Poor on-time record; poor information flow; lack of customer support.

5/5/ flight segments delayed in my flights with Westjet. No information provided on the reason for flight delays. No coordination with partner airlines when flights were delayed

Checkin problems each time. Tried to go to the airport a day early to check-in but no staff at counters. Tried to check in online but get error messages each time. Help desk cannot fix the issues.
No manager available. No customer service escalation available. Up to 13 hours now wasted time dealing with issues. Lots of extra early mornings to check-in since I cannot resolve issues over the phone or on-line.

Avoid WestJet, there are other airlines flying to Canada

I've been flying WestJet between California and Canada 12+ times a year since they started flying to SFO. They are hardly ever on time and changed my flights many times without a timely notification, and many times they did not notify me at all. After my last experience I will never fly WestJet again. They canceled my flight from San Francisco to Vancouver 2 months before the departure date but did not notify me till the date of departure (WS1775, July 2/25). I was transferred to a flight to Calgary with a connection to Vancouver. That flight was also late, so I missed my connection. The guest service lead was exceptionally rude and refused to assist. While at the airport in Calgary, Instead of being assisted by the WestJet staff at the airport, I had to call their customer service to get assistance. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident. In 2023, I had to wait for 2.5 hours for my luggage at Gatwick. They lost my luggage countless times. I will never fly them again. I just reg

Exceptionally poor customer service and no accountability

I’m a Canadian living in US and been using WestJet for years to go to/from Canada. The service has been continuously deteriorating, but I was foolishly loyal till the last experience. Purchased two airfares for WS 1775 from SFO to YVR scheduled to depart on 7/2/25 at 2.45 pm. The flight was cancelled on 5/2, WJ did not notify us will 7.11 am on the day of departure. We were transferred to WS 1509 / WS 125 to YYC with a connection to YVR. The departure from SFO was delayed by more than 5 hours due to ‘delay in scheduled maintenance’ as per WJ text message. We missed the connection to YVR. My spouse was transferred to 10.30 pm flight to YVR, but I was transferred to 6.00 am flight the following morning! When brought to the attention of the customer service lead in Calgary, she was exceptionally unprofessional and disrespectful, and refused to help. I had to call customer service to move me to the same flight as my spouse. We arrived to Vancouver with more than 7 hours delay. On the return flight, they lost my luggage, but the WJ agent was nowhere to be seen at SFO. I had to wait for 2 hours for him to show up and deal with the issue. We were entitled to refund due to the departure delay being over 3 hours. However, WJ has put multiple obstacles that I figured out that it might be easier to give up and stop flying WJ. Never, never again!

What a waste

What a waste. A word of advice - NEVER ever go to there flights. Btw long review.

Me and my family were so excited to go to Mexico city for vacation like our flight route was simple, only two flights but our first flight was delayed and that was when where thing started to go downhill. See, we only 1 hour to go to next flight but the delay was like 45 min so that means we can't go to our next flight. They had the AUDACITY to book our next flight after 2 day without any accomodations. Oh did I mention, the reason we were delayed was because the flight crew couldn't be on time. We would be in Mexico city for like 3 days and move to Cancun so that means we only had like half a day for Mexico city. We called like every guest assistance but there answer were simple: we can give you a hotel to stay but you have to wait for the next flight. We were furious and eventually they actually searched and found a new route. We had to go back where we started and go to Toronto and then to Mexico city. It took us like an extra day but ok this was better. But this is where it gets worse. We went to Mexico city and waited for our luggage but it wasn't there. And they told us that it was in the place where we started. We got very furious and they told us it would come tomorrow and guess what. It hasn't arrived. We called aero Mexico and WestJet and they are saying they don't have our trolley. We are still in Mexico city but in the same clothes and and we don't know where our luggage went. WESTJET is the worst.

I hate this airline

I hate this airline. Delay after delay after cancelation after delay. We have never been on a WestJet flight that was not delayed or cancelled. Stranded in airports . Worst airline in the world and we have flown on many airlines around the world.

Anyone but WestJet

Completely disorganized, staff seems to be guessing most of the time, cancelled my return flight with a day notice and even though I had to return late they decided to pack me an my wife in the sardine cans they call airplanes on opposite sides of the plane with the excuse that the flight is full and to sit us together they would have to charge us over $100 each. Check in is a mess, you have to lineup but you can be part of whatever line you want because there is no sense of order at all for this "company." The only way they can improve it by disappearing and starting again under a new name because WestJet is only synonym of unreliability, irresponsible and overall customer dissatisfaction, that's what WestJet excels at, screwing customers left and right.

Downgraded from first class

Booked months in advance. Received an email that I was being downgraded from first class to economy. Have to wait until after the flight completes to get any compensation. Tried to check in 24 hours before flight, can't check in with Delta, must go to West Jet directly even though booked through Delta. Their app is broken and I can't set up an account. Went to their website and filled everything out. It found my reservation but when I was ready to complete the check-in it errored out and said to show up early at the airport and not to call them. Not looking forward to the flight experience.

WestJet is the WORST

WestJet is the WORST. My daughter had foot surgery and had a huge cast on and crutches, and she went to the gate and said, do you want me to board early because I'm really slow having just had surgery, and they looked at her and laughed and said, you want to board early because you have a sore foot??! WestJet is evil. I reported them and they said, so what? What do you want us to do about it?

Unfair and rigid refund policy

We booked a flight for an employee who resigned before travel. We submitted all required documentation and requested a refund to the original form of payment.

Despite multiple follow-ups (email, chat, and phone), WestJet refused and insisted on issuing a Travel Bank credit, which is useless to us as a non-Canadian company. We cannot afford to book fully flexible fares for all employees, and most other airlines at least refund airport taxes back to the original payment method.

WestJet ignored emails and offered no flexibility or understanding, even in a reasonable situation. Very disappointing.

WestJet's Predatory Charges Have Gone…

WestJet's Predatory Charges Have Gone Too Far

As a budding journalist, I've travelled the world, rewriting a myriad of stories. For the past nine years, however, I’ve been loyal to one airline, WestJet. In fact, I’ve clocked more than 70 flights per year with them, building what I thought was a solid relationship with the company. Little did I know that my latest experience would shatter that trust and leave me questioning not just WestJet’s commitment to its passengers, but the integrity of the airline industry as a whole.
It all started on July 25, when I booked a flight for an exciting trip to Japan. We were scheduled to depart on May 9, 2026, according to the WestJet app, and the expectation was that we would land on the same day. The flight information seemed straightforward, until I received the confirmation email, which revealed the sobering reality: our flight was actually set to land on May 10. As expected, we’d crossed the international date line. That’s when the trouble began.
We were booking this trip with a sense of urgency. The May 9th date was crucial, as we needed to be in Japan to pick up the keys to our apartment. Our plans were locked in, and this discrepancy threatened to disrupt everything. So, like any reasonable customer would do, I immediately called WestJet to request a change. Surely, I thought, this could be resolved with a simple flight adjustment.
But then came the shock: WestJet demanded a staggering $300 per seat to move our flight one day earlier. That’s right, $300, for a schedule change that would hardly require them to break a sweat. And remember, we had already paid for these tickets using points, which made this cost not just annoying but downright painful.
At first, I thought I had misheard. Surely this was a mistake. I had been a loyal customer for years. I’ve flown with WestJet on an average of 70 flights a year, spending countless dollars in the process. But no, they insisted it was policy. Apparently, because we hadn't booked a "flexible" seat, we were bound to this outrageous fee. When I tried to challenge the cost, their response was cold and bureaucratic: "It’s just policy." No empathy. No acknowledgment of our long-standing relationship. Just a predatory demand for $600.
But here’s where things get troubling: after a little digging, I found that this exorbitant charge was nowhere on their website. There was no mention of a $300 seat change fee in the fine print. This is a company that deliberately hides such crucial information, knowing full well that most customers, like me, will only find out about these charges when it’s too late. By then, they’ve already booked their flight and are stuck between a rock and a hard place. WestJet, it seems, is banking on customer ignorance to pad its pockets.
This lack of transparency is not just unethical; it's predatory. Why are these fees not disclosed upfront? Why aren’t they made clear during the booking process? If I had known about this fee in advance, I might have reconsidered my choice, or at the very least, I could have made an informed decision. Instead, I’m left feeling trapped by a system that profits off its customers’ lack of awareness.
I’m not writing this just to vent my frustration, though believe me, I’ve had plenty of moments of that over the past few days. No, I’m writing this to challenge WestJet. I’m challenging them to reconsider this greedy and unethical practice. If WestJet truly cares about its customers, they need to stop hiding behind obscure policies and start being transparent about their fees. We, the loyal customers, deserve better than this.
To WestJet, I say this: You’ve lost my trust. $600 for a simple schedule change? That’s not just a policy; it’s an insult. You can do better, and I hope you do, before you lose many more loyal customers like me.
Until then, I’ll be looking for an airline that treats its passengers with the respect and transparency they deserve. And trust me, there are plenty of options out there.

First time on WestJet

First time on WestJet. 19-July, Atlanta to Vancouver - The 737 was great. It lacked the usual electronic entertainment, which common on other airlines, even in 1st class. Fine, I read a book. Other then that, the trip was good. Coming home on 26-July, Vancouver to Atlanta was another story. WestJet ticketing in Vancouver was an absolute cluster. I never want to fly on WestJet ever again. However, sitting in row 4D I was surprised by our steward Kristy/Kristi (not sure of the spelling). She single handedly salvaged WestJet's reputation. Great person, great sense of humor even after 18 years in the biz. OK. My rating is low, the lack of electronics and the cluster at the airport in Vancouver definitely rate a "0". She brought it up to a "3".

Cancelled and delayed flights

This is my first time to travel to Vancouver with my family. We bought our tickets many months ago and planned our detailed itinerary. We received an email that our flight got cancelled and have an option to rebook with a layover at Calgary instead of our direct flight to Vancouver. Since we have the evening to resume with our itinerary, we proceeded with Westjet. This should have been a sign to drop this and get our tickets from a different airline.

Our flight has been delayed multiple times and moved from one gate to another. We were supposed to arrive at 6:30 and now at 9:10pm. We spent the whole day at the airport.

FLIGHT 125 FLTWJX

If you plan to buy your tickets at Westjet, cancel any activities and expect to arrive at a later time.

Changed my flight without warning,no notice,no help

WestJet completely ruined my travel plans and showed no accountability whatsoever. I booked flight WS1103 (PNR: LKYXPH) from LAX to Toronto for July 19, 2025, scheduled for 11:10 PM as a direct flight. I arrived at the airport with my wife and young child—only to discover the flight had already left at 6:00 PM with an unexpected layover in Calgary.

I was NEVER informed of this major change. No email, no call, nothing.

When I contacted WestJet, they simply blamed the third-party agency (JustFly). But JustFly confirmed that WestJet never even notified them and had to open an investigation. Meanwhile, we were left at LAX with no support, no options, and no apology. WestJet’s own gate staff had already left. I was told to pay thousands for a new flight out of pocket—which I couldn’t afford after losing money on a rental car, hotel reservations, and transportation.

My family went through an extremely stressful night, and WestJet made no effort to help us. The lack of responsibility, communication, or basic customer service is appalling. WestJet cannot be trusted. I would strongly warn others: Do not fly WestJet if you expect basic reliability or accountability.

Will Fly Again

As a regular traveller, I have yet to have a poor experience with Westjet. I think some blame their own errors on the airline, or perhaps expect too much. Decent airline...all in all.

Scammers

What happened? They used to be the best now they are one of the worst. Talk about a scam. We booked a 10-day vacation 7 months ahead. Just got notice they have already cancelled our return flight and moved it from the Friday to the Saturday. Spent over 2 hours on the phone waiting for a rep, only to be told that we now have to pay almost $600 more to stay the extra night. Nice way to try to get extra money from people. Will be cancelling and booking with another airline, even if we end up having to pay more. I used to only fly Westjet. Now I will avoid them like the plague unless there are absolutely no other options available.
