The people you talk to are polite and helpful. The company itself made an effort and contributed to a claim that theyt did not, in law, have to pay.

Had to wait 3 days to get approval for a consultation for Orthopedic and even after that there was no approval in sight. Had no such poor response from previous insurers. We are looking for another insurer at present.

7 months down the line and so many hoops to jump through! Wouldn’t accept a consultants letter as referral for procedure and getting a GP to do anything has been more difficult than necessary! Had been with AXA who did all the leg work for their money. I wonder what I’m paying my premium for with The Exeter! Definitely finding an easier to use insurer after I have the procedure!!! Sometime in the next year hopefully as symptoms worsened dramatically in 7 months!!
Only plus for the one star was talking to their online GP promptly and easily.

I've been with the Exeter for over a year and not had to claim until recently.
Straight off the bat, they're trying to dodge my claim. They don't return calls if you leave a voicemail.
Be warned- if you are on weight loss medication, they will try to refuse your claim and blame your symptoms on the medication. Despite my referral letter clearly stating that I had experienced symptoms well prior to beginning a GLP1 about 14 months ago, and having zero symptoms whilst on a GLP1- they decided that my symptoms were caused by my choice to take up a cosmetic treatment 😂
Buyer beware, they will do everything they can to avoid paying out claims. Don't waste your money. I was sent a form to take to my GP after I appealed 3 times - the refusal reason changed each time and I had to ask them to read the referral letter multiple times... After taking the weekend to think it over, I've cancelled my direct debit instead.
And I know they won't bother to actually look into this and they'll say they can't find my info... Blah blah. I spoke to Laura Watts via email on Friday the 16th of Jan 2026.

Claim dealt with in full, with prompt and helpful comms. Not 5 star because one email they sent me was full of typos and made no sense, which they subsequently apologised for.

Excellent service so far really helpful and understanding. It's my first time using private medicine and it's a good experience so far. Only the operation next.

I recently had my hip replacement surgery by Gavin Holt at the Nuffield Cheltenham- the whole process from initial consultation was brilliant and easily organised costs paid. After a few visits for physio at the Nuffield I then swapped to online with the HealthWise app- brilliant!
