someone called back saying that they don't honor the advertised first-time discounts on the item I wanted. DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING, POOR SERVICE AND POOR ATTITUDE.
As if this company needs more praise
As if this company needs more praise. I had to send an Orvis fly rod in for repair (it was older but they said they would fix it). I followed their steps online and printed out a shipping label for UPS. I brought it to the UPS store and the guy said he would take care of it. So later that week I get a notice saying that UPS lost my package. After dealing with UPS's awful customer service I call Orvis to ask them what to do. They said we will deal with UPS and they replaced the lost rod for me in about a 30 minute phone call. I got a brand new rod to replace the lost one. I did not think they would do it because it was not even their fault it was lost, yet they did. I have nothing but confidence in them and all future fly rods I get will be through Orvis. Great company that will treat people well.
Defective product, poor customer service
Had received Orvis game shears as a gift, unfortunately they were defective and the spring in them broke. I called to exchange the product for another. They were very friendly on the phone, sent me the return lable and I mailed the defective product back, only to get a gift card in the mail in return. All I wanted was a replacement for the product that had broke, the card would have been ok if it would if covered a replacement product but it was for less than half of the price. When I contacted them they said as i didn't have proof of purchase that's all they could do and apologized for the misunderstanding. So Orvis makes out like bandits selling a defective product leaving me $50 short to replace it.
Orvis is a dishonest and shady company
I wish I never purchased anything from this store. Orvis is super shady. Most retail shops (although not all), offer free shipping. Their shipping cost was $10.95 for a single sweater. I bought 2 sweaters for my mom in 2 separate orders and paid $21.90 total for shipping for both orders. I ordered the sweaters separately so I could use a promo code/coupon code for each sweater even though I had to pay $10.95 shipping for each order.
The sweaters turned out to be way too large for my mom. My mom opened one package and tried on the sweater which was way too large. I returned the sweater using their prepaid UPS label which Orvis charged me $6.95 for. The other package my mom didn't open as the size was the same as the first sweater and she refused the package which was returned back to Orvis.
Do you know how much money I got back??? Both orders cost me $148.84 total which included a shipping cost and a "shipping tax" built into the sales tax fee. What I got back was $110.94. I lost $37.90 somewhere and I have no idea where the missing $9.05 credit is!! TThe shipping cost I lost was $28.85 total, but tell me where my missing $9.05 is???? I should have received my sales tax back.
Oh by the way, Orvis is the only company I know of that charges a shipping tax that is built into the "sales tax". Maybe other companies have the same practice but I have never in my life run across any company that does this. They don't disclose the shipping tax separately from the sales tax but I did a manual calculation and figured out Orvis charges an additional shipping tax that was built into the sales tax.
I don't know any company that does this. I have ordered countless orders from other companies and Orvis is the only company that does this. It's very SHADY and dishonest of them to not disclose the shipping tax as a separate line item. I would never order from this company again. It's not worth the hassle and not worth the headache. NEVER EVER order from Orvis. You can see from the bad reviews that they are not an honest company. Don't waste your hard earned money on this company!!!
Excellent!
items are excellent, products last forever and online phone support is top notch! Everything runs true to size and material matches the description to a "T"
Very disappointing
Very disappointing. I've been purchasing the Ultimate Khakis for 20 years. They have been well made and consistent. Unfortunately, Orvis has been changing where these pants are made and its seriously affecting quality and consistency. The reason I buy from Orvis is being able to depend on their quality. Unfortunately, they moved the source factory from Indonesia to India and the pants don't fit the same. Someone at Orvis needs to understand that customers are loyal to a Brand because they trust its performance. They have lost my trust and loyalty by changing the product rather than keeping it consistent and charging a few dollars more. Sad to see.
The promotion is on - unless it’s not!
Visited the Orvis Banchory branch where they are running their save £25 when you spend £50 promotion. Selected a top and proceeded to the counter to be told that there was no £25 off as the item was in the sale. Having looked at the promotion I asked where it stated that there were any terms and conditions applicable to the offer. The assistant agreed that there were none but despite this failed to honour the promotion. Have been an Orvis customer for years and expect Orvis to accept that they should stand by their promotions, if they have not got t&c’s right that is their fault!
I paid extra for overnight shipping
I paid extra for overnight shipping, but when the item was shipped, and it gave me a shipping date, the date changed that night to 3 days later. Apparently it actually shipped the following business day and one day shipping doesn't include Saturdays. I was pretty frustrated and customer service wouldn't refund my shipping. You should be clear that an order will take 3 days to ship and if you pay an extra 20 dollars in one-day shipping that actually means 3-day shipping (6 days total).

have requested numerous times by phone and form to have Orvis stop the catalog pollution for a year now. it never stops. they are polluters of the worst kind. the plan is to start collecting all the catalogs and return all to them. for this reason we will never shop with this company again

Promise given, not kept
Customer Service representative over the phone promised free shipping to Melbourne, Australia, even when I questioned the statement. I purchased a shirt to be sent. I then received word via email what the international charge would be. I phoned and spoke to a man who said, since the statement was given, Orvis would pay the shipping if I shipped it myself, just send the receipt of the charge. I had the shirt sent to me, shipped it international, emailed Orvis the shipping receipt to the exact person I spoke to, and never heard or received an email response. I phoned and it was as if that agent and the promise to pay my cost never existed. That was a year ago Christmas. This year, I received a veritable barrage of catalogs in the mail. Are you kidding? That was the first and last item I'll ever buy from Orvis. It appears from my experience and other reviews I've read on this site that this is not a reputable business. Between the aggravation and the cost, I shall shop elsewhere.

Too bad that this company do not even allow some people to visit their website and they are doing that strictly on some ocassions like that, like your country of origin. How do you plan to make it clear out there. Can we make something possible or not?

Another poor experience with Orvis
Another poor experience with Orvis As another review just stated I have called four times for a refund on a product that was sent back five weeks ago. Every time Orvis customer service person gives me a different explanation every time nothing is done and I am having to follow up again and again. Orvis customer service has gone horribly downhill over the years and I do not trust their products or their service anymore
