Very communicative and feels really safe.

I really appreciate how easy it was to find a great tutor in the language of my choosing. The tutoroo team is very helpful with matching you to people near you and was very communicative during the entire process. They even make sure the first couple of lessons are going well. Their communication really added an extra layer of safe-guarding which feels important during this day of “meeting strangers from online.”
I’m really glad I used tutoroo.

Best tutor app

I really like Tutoroo because they respond to applications and messages immediately giving suggestions too, which I have not experienced in other teaching apps.

Avoid – Paid ¥24,000 and Never Received a Single Lesson

Update Sept 4 2025:
Tutoroo took the time to reply to this review by not to my emails ahah. The tutor they're mentioning below called Misaki never replied neither. This website is definitely a scam.

"I paid ¥24,000 upfront for a Japanese tutor on Tutoroo. After payment, the assigned tutor never contacted me, never responded, and zero lessons were delivered.

I tried to reach out to Tutoroo support multiple times. Instead of refunding me, they kept insisting I use the credit with a new tutor — even though I clearly asked for a refund due to non-performance. Their policy states payments are non-refundable, but this contradicts basic consumer rights, especially in countries like Japan where undelivered services are legally refundable.

I’ve now had to consider filing a complaint with the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan to get my money back.

Tutoroo might work if you get a reliable tutor. But if not, they leave you on your own. You pay first, and hope someone shows up. That’s not acceptable in 2025.

Use at your own risk."

Lack of transparency…

I did not like the lack of transparency between Tutoroo’s automatic charges and the rate advertised by individual tutors. I understand the system now, and it seems a reasonable one, but I very nearly did not sign up as a result of your automated payment system as I thought I was being swindled.
No complaints about my tutor.

Tutors are great but company fails to follow its own policies

Tutors are great but company seems unwilling / refuses to give refunds even when it is in their stated policy. Tutoroo say they protect students and tutors by refunding some amount of money in certain cases, but it has taken 2+ months in multiple instances and I know of some that are STILL not resolved. There are multiple reviews on here saying the company fails to give refunds when they should.

Someone needs to take this company to court because this probably isn't even legal in most jurisdictions, and not adhering to your own policies is certainly is not an appropriate way to run a business. Absolutely appalling. Tutors and students are both definitely losing money that is owed to them by Tutoroo. AVOID or just contact the tutor directly and bypass the platform.

Edit 12th Aug, after Tutoroo response: Actually I haven't shared personal details for fear of retribution (i.e. Tutoroo may shadow-ban the account). Tutoroo would not need to ask for personal details if they simply did all their refunds properly. The fact that Tutoroo have to ask indicates they have SO many refunds that they don't even know who they owe money to. There is an earlier review by Lukas who has been waiting since Nov 2023 (and still waiting as of 7th Aug 2025) - that's almost 2 years waiting for a refund!!!! Unacceptable! Why not just refund everybody like your policy promises?!

am your tutor

am your tutor, which it is very difficult in finding students via your agency and? ,why because of your T&C, DOES Not work with me, how can you ask the client to pay 2 weeks to you and pay he 3rd check to tutor or teacher, now student does not have money to continue who is the winner and who lost the time, WIFI, and electricity , energy to explain very good to the student to understand better the lessons. my suggestion is you just take out your fees and leave the rest to the teacher or tutor. what are your fees?

Tutoroo as an opportunity

With no experience, no certifications needed, as long as person who knows the language Tutoroo accepted me as an online tutor. I feel like I'm not left behind, for those who doesn't have any certifications as well and are looking forward to teach online. Tutoroo is giving an opportunity for us, and this reason alone makes my experience great. I'm really looking forward as a new Tutoroo member!

When you need support

When you need support, the Tutoroo team are very responsive and give great follow-up. You know there's a human at the other end of the keyboard and that, for me, marks them way above other platforms. They also have great students who are more engaged than on other platforms.
