Dangerous and Intimidating Driving by Company Van
On 3 June, I had a deeply upsetting and dangerous encounter with a driver from Evans & Co Ltd, driving a white van with registration LD74 WFZ in Mayfair, London, at the junction of Park Street and North Row.
Traffic was stationary, and I began crossing the road on foot behind a large truck. As I reached the middle of the crossing, the driver of the van suddenly accelerated into the box junction — directly toward me — passing extremely close behind me. It felt like an act of intimidation, as though he was trying to force me out of his way or scare me. I was left shaken and frightened.
This behaviour is not only unacceptable, but potentially unlawful under the UK Highway Code. The driver appeared to ignore pedestrian priority (Rule 170), possibly misused the yellow box junction (Rule 174), and failed in their duty of care to a vulnerable road user.
I have submitted a formal complaint to the police. I am sharing this here to alert others and urge the company to take driver conduct seriously. Road safety — especially in busy urban areas — depends on professional, respectful driving, and this was the opposite of that.
