One stop shop for lodgers!
I think Spareroom is the first place people go if they wish to rent a room. It is not necessarily about house or flat sharing. Not everyone wants to form a friendship with those they share with, some people just want somewhere to sleep or be when they are not working. In my case my lodgers spend time with their family at weekends or other times when they are not working.

I find it unreasonable that users are…
I find it unreasonable that users are required to pay for a subscription just to contact advertisers. Being able to send messages is a basic part of using the platform, the rent is already hell expansive,and charging for this feature makes it much harder for people searching for accommodation. I would appreciate it if you could review this policy and consider a fairer approach.
I’m very disappointed with this Spare Room.
I’m an existing customer since 2020 I think ,but with this subscription charges you kind of lost me ,no problem In the future I might be able to find a room through friends through word of mouth..
Subscription what for ?why we need to pay in order to send message on someone’s Spare Room ?

When you conduct a search, you'll see two types of adverts in the listings, Free to Contact and Early Bird. You will need to be an upgraded user to contact the Early Bird adverts. If you want to use the site for free, you can contact Early Bird advertisers after they've been on the site for 7 days, as they too will become Free to Contact.
To search for 'Free to Contact' ads, please go to the Advanced Search section.
We do need to offer a premium service in order to keep our site running and help people find homes. We make this service optional, and many of our users use our free service.
