Excellent hotel: one flaw

My wife and I booked for 3 nights, arriving on 5 September. The only reason I am not giving the hotel a 5 star rating is down to the room (room 10). Whilst is was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, it was a little on the small side for 2 adults and 2 dogs (albeit only Yorkshire Terriers) and the property roof was one wall of the room so to go down one side of the bed, you had to be very careful not to bang your head and, again, that was an issue when getting out of the bed. Also, in the en-suite, the raidiator was so close to the sink that there was a risk of bumping into it whilst washing which could be painful, especially if the radiator was on. Finally, the window blind kept coming off its bracket when one tried to pull it up. Everything else was superb: very friendly and helpful staff, excellent food/drink and a hotel full of character (it is 300 years old) unlike some modern sterile hotels. Also, super dog friendly. There was even a welcome box in the room containing dog treats, bowls and blankets. Also, each dog was provided with a sausage at breakfast. At the end of the day, would I stay there again? Yes, as long as it was not in room 10.

EXCELLENCE IN CLEANLINESS & COURTESY!

First I had a wonderful experience on the phone booking a room- the 'Lady' was absolutely customer orientated!
On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly face and voice (after having viewed efforts in presentation of flower display at the entrance- we were already smiling).
Things never dipped- EVERYTHING about our one night stay has been EXCELLENT - "All the staff make the effort to provide with courtesy and professional attitude!" The room (Room 9) was and is absolutely SPOTLESS! CLEAN and inviting- perfect for us! The bed feels like a king couldnt complain! My wife has mentioned more than once that they have tried to cater for ALL possible needs with even a hairdryer left to use.
I urge anyone to book here not merely for the staff or the beautiful Hospitality but for the location too: A town FULL of very courteous and friendly people that made this one day experience so wonderful and scenery with sounds of nature that I miss from my youth- I don't think even a five star rating is good enough.
The owners must be proud of the efforts made- "CLEANING STAFF ARE TOP NOTCH PROFESSIONALS!" ALL THE STAFF AT THE CASTLE HOTEL ARE TOP NOTCH PROFESSIONALS!"

Our daughter has been ill throughout 100 mile race (85 miles in and she's still struggling on) we've been accommodated by the hotel and allowed to book extra hours at short notice- "Yet another marvellous kindness they've shown to us- real people with very commendable empathy for our circumstance!"
The town isn't large but within a 30 mile radius there are many things and if you drive - This particular Hotel makes an excellent base to plan different daily excursions from!
