I bought a hooded leather coat from Orvis for $401.
After wearing the coat for 2 months, I wrote a review. Orvis Replied that the Review was rejected because I "mentioned prices" and because 'of language'.
I do not take their rejection of the Review personally: it's a coat. It's a Review about a coat. I wish I'd Saved the Review now to share here, but the Review was dispassionate, objective - I haven't a clue what "and language" could possibly mean; my sense is that they simply picked at random a couple of generically negative words as an excuse to keep potential readers from seeing one customer's somewhat critical Review.
I listed what I found good and unsatisfactory about the coat. And the "good's" are very good. In the end, I concluded that, at a much lower price - say, $180, the coat would be a fine purchase, all things considered. And as for "mentioning prices" - what on earth is wrong with that? If Orvis feels their coats are priced fairly, and if they're not manipulating customers price-wise, why should they have any objection?
I've actually purchased several items from Orvis over many years all of which, until this latest purchase, I've found satisfactory. But now I know that Orvis censors Reviews that aren't flattering - which means they're simply not honest. There being many other sources of high-end leather coats / apparel who are honest, I do not, regrettably, see the need to return to Orvis.

I was about to become a new customer …
I was about to become a new customer and while shopping online, a pop up kept appearing asking me to click on the link to join their email list and I would get $10 off my first order. I signed up, then clicked on the link within the email in order to get the $10 off, and that’s when I discovered that it was $10 off only if I purchased $50 worth of products. So I added enough additional items to meet that requirement, and it still wouldn’t give me the $10 off. I clicked on chat for customer service, the person failed to read my concerns, and after much back and forth, finally said that I couldn’t get the $10 off if I got the free shipping. So I went to a much better company website, where I purchased similar products with free shipping AND a discount as a new customer. That’s where I will shop from now on!

Orvis has a gem of a sales associate at their Eastern hills mall location in Williamsville, new York! She is rosemary smardz. Hope the spelling is correct. A round of applause for rosemary s assistance to me during my feeble attempt at gift buying for my wife for Christmas. She matched colors , found sizes, made accessory suggestions and even, yes, gift wrapped my purchase, just like when I was a kid ! All these tasks and even remained pleasant through out the session. I’ll never do business with Orvis again
I purchased a windproof sweater fleece for a trip to Seattle that I’m leaving for tomorrow for the Thanksgiving holiday and the sleeves were way too short. Because sending it back would’ve taken too long and wanting a nice jacket for my trip, I decided to drive the 2 hours one way in pouring rain to exchange it at Orvis’s Roseville store yesterday, where the staff told me that even though I had my order receipt that I couldn’t exchange, return the item, or even get a store credit or a refund because I had used the PayPal option at checkout, but that they would send it back for me. I left the jacket with them to do just that. I wasted 4 hours or my day driving, $35 in gas, and came back empty handed. Upon returning home I promptly contacted customer service to voice my concerns over the lack of customer service I received and was told that I could purchase something else now and that I’d be refunded once they’ve received my item back. Needless to say, I’ve never received such shoddy customer service in my life. As someone who buys quite a bit of product from Orvis, I can say whole heartedly that I will never buy another thing from them again after my experience. I instead purchased a Patagonia Better Sweater yesterday evening from a local retailer here in Chico. Sadly, I just wanted to exchange the jacket for an Orvis Trailhead Hybrid Jacket. Had I been able to do that, Orvis would’ve kept me as a customer.
Update 12/1/2017:
To add insult to injury, I received a partial refund for my return today. Even after all I went through and returning the item at a store I drove 2 hours 1 way to get to, they deducted $6.95 for return shipping costs from my refund. What a horrible company.

Orvis will never have my business again. Ordered a dog mat with initials on it and they send me a blank one and the matterial looked liked something from dollar store. Sent it back and they refunded me 1/4 my money. And they couldnt explain to me why. Stand by ur word and products!

Recently, I ordered Gokeys Worlds Most Durable Boat Shoe, and the left shoe of the pair had a defective stitching, the right shoe was perfect.I exchanged for a second pair, same issue. I exchanged for a third pair, same issue. I spoke and received an email from Mr. Stacy Doss, Orvis's Director of Manufacturing (who alleges these shoes are handmade) stating, "Maybe you should look to footwear that is totally made by programmable machines so there are not any variations"! No, Mr. Doss, you need to manufacturer quality products. As an Orvis customer for over 40 years, I didn't deserve Mr. Doss's condescension. Third pair going back. What a complete waste of time.

I ordered a 250.00 sweater as a gift for our brother in law. Unfortunately it was too large and he returned it. The credit I received was less 26.94 to cover shipping both ways. In this day of many offers of free shipping, I am appalled by the gouging of these shipping charges. Yes, buyer beware, for me not fully paying attention to these inflated charges, but this will be my first and last purchase from this company.

Let see, i ordered my wife's barbour jacket on 10/26/17...and after much delay, it shows estimated delivery date of 11/8/17. That's 13 days for shipping and 11 days if corrected for weekend. I really doubt im going to order anything else directly from orvis in the future because of this. While i know its a 1st world problem...13 days for an article of clothing is borderline too long imho. Hope it gets here soon...wow.

I ordered 2 women's shirts online
I ordered 2 women's shirts online. It's been 3 weeks and I've still not received my order. The shipping costs for 2 shirts is outrageous and for as much as I spent on 2 shirts, it should've been free. To make matters worse, I was told I couldn't cancel the order and get a refund because the items were in transit. Really? Three weeks and still no shirts? Also, the shipping is supposed to be 5 to 7 days according to the Orvis website. Never again will I purchase anything from Orvis. The customer service is appallingly bad! There is no value or appreciation shopping Orvis. Shop somewhere else - anywhere else!

Orvis has changed
Orvis has changed. I usually purchase clothes or dog supplies. In the past, I didn't have many returns because I was very happy with my purchases. But I have had one bad experience after another this past year. I bought a dog gate that looked great in the photos. When I received it, it was rough wood with a uneven stain and it didn't work as a barrier. I sent it back and did receive a refund. Then this summer I ordered a few shirts for vacation. They were over $70 each and fell apart before summer was over. It is rare that I return clothes that I have used but these things were expensive and I expected more from Orvis.
I sent the two shirts back in one box and received confirmation that both were received. They gave me credit for one shirt but not the second one. So far, I have called customer service or chatted with them 3 times. Each time I am told the second refund is being processed and I should see a credit within 24-48 hours. I get the feeling Orvis' warehouse can't handle getting multiple orders (two shirts from two separate orders) returned in one box even though the paperwork for each order was included inside the box. Customer service was less than reassuring and I keep getting told the same thing -- it is being processed.
It seems to me when you send things back, at the same time and in the same box, the refund for all items should be processed at the same time not weeks apart. And when a customer calls to inquire, the customer service representatives should understand why a person is confused. Not impressed with the quality of the fabrics used in their t-shirts and shirts and not impressed with customer service.

FAST customer service
Broke the tip of an older Clearwater 2-piece fly rod that's no longer manufactured. Shipped it back to Orvis. The rod arrived there on Friday. Despite having been told it might take 4-6 weeks, a replacement 4-piece rod was on my doorstep on Tuesday.

22 years of loyalty down the drain.
If you want to see my full experience go to the asheville orvis store rating under j smith. I will give a short version here broke h2 sent it back got it back at no cost. First time I used it after I got it back snap broke again. Called orvis customer service spoke with Corey and after that conversation I'm no longer an orvis customer. I thought after 22 years and probably 15000 dollars spent not to mention all my family and friends business that my business meant something to them, all the people that have ask me what rod or waders to buy etc..... news flash it does not mean a thing if you don't believe me ask Corey when I told him I did not appreciate the way he was speaking to me and if he did not stop I would have spent my last cent. His reply was I will be sure to notate your not buying anything else on the account in an arrogant tone of voice. I have read bad reviews on orvis before and thought well that's just some hot head that didn't get their way or some people can't be pleased no matter what you do for them. Not the case I see now what people were saying. Wonder if it's under new ownership. Not the same orvis from 22 years ago better rods but customer service has went from 5 stars to 1. Great rods but so are winston and Scott and others. Great rods and equipment brought people to the company and Represenativs like Corey are sending them away from the company. I was treated like this at radio shack many years ago and I never bought from them again and I hear they are going under. If orvis keeps this up they will join them. Thanks for 22 years of great products and service sorry I will have to give my next 40 years of service to another company. I'm replacing my orvis stickers on my vehicles. No more free advertising on my cars. You had my money and my praise and now you have my disdain. I once praised you and now I will bad mouth you. It never had to be this way but it is what it is. Orvis, I`ve always really liked your Company until today. You truly screwed me over on returning shorts. I knew it would cost me a little bit, but $30 dollars is nothing short of gouging people out of money. But, this time you have left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth!!
I can order shorts from almost any place and they fit loose, but your same size shorts were tight, so I had to send them back. I`m on a fixed income & I don`t have $200 dollars or $30 dollars to just give away to a Company who is making millions!!

I ordered a 9ft 5wt Clearwater Rod from this company and it was shipped damaged as it broke on the third cast I made with it. They accused me of breaking it and would not stand by their product but were happy to fix it for a $60 fee. A disgusting bunch of skeptics and I would recommend buying from any competitor.

You just can't review your purchase on the Orvis web site
At the beginning of this season I purchased 2 no rods from the Orvis shop in Amersham, one was a Helios 2 and the other a Clearwater rod, both of these rods are truly fantastic, I also purchased one new Battenkill reel with a spare spool, and all new line for both my reels, the shop manager recommended an intermediate clear line which I also purchased at the same time. The only item I have had a problem with is the clear line, not sure if it was a bad one off, but the loop came undone after two fishing days. Also the line would just not straighten, and constantly coiled up in the hand and on the cast. I tried to review this line on the web site, however my review was moderated, so you cant actually review it at all. Not unless you give it a good review that is.
Don't believe the 100% guarantee, rude reps and awful store experience
I purchased a Rod and Reel combo from Orvis less than 2 months ago. I was able to fish with it maybe 4 times before the rod cracked during a cast. They advertise a 100% satisfaction guarantee so i figured I'd just take it back to the store where I bought it an they would exchange it and make it right. i was so wrong. Firstly the store manager told me that he sees this all the time. Then he said I could send it in with a $60 charge and 6-7 week wait for them to repair the rod. It's less than 2 months old, has always been taken care of and never dropped or stepped on. I asked for him to simply exchange it and he refused. What is a 100% satisfaction guarantee when it is neither 100% or guaranteed. Let alone the poor quality of their product.
So I called the "customer service" line figuring the manager was just having a bad day. The agent frequently spoke over me and was just plain rude. They told me that I would have to send it in and pay the $60 for the 25 year guarantee to fix it. Again this is on a defect on the rod. I asked about the 100% guarantee and was told that I could return it for a full refund so I asked if I could just return the whole thing to the Orvis retail store and was told they operate independently and I would have to pay for shipping it in to return it. So the store refuses to honor the companies 100% guarantee and I have to pay to box the thing up and send it back to them. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I still have to box it up and send it back to them and after reading reviews on this and other sites I'm concerned that they will not honor their word.
I won't purchase from Orvis again based on this experience.

THEY TOLD US THE REELS WERE NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND BASICALLY YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK, THEY DIDNT OFFER US ANYTHING, JUST BASICALLY SAID THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. CUSTOMER SERVICE REP ON THE PHONE WAS ALSO RUDE. AS A NEW CUSTOMER TO ORVIS I WILL NOT RETURN. BAD BUSINESS. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE I HAVE NO REEL FOR MY FISHING TRIP THIS WEEKEND.

Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service! Purchased 5 shirts that I ended up sending back because they weren't what I thought they were. Used their supplied return label and tracking number. They say they never received them and that I'm sol because they don't keep track of their return tracking numbers! I'm disputing this thru my CC company!
