This review is not about a small bug. It is about fundamentally broken workflows and very poor system design.
I initially joined PureGym using a friend invitation link. After that, my account was marked as a “Free Friend / Buddy”. However, I do not appear in my friend’s buddy list at all. His buddy list is completely empty, yet the system still treats me as an active buddy.
Because of this:
I cannot remove myself from being a buddy
I cannot end the buddy status on my own
I cannot upgrade to a paid membership
I cannot re-register properly
In other words, my ability to become a paying customer depends on a buddy relationship that does not even exist visibly. There is no option for the user to fix this themselves. The only “solution” is to contact customer support.
That would be fine if customer support actually existed.
Emails have gone unanswered for three days. There is no phone support. The listed phone numbers do not work. There is no live chat, and even chat requests state response times of up to 24 hours, which is completely unacceptable for a consumer business. Basic account actions are impossible without support, and support is effectively unreachable.
Because of this broken flow, I was forced to create a brand new membership using my work email address just to be able to join at all. That alone should never be necessary.
Before payment, the system showed access to multiple gyms. After payment, the actual gyms I could access were different. What I paid for and what I received did not match. Gym access options changed after the transaction was completed.
This entire experience shows a system full of dead ends, inconsistencies, and missing user controls. Users are forced into support queues just to perform basic actions, yet there is no reliable support available.
I only joined because my friends train here. Otherwise, this is not a business I would choose, or even consider walking into.
If I had to summarise the user experience during signup and membership activation in one word, it would be: a disaster.

I have a disability and joined PureGym. I contacted the disabled induction team as instructed and no one responded for five days subsequently asked if I could get a refund I was told in an email 3 words contact your bank. Is disgusting to be ignored on email. It’s worse than being ignored in society when you have a disability and PureGym have no way of contacting a human being no telephone number or email. It’s all automated so you can’t ever speak to a real person, my treatment at PureGym has been disgusting and I’ve only had contact with them for two weeks. I would never ever use PureGym and I would not recommend it to anybody!! Awful

I would like to do place on record the consideration and kindness that I have been shown by Austen and Mel and their team. I love my parents but if I had have had these two as a mother and father I would have turned out a better person. As well as having Eva, Dimitar, Pegha, Sammee, Sergio and Theo as family members. Margaret does a sterling job in keeping the gym clean.
The gym itself is well equipped and there is wide variety of classes. It never gets to busy and when it does members are willing to share equipment, which is a big plus. The members are simply fit, good looking, healthy and most importantly humble.
Everyone is welcome at Pure Gym Fulham.
I cannot recommend this gym highly enough, join now, live the dream and become part of the family.

Doesn’t work… pin invalid and no one to call and email takes 48 hours to get a generic response so now I have paid and just can’t use the gym or get into the app. Super helpful…

I found two managers at PureGym -London Fulham to be extremely unkind, unpleasant, untruthful, and unhelpful today. Shocking behaviour.

Most of the time, the reception at Pure Gym Fulham Broadway has no staff or trainers available to provide support or assistance when needed. I have had occasions when I needed to speak to someone from reception or a manager, but no one was there.
The customer service at Fulham is poor.

Regarding getting my membership it was easy to get, it was a great experience. I have no questions because the website and process was very straight forward. It’s my second time paying a membership, I had to cancel last time because I was going overseas for a while but when I arrived I knew what gym to join right away :) it’s a great place, very clean, the atmosphere is fantastic for training and staff are also very friendly

The day after I joined, pure gym made 50% discount on the membership.

Three-day trial at start of the year. Upside: good location (Fulham Broadway). So-so: basic equipment and changing rooms, but fine for the price. Downside: Sparsely staffed, if at all. I didn’t hear back at all from PureGym after the trial and, after careful consideration, decided to join another gym instead.

Exercise machines need to be reorganised, floor exercise was already pretty small now it has been reduce by 50 %. If you hike the price like you do with no improvement you are doomed.

Enter at Your Own Caution – Women, Beware:
DO NOT GO TO FULHAM BRANCH
I must say I was thunderstruck when I visited this gym for the first time. I thought it would be convenient, but instead of a decent experience, I quickly discovered the unpleasant reality. When I went to see a personal trainer, he didn't even give me time to get up the stairs before making a lewd comment.
I ignored him and continued to work out on the treadmill, but that seemed to be taken as an invitation to comment on my running technique. While claiming to help, he made creepy remarks about my body—specifically my bottom. And this was a member of PureGym staff!
I filed a complaint with the head office, since local management didn't seem to care. The person claiming to be the manager was on crutches and appeared uninterested in addressing the situation.
Unfortunately, head office was equally dismissive. Even after emailing the CEO, I have yet to receive a response—more than a month later.
Women, beware! I expect PureGym to make statements about not tolerating such behavior to improve their public image, but the reality is that they do nothing to address it. In fact, their lack of action clearly suggests they endorse this behavior and do not create a safe environment for women to work out in peace.
As for the gym’s cleanliness, it was appalling. I felt like I needed a tetanus shot just to use the facilities. The showers were worse—I'd have to wipe my feet on the way out. They hadn’t discovered the concept of hot water, and the shower felt like someone was just dripping water. There’s no way you could effectively shower there.
Again, what a waste of money. Respectfully, if I wanted to experience creepy behavior from men, I could have been safer at a seedy nightclub, where at least they’re overt about it. When I spoke to other women in the changing room, I was shocked to find out that this wasn’t the first time this trainer had behaved this way.
I should have seen the warning signs—the giant 6ft poster of the trainer outside the entrance should have been a red flag. It seems my naivety led me into this situation.
