Had to change my review from 5 stars to 1 star because of the treatment I received from a staff member named Mark today.
I’ve only been coming to this PureGym for about a week and until now the experience has been great. All the other staff members I’ve met have been friendly, helpful, and welcoming.
Unfortunately, today was completely different. The app wasn’t working properly and I couldn’t book a class included in my Core Plus membership, so I asked Mark for help as he was the only staff member available. He was very dismissive, didn’t help at all, and quickly asked if I was done speaking.
After that, I went downstairs briefly to show my sister one of the machines I use for core workouts, as it was her first time visiting. We weren’t planning to stay there and just had our belongings with us while I showed her. Mark followed us downstairs and loudly told us we couldn’t have our things there and needed to put them away immediately. When I explained we weren’t staying and I was just showing her the machine, he responded “I don’t care, you can’t have them down here,” pulled a face, and stormed off before I could respond.
The whole interaction made us feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed. I actually left the gym early because of it, which was disappointing because I had been telling my sister how welcoming this gym normally is.
I understand people can have bad days, but there’s no reason to be rude or hostile to members, especially during a first interaction. Really disappointed by the experience today.
PureGym Farringdon Spin Class
Lydia delivers absolutely outstanding spin classes. Her energy is vibrant, dynamic, and genuinely uplifting from start to finish. Every session feels expertly structured, with a perfect balance of intensity and motivation that really pushes you to get the most out of your workout.
Her playlists are exceptional—thoughtfully curated, upbeat, and perfectly timed to drive each phase of the class. They create such a powerful atmosphere that the time flies by, even when the workout is at its most demanding.
If you’re looking for a high‑quality, high‑intensity spin class led by someone who clearly loves what she does, Lydia is exceptional. A fantastic instructor who brings enthusiasm, professionalism, and brilliant energy every single time.
You get what you pay for
Firstly the good stuff. Pure Gyms in general are convenient and numerous, which is very handy if you travel and have multi-gym access. My home gym in Farringdon is relatively inexpensive and never gets too busy. The staff there are hard working, friendly, helpful and without doubt, Pure Gym's biggest asset.
Now for the not so good. Pure Gym uses Matrix fitness equipment, which is on the budget end of suppliers. This means that your work outs will not be as satisfying as they would be if they used someone like LifeFitness instead. Most people may not be aware of these differences, so won't see it as important. But as someone who has used many different gyms, the quality of equipment really makes a big difference to your motivation levels and how hard you can push yourself. So Pure Gym gets low points on this. Then comes the changing rooms and showers. In general, most gyms in the UK have unhygienic showers to some degree or another. But the showers in Pure Gym Farringdon are especially poorly maintained. They not only suffer from the usual corrosion, mould and grime, but also have a nice selection of algae too. And they smell. It's just horrible. To compound things, the showers themselves are cold and barely at a trickle. Bad in summer, really bad in winter. Not what you want after a work out. The lockers are cheap and offer no security whatsoever. The locks themselves are often broken. I've been to worse Pure Gyms, but I've also been to better ones.
Like most things, you get what you pay for. I use Pure Gym because it's very near, I get a 50% discount from my insurer and they have good multi gym access. But I do not consider it good value compared to somewhere like Virgin Active, which though more expensive, has much better facilities, that in my opinion are worth paying extra for.

Not 24hrs
Disappointing to join a gym that claims to be open 24hrs a day, only to discover that it closes at weekends.

Overall the gym is good for me to do my workout but the lockers in the men’s changing room the majority of the lockers are broken or can’t lock properly.

Gym has exceeded capacity
Gym has exceeded capacity, too crowded, you might end up clashing with the next person when you do an excercise. The mens locker room does not have any lockers that have a working lock, almost all locks are broken. It seems like the management dosen't care.

Very happy with Pure Gym at Farringdon overall however the classes available from 13/01/35 in the evenings are a bit disappointing as Pump class has been removed from the schedule.

Excessive Cost
Price of Farringdon PureGym are 3x the cost of other Puregym memberships.
A large portion of the local residents live in council flats. Its just not affordable.
It mainly caters to wealthy people working in the city. Could at least have a scheme for poorer people, or reasonable Off Peak times for Farringdon.
On top of this the membership price keeps going up each year, whilst the opening hours keep reducing. Its ridiculous that I can't do a long workout on a Friday in the evening after work, without having to switch over to Holborn PureGym halfway through. It used to be 2/3rds the price for a 24/7 service. Now I'm paying 50% more and getting 2.5 days less???

Most locker are broken
Most lockers in the Men's changing room at PureGym Farringdon are either broken or have been broken into. I've been a member for months and they just don't seem to fix or maintain anything around the gym. Do avoid!

Dated equipment
The equipment was dated. I came here expecting to be able to do my training as per my coached plan but the equipment is very basic. I was baffled that none of the staff had even heard of a watt bike. The machines don’t synch to smart watches or tell you what watts you are doing. I had to complete my training based on guess work. When I said to staff that I found the equipment disappointing, they said that the price of membership reflects the quality however I paid £14.99 to visit this gym for one day which is nearly as much as my membership back home for swim and gym and classes!

Paid for a day pass when it wasn’t open
App let me pay £15 for a day pass for Farringdon on a Saturday only for the gym to be open on weekdays only. No where was this advertised. Thought the whole point of pure gym was 24/7.

PureGym are truly shocking
PureGym are truly shocking. No customer support and sell day passes for gyms that are closed. Pretty sure that’s called fraud.
