Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 80 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many customers appreciate the company's ethical mission and commitment to fighting child labor, finding it a compelling reason to purchase their products. Reviewers often enjoy the taste and quality of the chocolate, with specific flavors like salted caramel frequently mentioned as delicious. The customer service is also highly praised, with many consumers reporting positive and efficient interactions when issues arise. However, some people were dissatisfied with the product's taste, describing it as bland, bitter, or like cheap cooking chocolate. Others found the irregular shapes of the chocolate bars difficult to break and eat, and some noted a decrease in bar size. The price is a common point of contention, with many feeling it is too high for the quality received, especially when compared to other brands. A few customers also experienced issues with packaging, such as stiff advent calendar doors or incorrect chocolate varieties inside the wrapper.

If your experience with Tony's has been less-than-perfect, we'd love the chance to put things right before you leave us a review.. So pop an email to mailuk@tonyschocolonely.com, and our Choco Fancare team will work their magic. Tony’s Chocolonely is an impact company that makes chocolate, committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. And not just the cocoa in our chocolate, but in all chocolate worldwide. Tony's Chocolonely was founded in 2005 by 3 journalists from the Dutch TV show ‘Keuringsdienst van Waarde’ after they discovered that the world’s largest chocolate manufacturers were buying cocoa from plantations that used illegal labor. Since then, we've dedicated our efforts to raising awareness of and eliminating inequality in the cocoa industry, becoming the #1 chocolate brand in the Netherlands. With incredibly tasty chocolate, we lead by example and show the world that chocolate can be made differently: in taste, packaging and the way we do business with cocoa farmers. Starting with paying them a higher price. Alone, we’ll end exploitation in our cocoa supply chain, but together we can change the industry across the globe. That's why we invite everyone to join our commitment. 'Cause it's only together that we'll end exploitation in cocoa.

Cheap

Cheap, barely edible garbage with lots of marketing and corporate spin. Its branding, brand-feel, name, packaging and literally everything about it, feels utterly vile.

They however have flooded the UK market and seem to be all that's available in most corner-shops.

Very disappointed with this chocolate…

Very disappointed with this chocolate just tastes like very cheap chocolate.
They say they are crazy about it well I'm not.
Not a patch on Cadbury's.
They try and justify the price saying they are into equality and fair trade.
Save your money and buy something else and if your concisions bothers you used some of the money you saved to give to charity but don't buy this.
I never will again.

My husband was away for the night

My husband was away for the night, so I jumped on the opportunity to try this chocolate that has been catching my eye every week in sainsburys. I thrived on the fact I didn't have to justify the price tag to the other half who would complain about spending an extra 10p on a block of cheese.......I got home unwrapped it, the anticipate was overwhelming me, but it is a shame the chocolate did not do the same. After the first bite I google it to make sure it wasn't an American brand as it tastes like a cheap bar I could buy from aldi (I wanted to put a body part but trust pilot wouldn't let me) I am all for ethics and supporting a good cause, but in return they have to provide a tasty treat to reflect the price tag

Rip Off

I thought I would treat myself to an easter egg and I could not have been more disappointed, 5 very small eggs and one larger one in loads of packaging. Was definitely expecting more chocolate for the money. Even then I might have forgiven them if the chocolate was delicious but sadly it tasted cheap and rather unpleasant. How they feel they can justify the price of this egg is beyond me. My advice would be save your cash

What is all the fuss about this…

What is all the fuss about this chocolate then!
£3 for something that doesn't taste any better than a 55p bar from Lidl.
What an absolute joke!
No wonder the shelves were full! I thought they'd just been restocked, but clearly it's down to the extortionate price.
High price doesn't mean high quality!
I can't see this company surving, unless they atleast half the sale prices.
It's a very, very competitive market, taste and price is everything.

Disappointing

It's really poor quality and poor flavour genuinely worst brand I've had for a while and it was a multi pack so tried several flavours. It just isn't tasty - why are other brands more tasty and better quality?

Please just make the pieces regular squares or rectangles

I had the Dark Almond & Sea Salt and 70% Dark Chocolate blocks.
Taste-wise the almond one was really good, but I was a little disappointed with the 70% dark chocolate one. Which is a shame because that's the type of block I buy on a regular basis. However my main complaint is the breakpoints being all crazy-pavement style. It makes breaking them and eating the pieces quite difficult, and when you break the pieces off they don't do so cleanly with chocolate shards going everywhere. I really want to keep buying this brand because I love chocolate but want to make at least a minimum effort to be ethical about it, but I'm not sure due to the above.

Very low-quality “chocolate”

Very low-quality, over-priced chocolate that’s probably not even slavery-free.

I can name 10 everyday brands that taste far better right off the top of my head. This junk tastes like it was originally intended for the slaves of slaves.

Wonderful (only slightly inconvenient) chocolate

Wonderful chocolate, however I do wish the bars were divided into normal-shaped pieces that I could actually break off with my fingers rather than having to take a knife to it or just bite into the whole thing. Small complaint though. Great taste and setting a great example ethically speaking (even if sadly not many others follow), and reasonably priced for the quality. Baffled by others complaining of bad taste.

It’s such a shame as the concept is…

It’s such a shame as the concept is good and I like the ethics. But the chocolate itself is awful, tasteless and worse than the very cheap supermarket chocolate. I’d rather pay a bit more and buy fairtrade chocolate that actually tastes nice!

I am VERY disappointed with my empty advent calendar window

I am VERY disappointed that this morning I haven't received a chocolate in my Advent calendar this morning. I have started purchasing Tonys chocolate m when you pay £13 for a chocolate advent calendar you expect at least one chocolate in a window. Especially the day before you suggest to share the extra chocolate... So I will not be purchasing Tonys advent calendar next year. And because of how much I was disappointed this morning may not purchase Tonys chocolate anymore...

Overpriced chocolate

Overpriced chocolate that tastes like a very cheap chocolate found in Poundland.
The difference shapes aren't really needed, if they want to make a point about the difference sizes then I suggest doing so in different sized squares so it easier to eat.
I would never buy this again

Disappointed

Thought I'd buy a bar to see what justifies the price.

Yuk!

My wife and I both said the same thing. It tastes like the chocolate that cheap Christmas Tree decorations are made from.
Threw it in the bin
