Flew Edinburgh → Toronto → Nashville. Our two checked bags were misplaced in Toronto and didn’t reach us for 3 days (arrived Sunday). We filed the report within 1 hour. In the meantime we spent over US$1,000 on new outfits for a wedding, phone charges chasing updates, and basic necessities—plus one suitcase arrived damaged.
WestJet then offered just US$444.80 with no itemized breakdown, and told us transportation and phone charges aren’t eligible, despite their own website saying they reimburse reasonable expenses directly caused by delayed baggage (with receipts). They also haven’t resolved the damaged suitcase.
We provided every receipt and photo and asked for a clear breakdown—still not sorted. After the stress, the three-day separation from our luggage, and an opaque, inadequate offer.
We would NOT recommend WestJet to anybody. Probably the worst company we have ever dealt with. Even after all of this, and the terrible offer they have yet to compensate us for the enormous hassle they have put us through.

Requesting Reimbursement for Tickets
Online check in did not allow us to check in and instructed that we do it at the airport. At the airport Westjet was unable to access my husband's approved eTA and as a result we were unable to board the flight. We had the Support Package Premum - Add-On, Travel Assist - Visa & Passport Assistance coverage by TripMate Insurance. We submitted a claim and was denied. This is not fair and we expect to be reimbursed for the $902.00 US tickets price. Westjet should assume responsibility for the problem with their system that was unable to accept the eTA. We have only received a form letter denying our claim. Please readdress this matter and be fair.

West jet operates Sunwing…. They should have left well enough alone. The flight back from Cayo Santa Maria was the worst. The flight attendants where rude to say the least. The pilot told passengers that the cabin would remain cold and that passengers should dress accordingly. The landing, well that pilot should go back to flight school. No clapping….what does that tell you. Surprised the tires didn’t explode. If you don’t like what you do, find another job!

My wife and I booked Premium seats. Website lied and said something was wrong with her credit card, tried another, same thing. Started over and Westjet wanted, wait for it, 3 times the original cost.

Have been flying with Westjet happily for years until this week. Our direct long haul flight was delayed by 2 days. After hours on hold Westjet finally agreed to move us onto a flight departing on our original travel day with a layover. Unfortunately there was no way we would ever make our connection. We were not able to check in before arriving to our connecting airport and when we did arrive we were informed that the check in counter had closed before our flight was even scheduled to land (we landed early and still didn’t make it in time). Then came another hours long conversation on the phone being passed to multiple representatives, being told there is nothing they can do, that we should have checked in before we got to our connection (even though we tried on the app and in person at the airport and it was impossible) and that we would have to pay for our own flight because we were a no show, even though they had booked us on a flight we didn’t have any possibility of making. On top of all that both of our checked bags were lost (they also had no chance of making it on our connecting flight). Eventually we were put on another flight but only after hours of persistence and being put on hold. We were left feeling like Westjet had changed our flight to get us off their backs and then were ready to completely abandon us when that didn’t work. Extremely disappointed and will look to avoid flying with them again. There is clearly a systemic issue where phone representatives do not have power or authority to actually assist and instead try to wear the customer down by putting them on hold until they’re desperate enough to give up.
My direct flight to Calgary from…
My direct flight to Calgary from Heathrow was cancelled. I was given another flight for the next day via Chicago. What west jet failed to tell me was that I would need an esta visa to travel via Chicago. This can take up to 72 hrs to process so why they gave me this flight I do not know. So missed my flight, they put me down as a no show and cancelled my return flight. I then had to pay £1.500 to fly the next day, £200 to re instate my return flight and another night in a hotel . Trying to get hold of them is a nightmare. No email address and the uk number just cut you off. Will never fly either them again.
Worst customer service ever.
I’m a platinum member unfortunately. Got in the phone for half an hour on platinum line to explain that I need help with tech problems several of our employees are having connecting to onboard wifi. “Yeah sorry” was all the rep would say. Not willing to look into any departments or ask supervisors. This is the typical response you get from them. We need a US carrier in this country and quit protecting useless union workers.
terrible experience! voucher didn't work/no reimbursement
after a 3 hr delay (no compensation, because the connecting flight waited for us), after waiting 1.5 hrs in a plane full of crying babies and upset passengers, in a 35C heat, with no AC (for whatever reason, to save fuel or so, we were told AC can't be turned on, but also doors were closed, so we were literally sweating buckets), we were sent BACK in the airport (reason for delay we found out, the co-pilot took another flight!!). We were given $25 vouchers, which did NOT work. So crew told us to keep and submit vouchers, to be reimbursed. I did just that, after a lot of back and forth with Wesjet, they said will reimburse IF I show them the voucher. Huh?! I threw it in the garbage, as I was told it's not working, so I spent $30 and got zero back. Westjet did confirm the delay/issue so.. what the heck!? What does the Voucher prove, if they already know it was a long delay, and also that that flight gave vouchers to the customers. Unreal. Not necessary the amount (though I wouldn't have spent that, after already paying thousands for the flight), but the principle of it. Why would I ever submit a food receipt, unless I was specifically told that? and nobody mentioned "keep the invalid voucher) :( Not fair.
Very disappointing with WestJet…
Very disappointing with WestJet Vancouver client manager Chris Ceasar and her assist Manager Parminder. They are the worst support ever. Almost made to miss our flight that we have to check our kids bags on a return leg of our flight. The bags would fit under the seats for kids seat but was denied boarding because it had rolling tires but fit perfectly
Pleasant flight experience
I travelled on Saturday, Sept. 20th on Westjet 2521. Tanisha, the flight attendant was very friendly. attentive, intelligent and witty. These are services we used to see 30 years ago.
With services like this, I would consider flying Westjet again.
Worst airline in the world
Worst airline in the world! No service, no alternative offered. Just left at the airport with my 85-year-old mother. All because the staff was untrained, unprofessional, and uncooperative. I had to book a new flight at my own expense and received no replacement. Horrible and traumatizing. Should have been a nice vacation on Kauai. This ending is nothing but TRAUMA!

I am waiting to check in at YZF. I have been waiting for an hour already and have longer to go; there are not enough agents to process the passengers. I got to the airport at the recommended time, but have been watching all the passengers for the flight before mine be processed. It's not a good experience, and not conducive for me to fly on Wrstjet again. I don't understand why there was this huge backlog...perhaps they did not open the check-in counter until too late?

Update 25/02/2026 status quo nothing happening CRT says approx 7 months to opening a file. Wonderful the public are the ones holding these companies afloat on our money interest free. If they are made to pay up they get the deal of a lifetime interest free and absolutely no penalty for screwing the public over or a fine to help pay for CRT staff and time …WHAT A DEAL can I finance my next car with the CRT ?

Update 22/9/2025 - after two separate online chats with WestJet staff they failed to assist me and denied me access to a manager or supervisor. Apparently they are unsupervised and when I requested a manager contacts me at their convenience I was told they were not able to do that ! It is very obvious that customer care is non existent I will UPDATE this as it continues until the issue is resolved …. Stay tuned !

Truly the worst
Truly the worst. Many examples but my most recent - had my flight cancelled, reimbursement was not approved. I paid for extended comfort, which came with a carry on. They booked me on a flight the following day and made me pay for a carry on bag. No reimbursement of the extended comfort I paid. Non-stop to multiple stops plus added costs of hotel and transportation. Airlines can do whatever they want, things have to change, especially the ones that are purely exploitive - WestJet is the worst of the worst.

we just signed up for their westjet rewards program ad I booked flights to their new service in Reykjavik only to find out their new ultrabasic fare DOES NOT qualify for any kind of points. well, from now on, I will book with who ever is cheaper. I would have booked with you often, but now you have blown it. don't bother signing up for that silly program, They only wanna cater to the rich, not us!
Rude, Unsympathetic Air Hostesses
I flew from Toronto to Edinburgh on the 21 Aug 25. Despite requesting gluten free food when booking the flight, none was available. The air hostess very bluntly said that they did not cater for food allergies on 737 flights and quickly walked away, this despite the fact that the in flight food menu displayed gluten free food. When I complained to the chief air hostess, her excuse was that West Jet were a budget airline and therefore only offered a very limited range of food. Not a great response given that I was on a long haul flight and nothing had been said when booking. Funny that Jet 2, Ryanair and EasyJet all cater for dietary needs even on short haul flights and the first two companies also use 737's.
Received the second flight change for…
Received the second flight change for our trip in February 2026. The first change moved the departure an hour later. The second change moved it another 15 minutes later. We now arrive at 5:00pm. By the time you get through the airport and taxi to the hotel, it will be 7:00pm. Thanks for wasting the first day of our winter vacation.

Would like to really express my heartfelt thanks to the two very nice ladies of WestJet Flight 168 from Vancouver to Edmonton on Friday, August 15, 2025 who somehow showed care & attention to me when I entered the cabin of the B737-700 sweating profusely & kind of feeling light headed. One of the younger stewardesses kept asking me how I was every time she passes by my seat. So thankful for the care & attention I was given even for just a cup of water. Thank you very much.
