Enough is Enough!
Enough is Enough!
Our business with 1a contracts has been ongoing since February. For us like many others have fell victim to the mess the company is facing.
I’ll try condense a 9month process without going on and on as I could be here all day with the shortfalls of, misleading information, lack of hr/ admin and customer service, the cheek and audacity of continued lies, dates not met, going against their word and promises not met and refunds not received.
Again I could go on and on but I won’t. What’s the point. They couldn’t run a kids birthday party.
Back in feb we were told 6 weeks paper work 6 weeks build max. Couldn’t be any further from that if they tried!
Obviously in august when the investigation started it only got worse from there, frozen accounts, stuck in limbo, reading every other review, not knowing what to do. Absolute nightmare.
Was booked in twice prior to having a third time lucky date scheduled for the foundations on the 15/11/21. They had us booked in for July foundations and hadn’t even got the SER certificate yet! How does that even slip through the net. How is planning permission 6 weeks as told but it took 14 weeks.
That said my partner and I decided to take a hit, give 1a an ultimatum and cut our losses and terminate the contract agreeing only half our deposit back. They agreed to give £1500 back.
The contracts not worth the paper it’s written
on. Haven’t delivered on what was pitched back in feb. 1a contracts tried to change the payment method that was agreed in the pitch and tech survey by his former colleagues back in feb as payment of a deposit there and then and two final instalments of the money agreed on COMPLETION of stages two and three. However given the circumstances the company face 1a contracts wanted the money before starting stage two and the final payment before stage three. How can you change the goal posts from what’s been agreed?
Now my contract was for £19996 without the vat it was £16667. (Had £3000 of paperwork to get this far ready to build) my question is this, how can they build my project for £13667 minus vat when since the rigmarole and shambolic ongoings with this company back and forth of lies started in feb when I’ve had more than 5 different builders come and quote my SER certificate drawings in the last few weeks stating between 34-40 thousand.
We’ve pulled the plug on our business with 1a contracts and gave 1a contracts what I feel is an easy out. It’s impossible to build our project on what’s stated on the contract and at a massive loss we’ve even have a proposal that gets us something back and much better position for 1a.
That was agreed. On the basis of £500 in three instalments on 12,19 and 26th of November. I’m yet to receive a penny so far.
1a contracts told me last week it all depends on how much they take to allow refunds to be made but assured me and gave me his word the week prior was a bad week and I would definitely receive a payment 19th of November. Yet Again didn’t receive anything.
I’m just so done with this. Gave them an easy out and still can’t meet what they say.
To this point we’ve spent £3000 on paperwork and 1a have £2970 of our money and we’ve only asked for £1500 back.
We can’t even build our project as the REAL price to build this is 35/40 grand! Ridiculous.
Scammed out of this whole process from the start and as I’ve spoken to 1a’s former employees personally, I don’t believe these people are bad people but I do think they should be held accountable for some of their part to play in not only my ordeal but everyone else’s. They are selling a pipe dream that’s never going to happen. I do question 1a contracts as a business, continuing to lie and put everyone through absolute hell.
More than happy to show every email, txt since feb as I’ve not made any of this up and it’s nothing but the truth. They even had the cheek to phone me mid week and say a refund couldn’t be paid until after Christmas after after being told they would sort a refund.
NO MORE EXCUSES! Transitional period, investigation, frozen bank account, covid, mental health problems, bad week financially, company are struggling, I really couldn’t care less. There is no reply that could compensate the pain and stress aswel as the financial hardship put on me and my partner. Don’t think he realises what he’s done to people and it’s not good enough. Spent over 6 grand and can’t even build the project. All I’ve got to show for this is a piece of paper to build in the future which will not happen for many years at mid35/40 thousand (THE REAL PRICE TO BUILD THIS) to that end we will be back to square one with applying again for planning permission!
Thanks for wasting my time, my money and selling us something that was never possible to do! Pay me my refund and let’s be done with this.
I’m going to the police!!
No work done and no refund!
No work done and no refund!
Following two visits from a salesman and then a fitter, I paid a 30% deposit of £1,795 via bank transfer on 15th April for a bathroom renovation. I was later visited by another two different fitters who confirmed the work would be done. However the agreed times of August, then September, then October, came and went with no work. Since then the fitters have left the company and also the admin team have left the company. My emails are no longer being answered (despite requesting a refund) and the phone numbers no longer work. I think its safe to say I have been conned out of my money as the company seems to have folded! Such a shame for all the staff who were honest and lost their jobs, but completely unacceptable for all the customers who have lost their money and time with this sham of a company. The owner should be held accountable!
I have already written a review
I have already written a review. Have submitted three emails as per consumer advice before going down the legal route. No response to acknowledge these however finally was told today that they would call after emailing admin and another email address from 1A who had sent me a message asking me how much I'd paid so far. No phone call today and no response from email or text. They were to call me after my work. I have provided them with several solutions to move forward with my build and that's why I thought they would call however as you know, no call. It does not appear that this company is interested in putting right situations that they put people in. I'm still sharing a bedroom with an eight year old boy. My twins and my 8 year old still don't have a living room, bedroom or kitchen. In to the mix qualified tradesmen are reluctant to touch a botch job incase it comes back on them. So despite 1A contracts knowing that I was ill and was struggling with my health, was a nurse working through this pandemic and was assured by their manager that work would be done within three weeks. . I've got One income coming into the house and a part time one they still ripped me off and are not trying to resolve the issues. As I said I have provided them with solutions. Problem with installers for my windows. Well get my windows manufactured it ll take weeks by that time you should have a work force if not give me my windows and door and I ll get them fitted myself. Provide me with the manufacturers contact details and evidence that you have paid and I ll take it from there.also provide customer with an address in order to serve legal papers if necessary this has been refused as has a phone number.
Totally gutted that I ll need to pay for a damaged kitchen for 4 years and my life savings are blown.
This is a true account and I'm willing to provide evidence that this is an accurate account. Written without prejudice.

Utterly disgusted
I don't usually take to social media to air my grievances but felt justified to do so in this case. I was foolish enough to be taken in by all the bull Crap hype if this company and now sadly I'm am £6400 worse off. Emails, including a couple of breach of contract letters emailed with no response. I have been in touch with TSS and urge others to do the same. I also have been in touch with the Police. This money was hard earned , and sunroon was a treat to myself after working right through nearly two years of utter c××p in a hospital. Due the right thing and refund !!

Try your bank for Authorised Push Payment (APP)
Fraud if you paid by direct transfer. It's a scam so the banks should pay from their scam fund

Do not hire this company. They will relentlessly hound you with cheap quotes. They are a pariah, waiting to gobble you up with their cheap sales antics, the prize being your hard earned money. Roof installed by them is worthless, the workmanship absolutely shoddy and guttering system absolutely redundant.
Avoid them at all costs. They should be prosecuted and never be able to trade again.

In reply to coment a day ago I am certainly not please with a big crater left in my garden by 1A
And i do not believe you or anyone else would be. I paid my money and did not get a service anything like you are claiming if myself and others had! then there would not be reviews you are commenting on .
Brilliant company which does great quality work
I had friend who used Steven Hughe's company and she was absolutely delighted with the perfect work done. The guys were punctual, couteous and tidy.
She was well satisfied with work from this company she got all the right vibrations right from the start.
Steven Hughes has a business model which is both pleasing to my friend and quite rightly has led to him being a very successful businessman.
My friend said that she was disappointed that some people have said they were disatisfied in reviews as her experiences and the resulting work she enjoyed was in her words "perfect."
"There's no pleasing some people" were her words.
I wonder what excuses mr Stevie Hughes…
I wonder what excuses mr Stevie Hughes will have now after the recent newspaper articles on him and his skullduggery.
Beware of this absolute fraudster
Scam, don’t give them a penny !
I have been trying to get my conservatory since oct2020. They done my roof and recently tiles came of and I was told to sort it myself. I was advised by a roofer that it was below standard and that if the weather got really bad there was a whole section of tiles that will come down. Had my roughcast to the front of property only (still waiting in the bad) done and there was hailstones after completing and how areas of concern. They done a strip foundation for conservatory and left my garden in a shocking state. I don’t know how these people involved sleep at night. Let’s hope he gets prosecuted for his action. It will be interesting to see what happens now the 30 days are about up. Not that I holding onto much hope.
DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY A PENNY!!
Been trying to contact them since June and still no joy.
Been waiting on our new windows which should have been put in at beginning of the month but all communication has been ignored.
Have informed trading standards
Avoid, avoid avoid !!
I am sadly yet another victim of this company. Unfortunately, as with many others I have lost money and am living in a building site that I need to find funds to fix. However, do not let them get away with this ! There is lots of advice here and on other online sites. How these people sleep at night is a mystery to me. With all the hardships that people are having to face currently, only the lowest of the low would be defrauding people of their hard earned cash !!
*This is an update as of7th Oct 2021.In the below I had said my flat roof was to be done and this was completed today by Garry.I will pay my balance today. The company came through.
I am a honest reviewer and in no way related to this company or anyone in it.
I had done my due diligence of this company and checked them out before I went with them.
I had several meetings and received a contract before I finalised and made any payments.
I was asked to give a 30% deposit prior to them starting the work but by this time I had received four home visits from the sales team, the contracts and the surveyor.
I had an issue and sent an email as I felt the lack of communication between the contractors and the admin staff was terrible and I had no clue what was going on.This was a complain that I had read on these reviews before. This was the only complaint that I seen.
Within the time of sending the email and being contacted by Steve was hours and I had the contractor for the bathroom at my house within two days.
The work on my bathroom was started and completed within a week.
I have another part of the contract that was to be done and that is my flat roof and I wasn’t supposed to pay the rest of my bathroom until all the work was completed.
I received one call regarding payment and I explained that the jobs were not complete and they said that was fine and would be in touch regarding the rest of the jobs.
I decided to pay the balance less what the cost of the flat roof was and no-one hounded me regarding this.
I made this choice as I work in finance and understand basic cash flow.
I then have read these reviews and began to become concerned regarding job being completed and I called Steve number direct.
I thought this number will be disconnected but nope it wasn’t but he didn’t answer as his line was busy.He did however text me to say he would call as soon as he could and did so within ten minutes. We have discussed finalising the contract and will see what happens but in my opinion apart from lack of communication I have received what I have paid for.Tried to post a before and after pic but wouldn’t let me as proof.
Horrible B*STARDS
If I could take starts from these A**HOLES I would, took £19,500 off my grandmother, as many of the other reviews say, she had no contact from these people, no emails or calls, no response to her attempting to contact them, also has been battling to try and get a penny back from them which she still hasn’t, the fraud police are investigating and hopefully shut these horrible people down.
Fraud
Signed up for a new kitchen, conservatory and flooring.
Paid up nearly 50% of the total sum and still nothing! Minimal response to my calls, messages or emails with excuses!
Very quick in taking people's hard earned money.
Iv got contracts, cctv footage of the guys coming to collect money from my house and pictures of those who signed me up.Along with text messages from a number of receptionists.
After writing this review they responded by asking to email them direct which I have done so but once again more excuses.
Police Scotland are now investigating!

Have paid GBP 13,200/- as deposit for a conservatory that was supposed to be installed in August. These guys should be taken to task. They cannot escape free after cheating so many of us. Absolutely disgusting!
