On Monday, 9 February, I visited Waves Hand Car Wash Basildon (Tesco Mayflower). When I returned to collect my car, I was told to wait another 10 minutes. However, when I came back, the staff informed me that they had accidentally given my car key to another customer who had already left.
They then told me that the customer was not registered in their system, meaning they had no way to contact them. I was asked to “wait a few days” in the hope that the person might return.
Today is Thursday, 12 February—four days later—and I still have no update and no key.
Although the staff noted the registration number of the other vehicle, it is not legally possible to obtain the owner's details from that information, so the situation remains unresolved.
In the meantime, my car could be accessed remotely by whoever holds the key, and I have been repeatedly told to “wait” without any clear plan, or urgency. Waiting indefinitely is not a solution, especially when my vehicle’s security has been compromised.
The team mentioned they might arrange a replacement key, but even if they do, the original key—now with an unknown person—would still unlock my car. That is not acceptable.
This incident highlights a major security issue in how keys are handled. If a key can be handed to the wrong person once, what is stopping it from happening again?
I strongly advise others to be cautious about using this location until they implement proper key‑handling procedures and take customer safety more seriously.

Had booked a Gold level clean in Aylesbury. On arrival, the staff pointed out that there were muddy footprints on the mats which would need a much deeper clean and cost extra. I asked them just to do what they could, it doesn't need to be perfect, and they agreed. When I returned, they'd done a really good job nevertheless, car was clean on the outside and they'd worked hard to get it as good as possible inside within the time they had. My only slight regret was that just as I was about to drive away, they sprayed the inside with a chemical freshner / finishing spray which made me cough with eyes streaming, I had to pull over on the way home because of a coughing fit, it was such an irritating chemical spray. It would be really good if Waves offered this as an option which customers can choose (or not), rather than just spraying it as a default, we've left the car doors wide open all day to try and clear it. I would definitely recommend this car wash and staff, but will make sure I tell them in advance not to use whatever that spray is. I think it should be optional.

I’m sharing my personal experience with Waves Hand Car Wash (Waves Car Washes) to warn others before investing.
In 2022 I invested around £40,000 of my savings into one of their car wash sites. I was told the site had only been closed for a couple of months due to COVID. After taking over, I later discovered it had actually been closed for over two years — something I was not made aware of before investing, and I would not have gone ahead if I had known.
The business was presented as a good opportunity, but in reality it was extremely hard to make any money. Despite my efforts, the site was not profitable. As a franchisee you are tied into a long-term contract (I signed five years), which makes the situation even more stressful when the numbers don’t work.
After I left, the site was resold, and I later spoke to the next operator who also struggled financially.
I lost my savings and went through serious financial stress. My advice: get full trading history for the exact site and speak to multiple current and former franchisees before committing.
This is just my experience, but I would never make the same decision again.

I agreed £30 for an inside valet and was told to return within 45 minutes. I checked the car and found issues where things had been missed, within compartments and inside the boot particularly. Honestly, I thought I’d have done a better job, but the workers were nice. However the manager was appalling, immediately claiming that £30 doesn’t provide this sort of service, and then said “when I return he will charge me double” - safe to say for a quick vacuum and a wipe I’ll save that £60. When I said, look, I’d rather not write a bad review but point out the problem with your attitude (to the manager), he started repeating himself, didn’t address his attitude and said “I don’t care” several times. So, use this place if you don’t care either. But if you do care about professional standards and an honest job, look elsewhere.

The car wash guys seemed nice but I didn't think it was the best. Windows inside not very clean and a strange white marks to bumpers that the main guy couldn't be bothered speaking to me to check and commands another who came over to help and said it was an issue with my car!! Definitely wasn't. Tried to resolve but quite reluctant. Left with issue. Won't bother again for the price and result.

Willesborough Tescos Ashford. Friday 23rd in the afternoon.
Now the 24th. Just got back into my car a day after it’s been washed and noticed that a six pack of pink lady apples and a box of tissues has gone!
I keep them on my front seat for driving between jobs.
Now I’ve got to go out and replace them.
Last time it was one sweet from an expensive tin. Now this. Just take the effing car why don’t you.
Bunch of thieves.
AND you haven’t cleaned the inside of my boot window properly. It’s a pile of smears that I’ll have to do again.
Be better.

I am now using Waves at Blackpool Tesco, once a month for a deep clean. For the price, I feel their service is very good. My car always comes back spotless after covering 4k miles a month!
Would heartily recommend!

Told my wife the car was medium instead of small.
Only £2 but a scam is a scam
I've used them in the past, but after having car cleaned last week. Will not return.
Inside wasn't done very well at all.
It was a cloudy day, but the next day was sunny and all the cleaner still left on the inside of windows showed up.
Had to clean them again before driving in the sunshine.
A patch of the bumper laquer is now coming off. This could be from pressure washer being too hot or too close.

I had two cars booked in last Friday in Warrington , for two full valets.
This was the first time we had tried your service after years of using our usual one which had closed down and are looking for a new permanent place for our fortnightly cleans inside and out. Much to our frustration, both cars upon inspection when we got home didn’t have the boot cleaned. When you pay for a valet, you then do not expect to have to get out the hoover when you get home to carry on cleaning the vehicles. Not only this but there were still areas missed on the dash and several things missed throughout. This is extremely poor and frustrating especially as we were hoping this would become our regular place to visit. It was clearly rushed with no care or pride in their work, ultimately leading to us having to come home and clean the vehicles ourselves
