Overall the gym is value for money, enough equipment and friendly. However, the running machines are a little old and temperamental and there is a whiff of weed regularly in the changing rooms.

their pricing structure is a dead giveaway. every other gym in my area lets you pay for a single session: here you can't sign up unless you pay for a month, which says a lot about their faith you'll want to come back.
they make you pay extra to even be allowed in at peak hours. turning off auto renew is unnecessarily complicated and doesn't tell you it won't take away the access you've already paid for, with the aim of shunting you onto a "maintenance fee", £6 a month whose sole purpose is to not make you repay the £10 fee for booking (which a Limited Time Offer tells you will only be waived on first purchase if you Sign Up Now, Hurry!)
so obviously the payment structure is cynical and predatory. the gym i attended for that month is roughly as customer friendly. it's dark (i had to use a torch to see some of the numbers on my weights), unventilated, with the smell to match, and i believe you have to pay extra to fill your water bottle*? there are few wipes, fewer free weights - as far as i can tell, only one set of 2.5s and of 1.25s in the entire building, and good luck finding them - and literally no dedicated spaces to lift free weights in a cramped, busy basement.
a Lifter's Code sign on the wall sets out rules anyone serious about weight training will tell you not to listen to. you're not allowed to make noise while you lift, you're not allowed to drop the weights when eg a deadlift is done. this is ignored by most, and i would also ignore it, but i did get kicked out once because an employee refused to believe the soft blue bottoms i've exercised in for years weren't jeans despite me trying to explain otherwise - and i promise you normal gyms don't kick you out based on what you're wearing anyway.
you can do so much better, and when all's said and done you'll be paying less too. love yourself more than this.
(* they have fountains that are too weak to even really drink out of; you can't use the functional machines without signing up to the significantly more expensive Plus tier)

was a good visit , nice gym. Would be better if the staff engaged a bit with the clients,2like say hello and goodbye and probably pass a little comment asking how their workout was.

I've been to Croydon, Purley, even Romford and a few other PureGyms around town. However, none of those were stuffy or as smelly as the Sydenham PureGym.
It smells horrible and the smell doesn't go because there's no proper ventilation (I mean I'm sure there is but it just isn't good enough), the entire Gym wherever you were, whichever machine you would use you could smell sweat in the air. There is no window or (useful) AC to help bring in fresh air. It felt really stuffy.
Machines felt a bit sweaty but thats partially expected. It would be nice to put disinfectant sprays and paper towels just like COVID times.

Excellent range of classes with great instructors! Using repetition and easy to follow but physically challenging sets legs bums and tums, body tone and Pilates classes are all great work outs.

Why are there so many treadmills and so little free weights?
Only having two squat racks in a gym of this size is a joke. They're never free. Trying to weight train in this gym as a woman is pretty horrendous - the free weights are downstairs NEXT TO THE MEN'S CHANGING ROOMS. They've prioritised treadmills over everything else (there are more or less 20 of them).

Love this gym for the 24hr access and was happy to see a cleaner there this morning. As on the past my one criticism would have been the cleanliness around the gym. The changing rooms have always been very clean.
Gets busy from 5.30am but plenty of equipment to use and no waiting around.
Definitely recommend
