Recommended unpretentious gyms
For a no-frills, non-pretentious, no-posing gym environment, Pure Gym(s) are clean, modern, well-equiped, cost conscious and friendly. Free exercise /pilates /yoga classes too. Have been a member for 10+ years.
If you want free WiFi, coffee, sauna, pool, sunbeds etc, it's not for you.

Poorly maintained
Last four months the main gym floor and then seperate section in the first floor have had light bulbs going like a 90's strobe light. Absolutely no desire to sort them. Manager says soon but like I said it's four months now and still not replaced.
It's not just this though. Air con fail. 3 months.
God awful smells from the changing rooms, still ongoing since they refurbished it.
Last year it was the ski machines. 5 months to finally fix them but that was after the vending machines were selling warm water to "save money"
Damage to the walls. Once a year if you're lucky and they will get repaired.
Studio fans retired so it's more like a hot yoga which would be nice but you're in a HIT class.
Overall since COVID the costs have gone up (fair enough) but the service has dropped and I am fed up with a shabby gym with no regard to it's users. Especially when I am having to dodge strobe lights and the headache it gives. It's time to re-evaluate if you have gone too far since COVID.

As 66 years old man I find the Internet…
As 66 years old man I find the Internet scary, but a beautiful member of staff helped me all the way though, which is a great help ,when you know how it's a peace of cake so a big thank to the manager and the member of staff for helping me,all round a brilliant experience.

Induction course
Joined the gym a few weeks ago, booked an inductiin course soon after. On the morning of the course, literally as I was driving to the gym, I received a telephone call informing me that the person running that days course was not in, was offered a time later in the day, which was not convenient for me, since then nobody has contacted me to offer another date and / or time for the course, just very poor communication

I absolutely love pure gym
I absolutely love pure gym. Their classes are fab and work me so very hard and trust me I’m quite fit but they kill me which I love! The staff are always welcoming and the gym is always clean

PureGym is great and good value for money.Your team are courteous and supportive
Your team are courteous and supportive, and guided through and now I feel the benefits of joining PureGym. Gym attendance combined with change of diet helped me to lose weight, I lost more than 10kg over three months.

I have been in pure gym in 2019 at…
I have been in pure gym in 2019 at Manchester moston branch and after 5 years back again today on 25th October 2024 and I saw same equipments and even two machines were missing! Those machines are very basic and old and nothing special compared to other modern gym. It means the owner of pure gym doesn't want to spend money to buy more different type of exercise machines. It is only good for someone who is looking for fitness and but not really good for muscles development.

Great place
I like this gym, staff are friendly and really enjoy the classes! Wayne’s classes are the best (with awesome music) but most of them are really good and popular. Always equipment available. Only criticism would be that could do with classes starting a little bit earlier during the week but that’s due to my own working hours - classes usually don’t start until around 6pm.

We always aim to provide a broad spread of kit to cater to a range of fitness needs and meet demand as it changes through the day, getting the balance right between weights and cardio, but if you have any other/specific suggestions please approach the Gym Manager or leave a note in the feedback box, which is regularly reviewed.
