About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Incredible care received.

We cannot thank the team at Vets Now enough for the outstanding emergency care they gave to our dog, Opie. He was admitted with severe immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (IMTP) and a dangerously low platelet count. From the moment he arrived, he received not just expert medical treatment, but true compassion and kindness. Opie needed blood and plasma transfusions, chemotherapy (vincristine), and specialist medications like romiplostim. It was an overwhelming time, but the team kept us informed every step of the way. They answered all our questions patiently, were honest yet hopeful, and always made us feel that Opie mattered to them as much as he did to us. Every update showed that they knew him, understood his needs, and were giving him every chance to pull through. Thanks to their care, Opie came home to us. He’s eating, walking, and rebuilding his strength day by day. We know the road ahead includes follow-up care, but the fact that he’s home at all is a credit to the dedication and skill of everyone who treated him. The bill was significant but the value of having Opie back with us is immeasurable. We are so thankful to have had the support of a team who treated us with empathy and treated Opie like family.

Rabbit misdiagnosed and ended up dead

Went on on Saturday with my rabbit as my vets were closed. Got told she had a sore back even though she has a temperature and was not eating. My rabbit who is only 1 year old then had to be rushed back in on Sunday as she was swaying, going round and circles in her transport cage on her side. She had completely lost her balance, couldn't stand up, wasn't eating or drinking and anyone who has had rabbit knows that a rabbit jot eating is an emergency, was told on Sunday they weren't concerned about her not eating when I called. Was also told when we arrived we would be seen soon as all vets had an emergency and all nurses where assisting. Had to go back up to the desk as my bunny was trying to break out of her cage and looked as if she was going to really hurt herself as she had no balance at all to be told someone will see her soon. They waited until my rabbit was having a seizure in her cage and I shouted for help. Was clearly too late at that point as she went unconscious and was gasping for air. They then tried to save her which could have been prevented if they had given her the right treatment. She clearly didn't have a sore back and was suffering from some kind of infection or virus. The vet then had the cheek to come out and ask if she dies would we want them to try resuss on her but she wouldnt have a quality of life!! Why ask when this would prolong her suffering. The vet then returned 5 minutes later to say she died while they were trying to get an iv line in her. They were meant to be stabilising her for 10 minutes and still couldnt get the line in her!!! Lost my bunny and £450+ down what a disgrace of a vets they should be closed down!!

Our Labrador, Jack

Our Labrador, Jack, became very ill on a public holiday weekend, when our usual vet practice was closed. We contacted Vets Now Glasgow who agreed to see him straight away. From the moment we got there the Vets Now team could not have been more accommodating and helpful. The vet, Xavier, was very thorough, sympathetic and listened to our concerns. Jack, unfortunately, had to be kept in after various tests revealed he needed urgent treatment. Next day, the Oncologist Vet, Pamela, did more detailed tests and, as Jack was still poorly, he was kept in another night. Unfortunately, Jack has been diagnosed with Stage 5 cancer. Naturally, we are devastated. However, the support we have received from Vets Now has been outstanding. Everyone at the hospital is helpful and sympathetic and we are so grateful for their expertise and support we and Jack received. The reception staff are amazing and even take care of all the insurance admin for us. We will be commencing chemotherapy soon, given through the hospital, and we are so thankful for Pamela and her team, all nurses and reception staff in their efforts to give Jack the best possible treatment in his remaining time with us.

We cannot recommend Vets Now enough. Paul & Morag

Supportive and Caring Staff

I was referred to Vets Now in Glasgow when my dog became poorly during the holiday weekend. There was a chance of an obstruction in her intestines so I was very worried. Every member of staff were very supportive and professional. My dog is a rescue and very timid with new people, but she was treated with great care and patience.
I can't fault the treatment we were both given. Everything was explained to me and no question I asked seemed to be silly to them.
I had a follow up question the next morning and received a call back from one of the vets promptly. My query was answered and I was given reassurance that I was doing things right.
Overall an excellent service from everyone at Vets Now. Thank you!

Hi felt it was a waste of time and money.Vet we saw had broken english and said my dog had a slipped disc, and gave her methadone for her pain ,told me to go to our on vets in the morning,my poor dog was up all nght crying. We went to our own vets in the morning ,the ran lots of test and said it was neuroligical problem,we took the decision to put her out her distress .So what was that all about a slipped disc ,she didn,t have a clue ,£242.00 for nothing ,wish i hadn,t bothered taking her there!!! This was the Glasgow North St Vets and we live in Dumbarton which cost £30 each way in the taxi ,would happily pay it again if i felt they even helped my poor dog ,but not even sure they even examined her as your not even in with them .all said and done not impressed at all.

The staff were great

The staff were great, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable as well as patient with my dog who is not great with strangers. They kept me well informed on Ruby's progress and prognosis as well as keeping me up to date with costs. I felt that Ruby was very safe in their hands, I was well prepared for bringing gher home and after she was discharged they were great at answering questions over the phone. Couldn't ask for better service.
