The gym itself is okay and the staff are polite. However when I joined it was advertised as a 24/7 gym then shortly after joining the hours were reduced. The reason I joined was because it was a 24/7 gym, I ended up leaving and joined another gym.

We do apologise for any inconvenience caused when Brentwood was not operating as a 24/7 gym, we can appreciate this can be frustrating. Since 04/08/25, Brentwood changed back to being a 24/7 gym. We know that everyone likes to workout at different times whether that be due to work commitments or due to personal preference and being open 24/7 means we can provide for everyone, anytime, anywhere! No longer 24hr gym…
I joined because it was a 24hr gym and now they have reduced these hours saying it is temporary and because of local noise restrictions even though there is another 24hr gym around the corner and being on the high street there is a lot of very early morning noise from retailers deliveries.not quite sure if this is the full story.the gym itself is quite well equipped and usually clean and when it isn’t that’s down to some individuals who use the facilities.i find the gym is friendly at the time that i go

Frustrated as it is actually an ok gym
Frustrated as it is actually an ok gym. However just recently it is now not 24/7, shutting at 10pm on weekdays & 4pm at the weekend! There is no reduction in the membership fee to reflect that change & no timeline of when the gym will be back to full operating hours. Sadly leaving for another gym. Shame!

Although a lovely gym I am somewhat disappointed to find out that this place is no longer a 24 hour gym. When I first joined I was able to come around 4am, I went twice this week to find out the gym is not open until 6am.

Signed up for first month discount but didn't receive.
I singed up to Pure Gym and it said there was a special price for the first month of £30.99 and then for every further month it would be £39.99 however even though it showed this on the payment page it took the full amount from my bank account. Originally I tried to restart the process incase it was an error but it kept happening. Not sure how to get my £9 back? Apart from that the signing up process was very straightforward.

Small gym, unprofessional staff.
This gym is really small, so be prepared to queue for machines if you have to go at busy times. There are often no lockers available. There are only mirrors available in the free weights area and the studio, so if these areas are full or in use there is no way to check your form. There is no Wi-Fi.
I have been to a couple of classes with one instructor who was rude and unprofessional - when I had to stop an exercise during a class as I was in pain, she just laughed and told me to not do the exercise again. She spent most of the class talking about herself instead of helping people with the exercises.

I also noticed that yoga classes are only available for extra charges. That is quite disappointing as makes membership a lot more expensive than advertised.

Miserable Assistant Manager
Miserable Assistant Manager. Been going to classes at lots of gyms for years and most PT's who do the classes are great and very encouraging but this lady wasn't either. She was rude and I found out later from another member that she had been moved from Chelmsford branch as they were unhappy with her as well. Won't be going back.

Pleasantly surprised with the gym, I was worried it would be overcrowded as it is a small gym, but not overly busy ( at the times I'm going) only real disapointment is the cost, when compared with other puregyms e.g Basildon puregym which is huge and they also pay for your parking, the joining fee is only £10 @ bas but £15 at Brentwood, (silly things I know, but still matter) and cheaper monthly too, but I know I have to pay for the convenience of it being near my home, selfishly I hope it stays relatively quiet during my visits as it does make easy to get the full benefit of the workouts I wish to do. But all in all very good 👍

The gym is ok
The gym is ok. As theres limited options in the area it’s the best for the options i have.
The lifting areas need some barbell neck pads. There needs to be more benches as they are always all in use and there needs to be cleaning spray and towels for us to clean equipment.
Also the leg press is annoyingly squeaky, thought it would have been fixed by now.

New gym
New gym, and the machines are noisy already from lack of oil, no one notices this? Bought 2 passes, one for 3 days and free membership, only worked once, so I’m not sure what impression they want to cause, but is not a good one.

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment are fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. If you have any concerns about equipment, please notify staff on site as soon as you can. Thanks, PureGym.

Decent temperature and clean.
Staff was not familiar with the exercise bike programmes and consequently I was not able to use a similar program to one I use at home.
The fixed weight machines lacked instructions that could be accessed without a smart phone.
The leg press was squeaky and I was not confident it would not break.
I was unable to use the smaller weights as one lady had them all lined up.
With instructions on the machines my experience would have been more positive.
Also having more than one of the lighter weights would be good, I noticed there were several of the heavier.

The response mentions induction several times. Please re read my comment carefully.
I am pleased you take feedback seriously and now that you have re read my original comment you will see that an induction would have been pointless. My main issue was staff not knowing how kit worked.
Your response pushes blame to me for not having an induction. That is not positive customer service.

We always advise that new members have an induction to ensure they are familiar with the lay out of the gym and understand how to use the different pieces of equipment. Inductions are usually placed on the class time table. You can also get in touch with the Gym Manager via email, and an induction can be arranged for a specific date and time. Alternatively, members are able to speak to the staff in the gym (if they are not on the gym floor, please feel free to knock on the staff room door) and have an induction. We hope this helps!
