We could not leave a review on Rated People for Carl Neville Roofing Services in Barnsley, just because the job was not accepted via the website.

We are still experiencing a leak in our conservatory roof, which is now causing ongoing damage to both the roof and the adjacent wall.
After researching local contractors, we chose Carl based on his strong reviews (9.5+ ratings). In December 2025, he completed the work and we paid £1,200 in full on completion. Unfortunately, the leak returned within days, indicating the issue had not been properly resolved.
We contacted Carl again, particularly as his work is advertised as “guaranteed.” What followed was several months of frustration. There were multiple instances where visits were agreed but he did not attend, often providing last-minute explanations such as emergencies or other issues. On the occasions he did attend, no effective repair was carried out, with weather frequently given as a reason.
Now, nearly six months later (June 2026), Carl returned but requested an additional £300 + VAT to carry out further work, stating that he “does not do anything for free.” When questioned about his guarantee, he explained that it only covered his initial assessment of the problem, not the resolution if the issue persisted. This was not how we understood “guaranteed work” and was disappointing to hear.
The visit ended without any repair being carried out, and the leak remains unresolved.
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this service and would encourage others to carefully consider their options.

I had a very bad experience with Rated People.

I spent over 10 years building my profile, earning 100% positive feedback and excellent reviews from customers. Then my website was removed from my profile, and a large part of the work I had put into building my reputation was effectively lost.

Now it feels like the platform is more focused on selling expensive subscriptions than supporting tradespeople. Paying around £200 per month just to maintain visibility is difficult to justify, especially for small independent businesses.

One thing I have learned is that you cannot take away Google reviews in the same way. There is a reason why so many tradespeople focus on building their Google presence. Those reviews belong to your business reputation and help customers find you directly, rather than through a third-party platform.

In my opinion, Rated People has become more of a marketing platform than a platform designed to help tradespeople. Even some of the images used in their advertising look more like stock photos than real tradespeople.

I would encourage other tradespeople to invest in their own website, Google reviews and local SEO. At least then you're building something that belongs to your business and cannot disappear overnight because of changes made by a third-party platform.

I recently used the services of Conor Lynch Plumbing and Heating to repair a blocked pipe connected to my washing machine. I cannot recommend the company enough. Conor was professional and polite and was punctual when he arrived at my property. He was very patient when conducting the repair and answered all my questions regarding the work he was undertaking. Conor was very skilled in his job and was a great problem solver as he suggested a proposed repair which would resolve the long term problem of our blocked pipe. Conor carried out the proposed repair and tested the washing machine and answered questions before he left my premises. The fee I was charged was reasonable compared to other quotes I was given. Conor gave me confidence of being a true professional in his field with a great passion for the work he is undertaking. He was very approachable and accessible. I was very happy with the standard of work that he produced. If I ever need another plumber to carry out a job, I will not hesitate to use his services again.

I got scammed for around £2000 on this site. I wouldn't use it again. That was about 10yrs ago. Imagine the ammount of scammers on here now!!!!!

Giuseppe was very quick in responding to my post. He gave a quote & was clear on what it included. Was available to do the job immediately . Kept me informed whilst the job was in progress.

Very few leads and the ones there are are ridiculously expensive

We had a bathroom leak into the lounge below, my usual guys were not available so I hopped onto rated people and after a bit of research came up with these guys. From the outset they were professional and considered in the identity of the problem and went on to fix 2 separate leaks on the shower which they fixed, they advised there was also a small leak on the boiler which they are not allowed to touch because of Gas Safety regs but ensured that my boiler people were made aware. The whole experience was very professional and the charge pleasantly lower than I expected. I thoroughly recommend them.

Good advice about replacing a glazed external door. Gave prompt service, and worked hard to fit the door correctly.

The builder I got from rated people was a COWBOY and they won't let me leave a negative review and i can't speak to anyone !!!

I have set up 2 accounts with them, and from the start, it was a nightmare.

They set up both wrong. One had the wrong name on there, targeting, and contact email. The second was worse, we could access it for 4 weeks after, the email on there was spelt wrong and the other details needed updating as well.

I was told we would be refunded for the time wasted, but this never happened.

I was told about the number of leads we would get for our membership. This was a lie and the jobs on there are not sustainable, £14 for a bathroom repair.

They also wouldn't speak to me because when I set it up, I mentioned another person would be involved as well, and they only took their name, so I spent a week proving I was part of the business I set up with them.

I requested these be cancelled after the first month, 3 weeks later, there was no response, and a 3rd payment is due soon. So far, we are almost £550 down with nothing to show for it.

At the point of writing, there's been no response to me reaching out, and I will have to go to the bank to dispute these charges, as it seems to be a scam at this point.

Avoid at all costs!
