We had an absolutely awful experience at the Deak Ferenc Tér store. We wanted to buy a simple Pay As You Go SIM card and assumed that we would be able to do so cheaply and quickly. We were wrong.
We waited in the store for almost an hour and a half with very little communication. We were just told that there was a problem with their system and so we patiently waited thinking things would be fine after a few minutes. We were asked for a surprising amount of personal details and eventually were charged different prices despite buying the same SIM card. All very suspicious, especially after reading reviews here where it seems other foreigners have had similar experiences of dishonesty. After an hour and a half and with no apology, we left with our SIM cards feeling quite annoyed but at least we managed to get what we went there for, right? Wrong again.
After three months, we were sent huge bills (almost HUF30,000 each) despite having already paid HUF 20,000 in the store and hardly using our phones as we were at mostly home all day. Phone records will clearly support this. We told the lady very clearly that we wanted simple Pay As You Go plans and we realised when we saw this bill that she had actually sold us a one year contract. We were furious as we very specifically told her that we didn't want contracts because we weren't sure how long we would be staying in Hungary. This to me screams of blatant dishonesty from the store.
We complained immediately and gave details including the store worker's name. The man on the phone was very understanding and agreed with us that it was very suspicious that we were charged different amounts for the same plan. He also told us that he thought it would be resolved and that we shouldn't have to pay, and in fact should be compensated, but we'd have to wait up to 30 days for the investigation to be carried out.
That was seven weeks ago. Seven weeks without a working phone. We have tried to call several times to find out some details but we were never given any information and just rudely told to wait.
This morning I finally received an email saying that the complaint was not justified because they don't record conversations in stores, and that we would have to pay the outstanding bills. Pathetic.
My feeling is that this store works in a very dishonest way and looks to cheat unsuspecting customers. It's been a complete waste of time, money and energy and I've been left with nothing but a phone that doesn't work and a huge, unjustified bill.
Honestly, from the moment I walked into the store until now has been by far the worst customer experience of my life.
Avoid Vodafone!
Our internet has been broken or extremely slow most of the time since Vodafone bought UPC. Their 4G mobile internet is absolutely pathetic - it is slower than internet access was twenty years ago. Stay away from this pathetic service, everyone! Switching service providers asap!
I don't know why they bought Landline…
I don't know why they bought Landline services from UPC and vodafone doesn't have proper customer support at all. There is no other way to contact them except the hotline no. It doesn't going through technical person at all, Just IVR, just giving excuses through IVR. NO proper service to people who are from UPC and home networks having lots of issues.
Bad customer service at a Westend, Budapest
Cancelled my phone contract in store in December 2019 as I was leaving Hungary, with them saying my account would be disconnected within 24 hours and my final bill will be went to me.
Apparently they didn’t disconnect my account at all, and have been billing me for the last 4 months even though I haven’t used the account since last year.
Another example of their customer service was my first contact with them to set up an account - I walked in to get a number and the girl said as I didn’t have an address card, I couldn’t set up a contract and could only get prepay. I went back the following day and was able to sign up to a 12 month contract without having an address card.
Another instance was I would pay my account in store as my app wasn’t working properly. Never had any problems paying in store for the first few months, and then one month I went in to pay and the lady said there would be an additional charge for me paying my bill in store... what?! Ridiculous. I told her I’ve always done this and never had any extra charges and she said she has to charge me. Went in the next day with no problems.
Average for me.

Poor offering
Terrible website with incorrect information (particularly the English version).
Almost impossible to use on mobile. Arguably, they have mobile apps, but they're just as pitiful; very limited, and flaky functionality (see app stores for rating and comments).
