I had a very disappointing experience with Septieme Largeur. The short version is that their size chart is completely incorrect. The customer service is arrogant. And the return/exchange fees are not mentioned (as of the date of this review) on their website unless you have to make a return or an exchange. If you’re curious about my full experience, continue reading.

For context, I normally wear a UK 7.5 across most brands. My feet measure 26.3–26.4 cm, which consistently puts me in that size. According to Septième Largeur’s own size chart, however, my feet fall right in the middle of the foot size range for a UK 6.5 in a wide-last shoe. Based on that guidance, I ordered the Edmonds (listed as a wide-last model) in 6.5 UK.

When the shoes arrived, I was surprised to find that they did not fit at all. And by “did not fit,” I don’t mean they were slightly tight or uncomfortable in some areas —I could barely get my feet into them. They were very tight in every dimension. In practical terms, they simply did not fit the foot size their own size chart claims they should fit. It felt like I had ordered at least one full size smaller than what the chart indicated.

When I went to submit a size exchange request through Septième’s return page, I was prompted to pay a $25 reshipping fee.

Since there was such a major difference in what the chart suggested and the actual fit, I felt that it is the company’s error and that they should cover the shipping fee.

I contacted customer support and explained the situation. I was told that this is their return policy—returns and exchanges are not free and that the customer is responsible for the fee. I pointed out that I ordered the shoes based on their size chart, and that the chart appears to incorrectly indicate what foot dimensions a size 6.5 should fit. Instead of addressing that issue, I was told the size chart is only for “informational purposes.” When I asked what that meant, I was told customers are not supposed to rely solely on it when choosing a size and that it would be unfair to other customers if they covered the return shipping for me.

I find that response downright disrespectful. If customers can’t rely on the size chart, what exactly is it there for?! At no point was there any indication that they would look into the size chart issue by the way and try and make it more accurate. All I got was “Sorry the shoes didn’t fit. Size charts are not 100% accurate.” Which would have been fine if the size discrepancy between fit and chart was not so big. I want to make it very clear that by going by the chart I got shoes that were at least a whole size smaller and were unwearable hence I don’t think it’s my mistake I got the wrong size.

There are plenty of other traditional men’s footwear brands at this price point that have size chart that are actually meant for you to base your sizing choice on, and offer hassle free returns and exchanges. I’d be taking my business to those competitors in the future and I suggest for those reading this review to do the same.

Apparently at Septieme saving $25 on shipping is more important than customer satisfaction and building a loyal customer base.

Sorry I don't understand French but the shoes are fantastic!!

Ideally - SL should have facilitate the return / replacement of shoes with a default shipper (DHL, UPS, etc).

Otherwise - the overall service and response was very good and the shoes are great.

I purchased the caviar gray patina oxfords size 10.5. I am very impressed regarding everything, the sole construction, the leather quality, the color and the details. The shoe looks and feels high-end. I would recommend to others going 1cm above your foot length.

The loafers were shipped very fast and packaged perfectly. This was my first time ordering from Septieme Largeur. I ordered the black Vadillo. The fit was perfect. Some of the best quality loafers I’ve owned. I will definitely order some more styles soon!

The worst e commerce site I've ever encountered.
Customer Service provided incorrect sizing guidance, necessitating return the parcel They refused to contact DHL where the parcel has been sitting for 1 month. Numerous robo messages from the company without substance. A defective website ordering and return process, truly dreadful in every respect.

Poor quality, I hoped for decent, they were sloppy, inconsistent, bad cuts of leather, cuts in uppers from manufacturing.

Fast shipping and fast customer service response. Sizing is really odd with lasts determining width so do your homework and trust your instinct.

Septième Largeur has a serious sizing issue and a very opaque return policy. Please do not buy from them online — it’s really not worth the risk.

Once again 7L delivered quickly and were very helpful with my questions. I continue to recommend their high quality products and services, this was my 5th pair of shoes from them. :) Never disappoints!

Absolutely superb workmanship, excellent quality and fit, these are the third pair of shoes I have purchased from Septieme Largeur and all have achieved this standard. In my opinion they meet - and in some cases exceed the standards set by renowned Northamptonshire shoe makers. And finally, the customer service is simply excellent - friendly, efficient and professional.

I sent my suede penny loafers to the Maison for the installation of rubber soles and metal toe caps. The result exceeded all expectations - the work is flawless, precise, and beautifully finished.

The customer service was equally impressive: communication was clear, polite, and fast. Despite my shoes not being from their own brand, they agreed to take the job as an exception - something I truly appreciate.

Shoes are beautifully elegant. Box and dust bags were fantastic quality. Communication with Laurane was excellent when I mistakenly ordered the wrong shoe trees. Shipping was expedient. All around great experience.

Great starter shoes.

It is a serious shoe company making serious shoes.

The crafstmanship on the shoes, the insoles, the liner and the outer leather is awesome. It is a properly built shoe. It is a proper French-styled shoe as well. Very thin and a bit elongated lasts. On the lasts they have, don't expect excellent lasts, but for the price I think they're good. It is value for money but not excellent value for money like Meermin or TLB, just to note.
If you are in Paris, absolutely worth going to the store and trying them out. Customer service is excellent.
