Below is a direct quote from Yelp's website. They hid 39 negative reviews of a business because they felt like they weren't 'helpful'.

"Great Yelp reviews and ratings should come from consumers who had a great experience that they’re inspired to tell others about."

The thing about reviews is that some people get perks for leaving positive reviews. On the other hand, if you're really mad at a company, you can leave dozens of bad reviews and maybe convince your family and friends to leave bad reviews. It's a crap-shoot.

My experience with Yelp Advertising has…

My experience with Yelp Advertising has been extremely disappointing.

I enrolled in a Yelp advertising program after being offered a promotional credit and was led to believe I would have a clear understanding of the costs and performance of the campaign. Instead, after canceling the program, I was presented with a bill exceeding $1,000 and have spent months attempting to obtain a detailed explanation of how that amount was calculated.

Despite multiple requests, Yelp has failed to provide a complete reconciliation showing:

• The specific services delivered
• How the promotional credits were applied
• Detailed invoices and account ledger information
• Documentation supporting the final balance claimed
• A clear breakdown of advertising performance tied to the charges

What has been most frustrating is the lack of transparency. Yelp continues to state that the balance is correct, yet has not provided the documentation necessary for me to independently verify the charges.

The dispute process has been slow, difficult, and largely unproductive. Escalations resulted in the same generic responses rather than meaningful answers. For a company that serves small businesses, I would expect a much higher level of billing transparency and customer support.

My recommendation to other business owners is simple: read every term carefully, monitor your account frequently, document every conversation, and obtain written confirmation regarding cancellation policies and promotional credits before spending any advertising dollars.

After this experience, I would not advertise with Yelp again and cannot recommend their advertising platform to other small business owners.

Better yet, don't do it.

They lied about how they charge

They lied about how they charge, when they charge. After I had canceled my service. I continued getting leads that i couldn't respo to. Then they billed me again for the leads I no longer had access to respond to. At the time I'm writing this, I've been on hold with customer service for 1hr and 45 min.

Terrible. Best avoided.

Terrible. Aggressive website constantly trying to push me to use the app.

Unreliable results as well. E.g. search on churches in Waterford and it comes up with Killkenny and Wexford in the list.

The landscaper never showed up. He kept messaging after making a time for arrival, but then messaged that he could not until later and never showed. I had changed and rescheduled several appointments to be here to meet up with C&E. I decided just move on.
Very disappointing.this went on for about 3 days.

As a business owner

As a business owner, I called Yelp to ask them about a review from 9 years ago, which Yelp states " review was removed due to violation of terms" yet the review is still posted on the main page. Yelp as usual was rude and dismissive and came up with some non-sense excuses. On a different occasion, we asked them why one of our real patient's review is "not recommended" and the man said AI selects which review to show.... funny how they love showing the few negative reviews and always hide the positive ones. Last incident is that someone wrote a review for a different location (not ours) they even named a doctor who works at the other location, totally provable by the website and Yelp refused to remove it or even just post it to the correct location. Horrible, evil, and arrogant company with a God-complex.

Review of Clilton Autobody Shop in Oakland

I want to recommend the Chilton Autobody shop on Shattuck Aveune in Oakland. I have been a customer for years. Last week someone scraped my car's front fender leaving white streaks. I went into the Chilton shop and the manager, Ramon Miranda, took one look, got a rag and some magic solution and cleaned off all of the paint scrapings. He would not let me pay him for his fixing my car. I would recommend this auto body shop without reservation.

I ordered a Boston Marathon certificate advertised in the Boston Herald. It apparently "comes from" a ghost company called Run Ink. I spent $30 expecting to receive a paper certificate but all I got was an email with a file telling me to print out the certificate myself. Herald customer service will not deal with the problem and "Run Ink" cannot be emailed, the phone number the Herald gave me just rings busy and Bing maps does not show a physical location for "Run Ink". Do not order these certificates the Herald is selling.

Very Frustrating

Very frustrating. Yelp used to be a site that you could rely on when you had the need to give a review about something. Not any more. Since it like most sites now rely on algorithms instead of human involvement. Most reviews don't get published. If you do too many negative reviews the system flags you. So even if your reviews maybe negative you're denied a forum for rating an entity whether it be a business or even mental health center. If you are being judged by artificial intelligence and that is the criteria for judging whether someone or something is legitimate then nothing will ever come to light and businesses and facilities will never be held to a higher standard or accountable.

Lost my confidence!

Wonderful breakfast - cooked to individual order from a menu. HOWEVER - BIG HOWEVER:

This place completely closes at night. There is no one running the show. If you have an early flight - you're screwed because although they will check you out early. The elevator is locked up from 1 to 7 AM.

1. You can check out early. However
a. The elevator is locked up from 1 - 7 AM.
b. SO IS THE STAIRWELL ON THIS 12 Story Building. Note, I didn't check any other floor, but the stairwell door on the second floor, yes from the inside, was locked. I would strongly suggest the legal enforcement officials of the Building Standards Act and the Fire Service Act of Japan check this situation out.

This situation means there is no way for you to leave the hotel to catch an early flight. We discussed this concern with the mgt and they said they would send someone in ("a girl") to unlock the elevator, allowing us to get our bags out of the room and leave in at 5 AM which is what we wanted.

The hotel staff acted as though it was really unusual for them to have people that needed to check out early. Really? No one stays there that needs to catch an early flight? I could hardly believe it! Like I said earlier, they had to make a special arrangement for "a girl" to come in and let us out.

By this time they had lost my confidence, I was supposed to stay in limbo the entire evening and night and hope the "girl" makes it in. There was no relaxation in that thought, so I checked out availability in the Sansui, a sister hotel, and moved my wife, my eight pieces of luggage and myself there, just so I could relax a little before my long journey back to the States the next day.

JBU Shoe Company did not stand by their product.
I purchased a pair of shoes in October, 2025. In March, 2026 the sole separated from the shoe. The company claimed that the shoe was "out of warranty" and refused to refund or replace the shoe. I purchased the shoe for $75. I am extremely disappointed in the policies of JBU and think that they should stand by their inferior product.

Maytag service directed me to VIA…

Maytag service directed me to VIA Appliance Repair to fix my Washing Machine. It was throwing an error code that I gave to the service technician when I made my appointment. They ordered a part before ever looking at my machine and cancelled my appt without notifying me. They rescheduled the appt for a week later when the part came in. The technician came and replaced the part, but it did not fix the problem. He diagnosed the issue and informed me that I needed a different part. I paid a total $331.33. He came back a week later with the new part. He installed the new part, but again it did not correct the problem. He then advised me that the issue could be any of several other parts, but he was not sure. He wanted me to pay for another part, wait another week, and let him "try" that. He could not tell me with any degree of certainty that this next attempt would fix my issue. In fact, he told me it could be one of several other parts including possibly the mother board. Part of the $331.33 I paid was a $139.00 Diagnostic fee. Since they never diagnosed what was actually wrong with my washing machine, I believe they owe me $139.00, however, VIA has told me that fee is non-refundable. The technician was very nice and polite, but he was not able to diagnose the issue, nor could the several individuals he called. They just wanted to keep trying new parts (by the way they won't order parts unless you pay for them in advance). Beware of this company. They claim to repair many appliances but all they are really doing is looking at a tech manual and attempting to diagnose your issue, they are not specialists in anything! Buyer BEWARE!

Yelp will remove reviews to those who pay

I complained that someone had left a negative review about my small business and that it was unjust because it was a person that didn't like me personally and had a vendeta. The review had nothing to do with my business. It was only a personal attack against me. When I asked if it could be removed, the agent stated that I had to pay, by paying a membershipt fee. That way I could get any review removed in the future instantly. They wanted me to pay them to remove reviews. What is the point of this website if they are dishonest and biased to those to pay?

Frustrated with Yelp Bull!

"I am a business owner and Yelp has completely failed me. A vendor I hired — who was NEVER my client — posted a retaliatory fake review on my business profile after I refused his offer to pay me to change my honest review of his services. I reported this to Yelp with full details. They told me they would handle it. They didn't. My follow-up contacts were ignored. Yelp recently updated this fraudulent review in 2026 — actively refreshing false content they were already notified about. When I formally requested removal, they denied it with no valid explanation.
As a business supporting other businesses, you would think Yelp — a platform that exists solely on the credibility of reviews — would understand the importance of due diligence. With over 6,000 negative reviews and a 1.2 rating on their own platform, clearly they don't. They are failing the very businesses they claim to serve by allowing unverified, retaliatory reviews to remain posted without proper investigation. Yelp does not protect legitimate businesses from outside parties who have zero client relationship with that business.
I am now escalating to the FTC, BBB, Ohio Attorney General, and CFPB. Businesses beware — this platform will allow anyone to damage your reputation with zero accountability and zero consequences."

Koalifi leasing / payment scam

The reason for this review is to bring to the public's attention the poor business practices and scandal around the leasing terms of a company called Koalifi.

Each month I continue to have automatic deductions come from my bank account and pay additional credits to pay off a lease.

There happens to be a payment error that continues to occur. For example; On May 15th, I had a scheduled payment come from my bank account in the amount
of $190.10. I then made a secondary payment in the amount of $700.

I took a screenshot of the payoff amount on the 15th which showed a payoff amount of
$489.69. (see screenshot below or above).
Today, on May 18th my account shows a payoff amount of $756.72.

This type of thing has been happening month after month. I'm hoping that they will please correct this error immediately.

I've written emails to their email and attempted to use their chatbot to no avail. I spoke to a live person by phone but they absolutely do not know what to do.

I recently posted a review online and…

I recently posted a review online and it was a legitimate review and truthful. When you review a company then it is your experience and whether it is a good or bad review a business owner should not come back to you confronting you in any way that is unprofessional. I had a business owner not only reply to my review online but to message me as well through email saying that I was bashing her company online and was nagging me for information as to who the experience was referring to. Yelp is a waste of time and there are reviews that are rated at 1 star with the customer's experience and yet those reviews are not targeted by some crazy rude response online. Fair practice is when you're not doing your job as a business then you need to shut down your business.
