Dangerous advice from box shifters and gaslighting


UPDATE: Thomann’s public reply below claims they "sincerely appreciate" my feedback, yet in private, their senior management gaslit me and blamed me for their own incorrect technical advice. This public apology is pure PR damage control—real sincerity would have been an honest email reply, which I am still waiting for.

I wouldn’t recommend buying complex or high‑value gear from Thomann because their pre‑purchase advice is unreliable and their support feels like pure box‑shifting.

I bought a lot of equipment and asked what I needed to connect everything safely. I was given incorrect information, so I bought the wrong cables and had to return them and purchase the correct ones myself. This was completely avoidable.

If I’d blindly followed their advice, the whole setup would have been wrong and I might have spent ages wondering why my gear sounded “off,” not realising the problem was the cables they told me to use. It was only because I did careful research afterwards that I confirmed what was actually correct.

When the gear arrived they included UK‑spec power cables even though I had clearly bought a Furman and was asking what I needed to connect it. They could have sent the right cables or just asked how I was powering the gear, but they didn’t.

I sent detailed feedback directly to a senior / upper‑level contact (not general support). The reply tried to gaslight me and blamed me, even referring to a manual for something I hadn’t even received yet. If you’ve been made to feel like it’s your fault for their bad advice, you’re not alone.

If you’re spending a lot of money on gear that has to be wired correctly, you shouldn’t expect to be treated like an Afterthought.

Thomann great at resolving faulty item

Something I bought became faulty after 1&1/2 years. Thomann couldn’t repair it so they gave me a new one as it fell within the 3 year Thomann warrantee. I didn’t have to pay postage. It was all very easy. Great service, thanks!

Sire P6 Bass Guitar

Bought a Sire P6 Bass and wanted to get an update on shipping (to UK). The assistant was very knowledgable and polite, gave me an update a quick overview of the UK Customes process and estimated timeframe. I found the whole experience very informative and would very much recommend Thomann to any prospective UK customers.

Thomann has always been solid. Lots of information about all the things that musicians might need or want, helpful product reviews by purchasers, reasonable prices on many items and of course sales campaigns and whatnot. A good company with many of the things that aren’t available locally. Highly recommended.

I wanted to buy an instrument at a…

I wanted to buy an instrument at a local store but the price was so much more i had to try Thomann. I can't fault them. Just before my order was delivered the item went on sale. I emailed and they immediately refunded the difference. Including the sale, the price was nearly half what the store was asking.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience

Ordered a gong stand, reviews were ok. However the quality is so cheap so decided to return. First of all it’s not straight forward you have to contact customer service, they said they have booked the collection which i doubt as i wasn’t provided with any shipping label. Obviously nobody came to collect, had to contact them again and the same thing they made me wait another week pretending like someone is going to collect the parcel but nobody never came. Absolutely ridiculous service. I just want to get rid of that product and get my money back. Can someone sort this out!!!

PSRSX720-PSRSX920

I had bought a Yamaha PSR SX720 online from Thomann. However, I had not informed myself sufficiently beforehand about the possibility of connecting an external monitor. This was not possible on the SX720.

After a very helpful chat session, I was able to arrange a return and subsequently purchased a PSR SX920 from Thomann.
This was delivered the next day, and the SX720 was taken in return at the same time. A few days later, I received the money for the SX720 back into my bank account.
