The course itself was okay - though it did feel a bit out of date.
The online systems were painfully inadequate and the customer service has been abysmal... I completed every part of my course but had to re-do one assessment. When I called in, they had lost all of my details and my work, so I emailed them everything and scanned in all of my written work. They mixed up my information with other people's (they sent me emails addressed to other people). Since then, I have tried to contact them numerous times to sort this out but nothing has been done, they have said they will look into it and get back to me but I've heard nothing. I'm now being told that too much time has elapsed and there's nothing I can do.

The YMCA name and reputation is what makes people trust their courses and providers, but sadly my experience did not live up to that trust.
A lot of the complaints and disappointments I’ve read from others are actually true and very accurate. I was on the ETM course, and while my course tutor did try to help, the overall support was very inconsistent. The workload was also overwhelming at times, especially for people studying online.
The Aptem platform feels outdated and unreliable, yet towards the end of the course they constantly chase you for work and deadlines. Support should be accessible, clear, and consistent throughout the whole course, not just at certain points.
Overall, this course and organisation were a real disappointment. Personally, I do not feel it was worth the money or the trusted reputation attached to the YMCA name.
I also raised a complaint and was met with endless emails that never really addressed the issues. The support team were vague, unhelpful, and often seemed just as confused as the students.
When people sign up for a course, they should receive the support and experience they were promised. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me. I would honestly recommend looking elsewhere — somewhere that genuinely supports your growth, helps you feel accomplished, and values your time and money instead of leaving you feeling ripped off and constantly chasing for help.
I would give it no stars if I could.
Please avoid!

I had a great time with YMCA Fit! The online classes were nice because I could go at my own pace, and what's more enjoyable is that there was a variety in teachers, formats, and lengths, so it never got monotonous!
But the in-person part was my favourite, we were taught by Abbee Cole and she made learning about becoming a personal trainer even more fun, she was very kind, an effective teacher and kind, as she always was willing to help me out when I was stuck, so I would message her over teams and she'd be quick to help with any questions or work I was stuck on! I was very nervous at first, but attending this course has made me feel as if I have the skills and knowledge to become a personal trainer, whilst also being a good time!

I attended YMCA Fit's Olympic Weightlifting hybrid learning course in April. There was some online study before the course, and a 90 minute virtual session on the first weekend which was very informative and set the structure. This prepared me for the following weekend where I attended face to face sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
The venue was great. The classroom was accommodating and the gym had Olympic lifting facilities which supported the workshops. Glen, our tutor, was clearly knowledgeable in both theory and practical delivery across both days.
It was a great course and has given me a strong foundation to build on for my journey into Olympic weightlifting as part of my ongoing professional development as a personal trainer.

An amazing experience with the Olympic Weight Lifting course! Glen is a PT and Tutor with many years experience and it shows in his delivery.
Excellent value.

I really enjoyed my experience with YMCA yoga course.
My tutor Annie Vincent was very knowledgeable in Yoga. Annie is supportive and approachable throughout the yoga course. I only wish we had more face-to-face time with her as I found the in-person sessions really helpful and engaging.
All of the staff were supportive and genuinely wanted learners to succeed. Clare from student support has been incredible and guided me when needed.
There is a lot of self-study involved, so you do need to stay motivated and organised but overall it has been a positive and rewarding experience. I’m glad I did this course.

The course tutors and content were fabulous. I would say the initial ‘sales’ call was a little misleading . I was not informed that I wouldn’t be issued my certificate until the student loan was fully repaid which would be some time after I completed. I also feel that the hours of work required outside of the face to face time was hugely understated . It worked because I signed up but it made it quite stressful juggling work and keeping up with assignments and obviously I’m sad to have to wait for my certificate now that I have completed the course .

I love this yoga training course at the YMCA. From the very beginning, you can feel that this is not just a class, it’s a real community. Our teacher, Annie Vincent, is absolutely amazing. She teaches from the heart, with so much passion and genuine care for every single person in the room.
She takes the time to explain everything clearly, so you don’t just follow movements, you actually understand yoga on a deeper level. You can feel how much she loves teaching and sharing her knowledge, and that makes such a difference.
Every Sunday feels special. We all come together, support each other, and it honestly feels like one big family. You feel welcomed, appreciated, and seen.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone. It’s not just about learning yoga, it’s about being part of something meaningful. ☘️🙏

Trevor made the face to face experience really excellent. The gym itself in Brighton has some disadvantages, especially the “classroom”, that has no natural light or ventilation. Overall, enjoyed so far.

the face to face was great, trevor was a great tutor and explained everything very clearly and thoroughly. the online stuff is very confusing though and i definitely think that could be something that could be improved on.

The ETM course was far from boring even for an experienced teacher and choreographer. Industry recognised qualifications that open doors to sports science educated learners through its professional, thorough, inclusive and effective content. Huge shout out to Danielle, for her welcome and support and another huge shoutout and thank you to the Product Lead, Lesley. Lesley is probably one of those irreplaceable employees, so long may she reign over with her astute instinct, professional guidance, vast range of skills, and patience with tech issues as they arise.
Although technical expertise is one of the prerequisites for undertaking the course, I believe an additional module for troubleshooting would be a welcome addition to the existing modules.
Would feel very confident deciding on CPD going forward as there are plenty of options to progress learning through the Levels for those considering growing their knowledge. Well done YMCAFit, you had my full attention and I looked forward to every online session in the online version of the course.
If there was any additional comment to make apart from the tech issues on zoom, it would be to extend the duration of the final section of the course by 2 more weeks so that all learning could be implemented into the final class plan with more time for considering its content prior to submission. Otherwise, it truly was an exceptional experience with collaborative personnel, very fair assessors, whose feedback on valid points to submitted work was knowledgeable and on the mark. Totally worthwhile and very affordable tuition without travel costs involved in the online course. I probably need to sign off now in case anybody is yawning. But there you go, that’s it in a giant sized nutshell! Wonderful experience! Thank you, very grateful.

I really enjoyed the course and the content was very helpful! My tutor Lesley was great, very supportive and easy to contact. We did face some technical issues with the online course and I feel it could have benefitted from a webinar prior to the live sessions.

I have been doing the ETM course with Lesley and she has been absolutely amazing, very helpful very understanding and there to help me when ever I need. I would defiantly do more courses if she was to be the tutor for it. The course itself online is very difficult with the music on zoom and had issues with the sound and was a bit stressful on times but Lesley was very understanding very efficient when I needed help. An amazing tutor.

I recently completed a First Aid course with YMCA, and it was a really positive experience. The course itself was well-structured, easy to follow, and delivered at a comfortable pace, which made it accessible without feeling rushed.
A big highlight was our tutor, Trevor. He was friendly, approachable, and very easy-going, which created a relaxed learning environment. At the same time, he explained everything clearly and made sure everyone understood the key concepts. His teaching style really helped build my confidence and made the whole experience enjoyable.
Overall, I came away with a solid understanding of first aid and feel much more prepared to handle emergency situations. I would definitely recommend YMCA courses to anyone looking to learn practical skills in a supportive environment.

I've just completed my in-person training for an ETM course and it has been a great experience. It has been challenging at times as there is also a lot of theory to cover but everything so far has been extremely professional, thorough and easy to follow. We had the most wonderful group of people on our course and the tutor, Adrian is amazing! He is very friendly and made us all feel so welcome and at ease. He is incredibly knowledgeable and very patient with our endless questions. The last 5 Sundays have been such fun, memorable days! I highly recommend these courses and will definitely be signing up for more once I've qualified!!
