Very disappointing

Very disappointing. Scammers who don't respect their own policy but are very fast to take your money !
Tutor are asked to work up to 4 hours for free, sometimes more !
According to their policy, if the students decide to not continue after those non paid hours, they should refund the tutors half of the price paid by the students. However, the refund never comes, even after months of contacting them and asking them and they always send the same message saying they are sorry for the delay and that they will follow up with their teams... They are mocking people! Students are also complaining to never be refunded. Total scam, avoid at all cost! There are more better platforms out there that respect both the students and the teachers.

Tutor Didn’t Even Work There

Tutors and Students should stay away from Tutoroo. They use outdated and unauthorized tutor profiles to attract paying customers, accept payment for inactive tutors, and refuse refunds when the misrepresentation is exposed. I posted a factual warning on their official Instagram (while fully respecting the CEO’s and employees’ privacy), and they blocked me to suppress public feedback.

This is a deceptive service. I paid S$240 on Tutoroo for an in-person language tutor, chosen for her language skills, location, and availability. After paying, I discovered the tutor hasn’t worked with Tutoroo for over five years, she even described the platform as “misleading” for continuing to use her profile and distributing her personal details.

Tutoroo is a Singapore-registered company (Tutoroo Pte Ltd, UEN 201706349Z). In my experience, their original offer was false. They misrepresented tutor availability at the time of payment, were unable to supply the advertised service, and then hid behind vague “introductory service” terms to avoid refunding me. This isn’t an introduction, it’s taking money for a service that doesn’t exist.

Their Terms and Conditions do not override Singapore’s Consumer Protection Fair Trading Act (CPFTA). Their conduct fits the statutory definition of unfair practices, including:

Section 4(1)(a): Accepting payment without being able to supply the service; and

Section 4(1)(b): Making a false or misleading representation about the availability or characteristics of a service.

If you’ve had a similar experience, please speak up. These predatory business practices deserve public and media attention. I intend to file a Small Claims Tribunal case and report this to CASE and the PDPC for possible misuse of personal data.

Even the tutor I paid for wrote directly to Tutoroo:

“I was previously a tutor on your platform around five years ago, but I am no longer associated with Tutoroo. My profile, however, still appears to be active. Please remove my information from your website, as I do not consent to it being used to represent current services or mislead customers.”

Hi Nick,

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced and completely understand your frustration. We truly value your feedback and regret that this situation has caused confusion. The tutor’s profile remains visible in our system as part of our listing records, which occasionally may result in misunderstandings regarding tutor availability. Please rest assured, however, that introductions are only made with active tutors who are currently available to teach.

We also want to assure you that your unused payment is completely safe and remains valid as lesson credit. You can use this credit at any time for upcoming lessons. At present, Tutor Olia is an active and verified tutor who is available and ready to begin lessons whenever it’s convenient for you.

Our team would be more than happy to assist in scheduling your first session or addressing any further concerns you may have. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding, and please don’t hesitate to contact us should you wish to proceed or need additional support.

Kind regards,
The TUTOROO Support Team

I paid for TUTOROO’s service

I paid for TUTOROO’s service, but never heard from the assigned tutor.
I repeatedly requested a refund, yet the team kept reassigning unwanted tutors instead of processing it.
It has now been over 22 days since payment, and this has caused me significant stress.
I hope others don’t make the same mistake of paying upfront before confirming communication with a tutor

Easy and effective, good payment plan

It was really easy to connect with a Vietnamese tutor living in my city.

What's great is that for payment, you only go through the website for two weeks -- afterward, you can pay your tutor directly without worrying about any overhead.

Essentially, you're paying a finder's fee for the first couple weeks haha, which is fine because I would not have been able to find my tutor without Tutoroo!

Not to deal with

My student discontinued after two paid sessions, and as per the policy of this platform I am entitled to half of the total payment. Despite multiple follow-ups, I have not received this payment.I am extremely dissatisfied with the platform’s handling of this issue.

Smooth Process, But Lessons Became a Hassle

The sign-up and booking process was very easy and smooth. I was also able to get a tutor quickly, and my first lesson went really well, which gave me a good impression of the platform.

Unfortunately, things changed after that. My tutor, Shelly, missed the second lesson, and I couldn’t get hold of her until hours later when she explained that she had mixed up the date and time. I understood it was an honest mistake, so we rescheduled.

However, she didn’t show up again for the next lesson and only contacted me hours later, saying she had work issues. We set another appointment, but that lesson was delayed for more than an hour. On what was supposed to be our third proper lesson, she had internet issues. I even offered to call her with my own airtime, but both numbers went straight to voicemail. She was only reachable through text on WhatsApp, not calls.

At that point, my patience ran out. I set aside specific time for these lessons, and it became a real inconvenience. What was meant to be an enjoyable learning experience turned into unnecessary stress.

I still have two more paid lessons that I haven’t received, and I’m currently waiting for communication from the platform on what will happen next. I truly hope this can be resolved quickly and fairly.

Ntebo is a fantastic educator

Ntebo is an educator and you can see that skill shine through in how she teaches the language.

Her pride in her culture and love of her language radiates throughout .

There is no wrong way to speak a language and in order to speak you just have to speak , that's her motto. I'm thoroughly enjoying time with her exploring this language .

zero transparency, no service, and no refund! Fraudulent organization

Terrible experience. I paid over a month ago for two lessons, but the teachers never showed up. I contacted the company and asked for a refund, but nothing — they hide behind unclear terms and have a pushy attitude, only caring about taking your money without providing any service.
Absolutely no transparency, no professionalism. Avoid them — they only care about your money.
The result is that they are taking my money as they will be with your money.
Many reviews like mine on internet about this kind of company.
It is a SCAM!!!

Beware – No Refunds, Misleading Terms

I signed up with Tutoroo to take English lessons with a specific tutor I selected. After payment, I was informed that the tutor was not available. Instead of refunding my money, Tutoroo insisted on giving me “credits” and pushing me to accept another tutor.

When I requested a refund, they repeatedly refused, citing their “terms” that say they will only provide a replacement tutor, not refunds. This was never clearly stated upfront and completely ignores consumer protection laws.

The reality:
• You pay for a tutor of your choice, but that tutor may not be available.
• If this happens, you cannot get your money back — they keep your payment as “credit.”
• Their terms are used to block refunds, even if the service you paid for was never delivered.

This is a very unfair and misleading business practice. I am now forced to file a chargeback with my bank to recover my money.

I strongly advise anyone considering Tutoroo: be very cautious before paying. If your chosen tutor isn’t available, you may be stuck with “credits” and no way to get your money back.

Great platform for finding students…

Great platform for finding students quickly
I joined Tutoroo in July 2025 to teach Quran and Arabic online. The signup process was straightforward and my profile was approved in just a few days. Within the first week I received two students from Europe. The website is easy to use and the support team responds promptly to questions.

One area for improvement could be the commission fees, which feel a bit high for new tutors. Overall, though, I’m satisfied with my experience and would recommend Tutoroo to other tutors who want to start teaching online.
