Totally shocking

Totally shocking. Poor workmanship. Never turned up half the time. Wouldn’t recommend. A so called joiner doing brick work, electrical work and roofing. I could probably have done a better job. Do not touch this company.

Hi Mr Garbiarz

I can confirm 1A are very much still here and still taking emails and responding to customers. our accounts have been restricted due to the below and that has had a profound affect on the business. Email admin@1acontracts.co.uk and like always you will get a response.

This absolute hell we've been placed in has caused many people to leave the company and jobs not been due to start therefore this has snowballed very quickly since Coutts post and trading standards questionnaire sent out to customers who HADN'T complained. Now family members, my kids, ex staff etc are being named online. Like I have said you have all been contacted, most has had some work done and didn't want to wait anymore and I am still committed to resolving ALL issues however your review does not help you or anyone else issue it add to it and potentially causes it to worsen. Again email admin@1acontracts.co.uk and we resolve this amicably and keep communication open.

Three months ago it was brought to my attention that Trading Standards had sent out to my customers a questionnaire regarding, what they perceive to be, services provided by my company. In addition to those questions the people to whom the questionnaire was sent, were asked to confirm if they would able in the future to give evidence in court, as potentially there was criminal conduct carried out by persons representing or running my company.

Somewhat alarmingly the questionnaires did not even ask questions relating to services that 1a Contracts provide. This seemed to me to show that Trading Standards when preparing the questionnaire had little or no information as to what business 1a Contracts was involved in. Accordingly, it follows that there could not have been any complaint made directly about 1a Contracts which instigated the issuing of these very damaging questionnaires.

The suggestion made within the questionnaire regarding criminality has had a massive effect on my business, the consequences indeed could be fatal to my business. I do hope that this is not the case, and I wish to resolve all matters in relation to alleged complaints and I hope to have my business running again, the way that it was some weeks ago.

At the time the questionnaire was issued I had no active complaints which deposits previously paid had been requested and there certainly was no intimation by any lawyers acting on behalf of any customers about services provided or the conduct of myself and anyone who works for 1a Contracts.

Any previous complaint made against my company since the company commenced, had been dealt with expeditiously, as much as it could be and all matters had been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.

Since this questionnaire was issued and since the posting by Trading Standards on their website numerous jobs have been cancelled. I have received a number of text messages about people wanting deposits back but I have not received any legal correspondence or formal request for monies to be repaid and I have not received any detail from any customers as to what the difficulty is in respect of any particular job.

I have had sight of various comments made on social media, comments which relate to potential threats to myself and indeed one person has chosen to make some remarks about my very young children namely being Mr Coutts. I have however had emails from Mr Coutts who tried to use this investigation of my company to their own benefit with an attempt to try to extort money from me against a background of further threats. When this extortion failed he started his campaign of hate.

Because of the nature of the investigation of Trading Standards and others involved in the investigation they have placed upon my business a complete inability to operate properly. This means that I cannot complete any jobs that are due to be completed. I cannot return funds to anybody, not only because I don’t know who these people are and what the basis of their complaint is, I am simply unable to access all the relevant areas of my business due to this investigation. I am unable to pay staff. I am unable to pay bills due to be paid by the company. Accordingly, the knock-on effect of this investigation means that I cannot deal with any complaints that may be intimated or allegedly have been intimated properly and accordingly, the investigation is preventing me from dealing with these matters as statutory law dictates.

In addition, the irony is, that this investigation and the way that is has been handled may well be the ultimate disaster for people seeking to have their deposits returned, because if my business cannot resume operating normally within the next couple of weeks quite simply the business will collapse and my company will cease trading.

My solicitors having been made aware of the complaints after the posting on the website of Trading Standards wrote to Trading Standards, requested that they provide details of the complainers and the complaint itself and in order that they could liaise with me with a view to resolving all matters. Such information would allow me to deal with complaints properly under statutory law. Trading Standards have refused to provide such details of the persons who have made the complaint, what the complaint is, and how matters can be resolved to the customers’ satisfaction. So effectively, we are in a position whereby Trading Standards have sought to destroy my business but won’t tell me what the complaints are about and won’t allow me to rectify matters which may save my business and return any monies, if due by the customer.

Since May 2020, 1a Contracts have completed 371 jobs successfully and started 46 more. Up until Trading Standards questionnaires were issued jobs were completed by 1a Contracts as close to the relevant promised or intimated timescales as conditions would allow. As you will be aware, as a consequence of Brexit and COVID-19, there has been difficulties with the obtaining of materials and a labour shortage. We had managed to navigate these problems to some degree of success but like every other builder in the country there has been some difficulty. This of course appears to be something that could potentially be lost on Trading Standards at this stage, if indeed delay is part of any complaint allegedly made.

My website has been down due to the fact that I require to pay bills to have this kept in operation. As intimated above, I cannot pay any bills just now relevant to my company due to restrictions placed on my company by the investigation. I am wholly committed to resolving any problems with customers and I am anxious to be allowed to continue on with my business in the manner that it was trading before. My ability to help any customer with any complaint is being reduced on a daily basis. The inevitability of restrictions on my business being able to operate will result in the business having to close and any customers having a great difficulty in having their complaint processed properly and potentially monies returned.

It may well be that as a consequence of social media, Mr Coutts posting about my children and address and the sabotage recently since account went on hold that the company ceases trading. Should that happen then liquidators come in and a small % goes back to anyone owed funds, Would it not be better to try allow the company to trade out this mess that we have been placed in so we can complete the jobs and issue refunds as and when and if due.

On social media I am being tortured for not dealing with demands for monies when in actual fact most of the complainers have been spoken to and

1A are committed to completing all jobs on their books and issuing refunds as and when able to and if/when due. Clients have signed a contract written by commercial solicitors and as such those contracts are legally binding. Timescales etc are the difficulty we’re met with as well as the ongoing investigation fabricated by trading standards.

Please email admin@1acontracts.co.uk if you wish and we will communicate that way as oppose to making it more difficult publicly.

Complete scammers

We have has the same treatment like everyone else, last October we had 1A to give us a quote for sun room..after agreeing with the price and paying 1st instalment we heard nothing from this company..we had to contact them continuously, then in March they done the foundations..never heard anything for 8 weeks so called again, they sent 1 guy out and he advised that foundations were all wrong! We have been messed around that much we cancelled the contract..after months of phone calls we were promised full refund of £7400 as only paid 2 of the instalments ( should have been 3 when work was finished) the 28 days came and went..we were calling and calling everyday and eventually after another few weeks they gave us back £5400, said the rest of the money would go into my bank next day as they can only hand out so much everyday..I know i am one of the lucky ones to get some of my money bck but will still need to fight for the rest..Steven Hughes and the rest of that company should be ashamed of themselves for treating people this way..do not go near them!

Lost £2600..

We decided in February 2021. to build a child room extension at side of the flat. So we started to search a company who can help for us to build up our dream. We have found a website which name of Bark who recommended us 1A Contacts Ltd. So we're contacted with them. We showed the location and he said they can build it up for us and they gonna make all the paperworks so we have "just sit back and wait".
He asked about the land around the house but did not ask the ownership paperwork which shows the information about the land and do not ask copies.

Unfortunately on that time we don't know that land is shared and we can not build on it nothing a Solicitor said.

Than he showed the quote about £22000 and he said we have to pay £6600 deposit if we sign the contract. Than we're agree that and sign on 23.rd of February 2021.
On 24/Feb/2021 we got a phone call from the office they would come and pick it up the deposit a day after.
So we had to rush to the bank to pick it up the money by cash on 25/Feb/2021.

( Why they're want cash and not bank transfer???)

Another man from 1A Contacts Ltd. visited us and took the £6600 deposit cash in an envelope!

(They are took the deposit so quick because they said the materials price will be growing due BREXIT but if we pay now the price is guuaranteed.)

After we paid the deposit start our nightmare with this company.
They are promised to send an architect drawer company within a week but this is not realized. On that time we had to call several times them but they dragged their time until the cool off period ended wich was 14 day's from signed..

Finally 7 weeks later from signed visited us the architect drawer on 12/04/2021 who was very helpful and qualified. Before he started to make a measuring ask the ownership paperworks and after he read it he said not clear for him if this land is ours or not on the ownership so he suggested we have to speak a solicitor and ask them about the title of deeds replace and boundaries.

We called the office several times to solve this big question about the land but they were not helpful..

After we find a Solicitor who were able to help for us in this case we got the answer on 07/05/2021 wich was sadly we're can not build nothing on the shared land.

Then the phone consultation with the builder company they said we have to fill the cancellation form and send back to them and wait 28 days which was ended 09/06/2021. So we called them and a woman from their office said we can not get back nothing..
I got SHOCKED.. what? Than I just told her our story and she's said I have to send her a photo copy about the ownership paperworks and they're look into this.

Thats great nearly after 4 months they want to see the ownership paperwork..
Why they are not do that in February before we paid £6600? Why they're not visited us during the 14 day cool off period and checked these documents? They are not start this job, not sent us invoice about they bought anything, no one visited us from the date they took the money by cash in an envelope.
We do not get nothing from this company except a lot of stress.. and they do not want give us refund.

So we went to a lawyer..
Their fee is (£2000+VAT plus the court procedure) so that's why He's would urge us to contact the citizens advice bureau or/and the police first..

On 30/June,
I wrote a bad review on trustpilot and 1a contracts are started to contact us.. it wasn't easy period also because they are promised if I took off my review they will pay us back £4000! So I took off my review and wait nearly 2 weeks and I called them every day but nothing happened so I uploaded again. Then they're promised second time if I took off my review they are give me back this part refund within an hour!
Finally I got back within a day £4000. I'm really sad because to know that we can not build nothing on that land cost me hundreds due I had to ask a Solicitor about the land, because 1A Contracts Ltd. did not do that. Plus 1A Contracts Ltd. said because the architect drawer visited us that's why we do not get full refund (£6600) only part refund £4000 so I lost another £2600. I thinking this is not fair.. We do not get any architect plan from them so I don't thinking this is the price for nothing...

Summary:

1 visit for a quote and 1 visit to take the deposit and 1 visit from an architect who did not make the plan before we ask a Solicitor about the land he said.. cost me £2600..

Thats really not fair..

I have to delivering 520 hot foods for that price and this is not a joke!!

Avoid from this company..

Hi Mr Rogers, we spoke last night and agreed a resolution so please keep emails to admin@1acontracts.co.uk and we can continue to communicate as thats important so you are updated regularly.

Hi Mr Rogers, you have stated we’ve vanished off the face of the earth??? We spoke to you on Thursday evening, we responded to your review Friday and are responding again now. We are very much still here and are committed despite what people are saying to fulfill all jobs and/or issue refunds as and when able to and if due. For every bad review we’ve still got 10 more jobs on the books that we are committed too.

Despite what your letter says I can assure you no funds have been taken out the account from 1A since 9th August. We expect the balance in said account to be issued any day and that allows us to move forward and resolve everything. You’ve recently laughed at staff when we’ve called you too yet you say we’ve not spoken with you or disappeared.

Please email admin@1acontracts.co.uk and you’ll continue to be responded too.

Hi Mr Rogers, it’s the right thing to do to communicate through this and that is what we intend to do.

Mr Rogers, you said “vanished off the face of the earth” you then when on to admit we spoke to you on Thursday!!! Can you clarify what one it is as if we vanished we couldn’t have spoken with you. I understand your frustrations but lies on reviews aren’t helping the company resolve the issues my friend.

Ps we shall call again next week to discuss with you as per

SCAM!!!

SCAM! It looks like they just collected deposits from all the people and run away.

Every single employee should be taken to court and should be in prison!

We were already distressed die to the 1st contractor took the money and vanished without finishing the work leaving us with a roof exposed to rain.

1AContracts already knew the situation and said that the work will start the work in 4 weeks at the time of signing the contract and took the deposit. 8 weeks passed and still no word from them. The guy Curtis who came to check the work never answered my call after that. All of their staff are unprofessional and never answers the call. We thought it's a big company and can be trusted. However, they turned out to be the biggest cheat.

When we manage to speak to staff they keep on lying on my face about materials are not available due to covid. However, the material they were talking about is not needed for my job.

I give £2400 deposit and now I don't know how to get it back.

I urge all the people who are suffering to come together as we can save money on legal fees

I am one of the lucky ones. After getting a visit from the sales team one of the architects came down to plan the job. A really nice guy who took time to talk to us and suggest changes to the drawings etc. They needed a deposit to be paid which they requested to be paid via bank transfer. I transferred the money and within 10 seconds my bank was on the phone having blocked the transaction (well done Santander) they reversed the transaction thankfully and now the website has gone and nobody is answering the phones. Do not use , avoid at all costs. I suspect that now the new funds coming in have dried up the Ponzi scheme has collapsed.

Definitely Not Recommended!

On the 6th May 2021 we purchased a 'full' roof from 1a Glasgow. On completion of the main roof, a few defects were found e.g. misplaced tiles on the verge of the roof, cuts and holes in the lead at the bottom of the velux window... Nothing was done at all to the two small dormer roofs we have. We asked and were told, prior to paying for the roof that the dormers were included. Indeed, this was one of our reasons for purchasing the roof. On calling the company, they sent out a roofer who fixed the tiles, the lead flashing however, remained the same. Some sealant appeared to have been placed over some of the smaller cuts and holes. Nothing was done to either dormer. After a month or so, we developed a leak in the back bedroom. On contacting the company, they sent out roofers to identify the source of the leak, the roofers identified the dormer as the 'possible' source. However, I subsequently asked 'two' independent roofers to have a look and both identified the flashing around the velux window as the problem. Basically, the flashing was not suitable for the velux window, having had slates replaced with tiles, particularly at the base of the window noted earlier. After a few months of emails, many of which were ignored or responded to with promises that were not acted upon, they sent out another roofer to have a look. This roofer, identified the velux flashing as the problem. Subsequently, we agreed to have a new velux window and flashing installed at a cost we found acceptable. This was installed on August 6th and the leak appears to have stopped - however, we have had 'very' little rain, so certainly no guarantees yet. Note that this was not completed before visible, possibly serious damage was done to my ceiling! However, the roofers that installed the window (the same roofers who initially identified the dormer as the possible source of the leak) stated again that they thought the dormer could also be a problem. It was agreed with 1a, again, that roofers would be out to complete work on the dormer. I have emails confirming this. Indeed, two roofers actually came on Mon 9th August, measured the dormer roof and I was informed 'in writing', that they would be out that week to do the job. Still waiting! The company reverted back to making promises of work they do not keep and basically ignoring emails requesting information. All of which I have clearly documented. Moreover, despite making a final payment for the velux window (made on Sat 14th August), I have still not received a final receipt, despite asking two different members of staff. These emails have in fact been completely ignored. I have also now had scaffolding in my back garden since 6th August 2021. Apart from the shoddy work, initially, which directly resulted in a leak and visible damage to a bedroom ceiling, what concerns me most about this company is the attitude of the admin staff and management. Once their roofer had identified the velux flashing as the problem I did in fact begin to develop a more positive opinion of the company. This issue was then acted upon and settled reasonably quickly. However, they have now done basically nothing to resolve or even clarify the situation with regards to the dormer. Indeed, making arrangements they do not keep, promising to send emails they say will clarify the issue, then not doing so and ignoring my emails requesting basic information are now the norm again. There are also a few tiles that are out of place - photos sent, that I noticed and loose tiles that need nailing under the base of the velux flashing. I was told via email that they would be 'out this week' (Aug 22) to fix that. Needless to say, nothing has happened - despite numerous emails... I call that impolite and unprofessional 'at best'. This review remains until I have a clear agreement regarding the issues raised with the company, in writing via email and hence documented and provable, according to what I consider acceptable. I have been more than patient and reasonable with this company. The possibility still exists that an amicable solution can be obtained, though I seriously doubt it. They could try responding to a few simple emails in a timely and efficient manner to begin with, as opposed to stating that roofers would be out then not sending any, ignoring emails and so on. As it stands, I would certainly not recommend this company, indeed quite the opposite, unless you're looking for grief. As for the company reply below, it's laughable and clearly serves to demonstrate, that whoever wrote the reply has paid little attention to my review. PS You have been emailed and the emails were ignored, indeed at least one of the addresses no longer even exists. Update: Mr Hughes's emails noted below, again amounted to giving promises that were reneged upon.

No work carried out and no refund, they kept putting things off and stating that they had supply issues and 3rd party contractors letting them down. It would now appear the company are avoiding calls as all lines go to voicemail and their social media presence no longer exists.

A1 contracts are crooks have £1400 of our money been promised windows from March. Went to the office on Bath Street but this is just their registered address they don't operate from that address. The people at that office have advised we contact the police. Would avoid this company like the plague.

Do not use this company

Do not use this company. Total scam, paid deposit in May, still no work done, asked on numerous occasions for refund!
Received this today- 30/09/21- absolutely rubbish! They just keep delaying things until they disappear. We all know none of us will receive a refund! They don’t even have a complaints policy! Joke!

Hi

Thank you for your email.

Good news is 1A will be fully back within the next 2 weeks and will have our banking issues resolved too with new account. The old account will be closed by 18th October therefore we advise if you have paid via card the you could issue chargeback and we will not dispute that if you are due a refund.

Being open and having banking allows us to take in what is due and start our jobs again and or issue refunds if due.

Thank you so much for your continued patience throughout this time and we endeavour to clear 1A and continue with the rest of the jobs we have on our books.

Regards

1A

My partner and I contracted 1A to do a full loft conversion and landscape work
Paid £5100 deposit for a structural engineer, building warrants and planning permission, and an architect with drawings included, which we were assured they dealt with all of this included in our price!!!

Absolute scammers and disgusting human beings!!
My kids are distraught because they will not have a room to sleep in!!
Surely these people have family??

I couldn’t recommend 1A Contract Ltd

I couldn’t recommend 1A Contract Ltd of Glasgow based upon my personal experience. 1A Contract was one of several companies recommended to undertake construction of my Carport Project.

Following site survey and much discussion during March 2021, I signed Agreement to commence works following April. I was confident 1A Contract could meet my expectations with much promised, and commitments given to me.

On confirmation a works schedule, I paid the Deposit within the Agreement, which I understood to secure Project materials. Start dates came and went without any advice or communication: not a 1A Contracts strong point! Without any indication that work would start and my tolerance and patience finally exhausted, I terminated the Agreement in June.

1A Contracts agreed to refund my Deposit monies as liable within their Terms & Conditions. As with the start dates, due refund dates came and went, my final deadline being 13 August.

As no refund received and no communications forthcoming, I am now force to potential legal recourse. 1A Contracts “Satisfaction Guaranteed”, regrettably not with me!

Believe me in that it gives me no pleasure in reporting this matter as I was hoping to provide a review with the return of my Deposit in that "although my Project with 1A Contracts was not completed, they are an honourable company to deal with!"
