Worse than webuyanycar. Don’t waste your time!
Sherwoods Peugeot Durham have a sign outside saying they will buy your car and beat anyone else's price.
Turns out they talk utter rubbish!
They offered me less than webuyanycar which shows how bad their offers are.
Don’t waste your time or energy going there thinking they will give you a good offer.
AVOID,AVOID,AVOID
AVOID,AVOID,AVOID, Daughter bought a used car from them approximately 6 months ago after paying £9000 cash and £500 for an extended warranty. Just recently the car has developed a misfiring issue and comes to a halt. Not ideal for an 18 year old on a busy main road.
We then took the car back to Sherwoods citreon in Gateshead to be told that the fault was cleared and the car was ready to be picked up.
2 days later the car developed the same fault and again ground to a halt. Managed to restart it and get it home.
Rang the garage again and they said there was nothing they could do as the car has to be presented with the fault. Yes I agree but the fault clears when you restart the car l.
Was told by their service department to take it elsewhere to someone who knows about cars basically.
Please please please avoid this Garage as their customer care was non existing and were quite willing to take an 18 year old woman's hard earned money and shut the door in her face. Absolutely disgraceful.
You have been warned.
Don’t get swayed by the offer of a…
Don’t get swayed by the offer of a years guarantee, it’s not worth having. I thought my 3 year old C1was not running as well as it should. I was told that there would be a charge of £140 for the technician (used to be called mechanics ) for connecting car to diagnostic machine. My local garage will do for £40. Come back Town & Country at least you didn’t have your eyes taken out especially when you’ve paid over the odds for car
Very poor customer service
Very poor customer service, I was told once a Peugeot 308 had been fixed I would receive a phone call as it would not start when I went to have a test drive at the Gateshead dealership.
Phoned 3 days later and told they are awaiting part.
Been online today and discovered the car has been sold.
Shocking customer service and will never use or view any cars again from this dealership.
One last thing as of 22 Nov 2022, Sherwoods have not claimed this profile or asked for reviews.
Enough said
Disappointing
In July (3.5 months ago) I purchased a Peugeot 208 from Sherwoods Gateshead.
By mid October the car had developed an extremely loud noise. It turns out there was a hole in the exhaust.
I returned the car to the garage only to be told nothing could be done as it was past the 3 month period (by two weeks). They did however offer to fix it for me for approx £1,000.
I have since been and had the car inspected by an independent mechanic who advised me the hole was caused by rust. Something that should not have developed over the time I had the vehicle.
Not only have I been sold a car which was not fit for the road, I was nearly robbed of £1,000. (The independent mechanic ended up fixing the car for £250).
Think twice before purchasing a vehicle from this garage.
Poor customer service and unhelpful Having made enquiries about Suzuki…
Having made enquiries about Suzuki ignis with Jordan who was extremely helpful and posed the question of reserving said Suzuki his sales manager said the 24hr period was fixed and would not help even in the knowledge that I was over 300 miles and a car journey in excess of 5 hours without hold ups. Upon checking Sherwood Suzuki terms and conditions it clearly states a period of 3 days can be allowed and it appears their sales manager should appraise himself of said conditions so he knows correct information. Also beware the large free UK delivery advert page is misleading in the fact that only the first 150 miles are free and the page misleads you without looking closely at advert should be much clearer.
If I could give zero I would.

Since buying my car Peugeot 108 it's had numerous things go wrong. I can't get a courtesy car or get it picked up ever. The man Sean has an attitude of not really caring . Unprofessional and uncaring staff and now my car has broken down yet again ruining a trip to the farm tomorrow for my grandson and of course there's no car available anywhere apparently. I'm disgusted and will never recommend. I bought it and the windscreen wipers didn't wipe. It won't start on a morning. The heater on blew out cold air. The petrol cap wouldn't shut. Yet it's supposed to have had a 40 point check!!
I have purchased my cars from Andrea @ Sherwoods for over 10 years
I have purchased my cars from originally Springwood now Sherwoods Gateshead for over 10 years now.
Andrea in sales is fantastic, her customer service is the best. An absolute credit to the company.
Any queries i have had have always been dealt with as soon as.
I can not recommend Andrea and Sherwoods enough!
Thanks so much!!
My daughter has bought two cars from…
My daughter has bought two cars from the Washington used car lot. The first one had several faults which should have been sorted before it left. Incredibly she decided to buy another one there. She's had it a week, tyre pressures needed sorting and now the oil light has come on. Dont believe a word when they say they service them before they leave. Shoddy place, I wouldn't touch them
Fantastic service
Was leaving to go on holiday on Friday when my fiat based motorhome broke down I phoned sherwoods Washington and told to bring it along and would look at it Monday,I got there and the guy was waiting for me he directed me straight in to a waiting technician who then solved the problem .
Fantastic service, great guys and saved my holiday.
Poor after sales service
Bought a car back end of Feb, had the car two and half month and the service light came on. On top of this the Adblue required service as well. I believed the car would have had a full service that would have lasted me a year, 6mths at least. Got the service done unable to clear Adblue. Rang garage Sherwoods to get problem resolved, took the car to nearest garage to get diagnostic done. Sherwoods unable to clear message. I now have to run around to resolve the issue as James (sales manager) Sherwoods Durham, has washed his hands of the issue. Claiming the car wouldn't have needed a service etc. Will never buy a car from them again
Really poor aftercare customer service…
Really poor aftercare customer service received from Sherwoods Peugeot car garage in Gateshead.
I bought a Peugout 2008 assumed the spare wheel had the locking wheel nut key needed to remove the wheels, when I had to change the wheels we identified it was missing. Without the wheel lock for our specific model we can’t change the wheels. After contacting Sherwoods they advised I would have to pay £103 for the locking wheel nut key, absolute joke, I logged a complaint and a month later I’ve had no response at all. Please be aware check you have everything you’ve been promised and double check you’ve been given the right warranty length, we’ve been done over and no one is interested after the sale has been completed and they have your money.
Buy at your own risk
Buy at your own risk. I bought a Suzuki Swift from Sherwoods Gateshead for my daughter. Great sale couldn't do enough for me. I took out the service plan so every service was done by themselves. Then the biggest failure happened. Forgetting about the little irritating things like not resetting the service indicator and having to return the car after a service when the oil level warning light came on going home. After it had been serviced and been passed its MOT for 3 months the brakes failed luckily my daughter was able to control the car and come to a standstill. The car was collected by an independent service centre and all 4 brakes... pads, discs and callipers were condemned. The service centre said the condition of the brakes hadn't happened within 3 months and the MOT couldn't have been carried out correctly. Initially helpful on my first telephone call the Sherwoods representative (a company director I believe) became very aggressive to the point I had to ask him to calm down then he said he wasn'tgoingtocommunicatewithmeanymoreandput the phone down. Ultimately going through The Motor Ombudsman I was offered an apology for the lack of professionalism from the company director ( which I refused to accept). At no point have Sherwoods group or The Motor Ombudsman on Sherwoods behalf offered any sort of an apology for the risk they put my daughter and grandson under that day or any financial compensation as the repair cost me £1000. Also one final piece of advice if you think The Motor Ombudsman will help you think again the are financially supported by the motor industry and will never favour against a dealership.
Appalling aftercare once they got your money
I bought a black volvo S60 for £13490 from this dealership in October 2020 and had it delivered to me 200 miles away but when it was delivered their was a small dent in the bonnet, when I contacted them about it they said for me to get it done but they would only pay £40 towards it as that's how much they could get it fixed for(as a dealership they obviously got contacts and can get it done at trade price) I also paid £199 for Diamond brite to be applied to the car but when it turned up their was no after care kit as promised and no certificate to prove that it had been applied, I've contacted them numerous times and they say that it should of been in the boot but it was not, they also said that the car was valeted before I got it but inside the car their were parking tickets, raffle tickets, nerf gun bullets and various other rubbish they said that they are going to send me the after kit out but it has been 6 months now and still nothing, the aftercare from this company is appalling and I will not be buying from or recommending them to anyone in future. Not happy
Very good experience
Although the sale didn’t go through (my fault not theirs) I was treated in such a friendly and compassionate way by Jordan in Suzuki sales. He spent time with me on a video call and was even complimentary about my potential trade in.
I feel that this 5 star review is testament that they are a good dealership with high standards
