Lots of hassle. No Support. Hidden fees

Had to drag luggage what seemed like a mile to a parking lot in the rain to get the car and pay 25 Euro to get the car out of the lot. Couldn't find the car at first. Called support number and got a recording that they would call us back. They didn't

Wasn't aware that there was an additional charge for crossing national borders. Instead of charging us the 35 Euros that it should have cost they hit us for 120

They found some damage on the car that we allegedly inflicted and charged us an enormous fee for repair and a 45 Euro administrative fee.

Then they kept our security deposit for an extended period of time instead of the 72 hours they promised.

Our 135 Euro rental ended up costing us over 700 Euros.

Holding part of my deposit/ No reason or explanation!!!

AVOID RENTING FROM LIIGU.
I rented a car from Liigu from Sep 17 2024 to Sep 25 2024.
They charged my credit card security deposit of $2318.39!
Usually all car rental company hold $500. ( Hold means the credit card company hold the money and don’t release the money to Liigu bank account until Car is returned and a damage was claimed)
Liigu didn’t hold $500 . They CHARGED $2318.39
(Full amount was deposited to Liigu bank account when car was picked up)
When looking at the car, This 2024 new car with less than 18000km on it has more than approx. 15 very small scratches and small dents marked with a Liigu clear stickers. I wonder what cause these scratches and dents!!!
I returned the car without any damages, without any scratches, any dents or any accident.
I took photos and a slow VIDEO around the car as evidence to insure and confirm that the car is exactly in the same condition as it was picked up and sent them to Liigu.
On September 28,I received an email saying: we regret to inform you of a situation that requires your attention.
And they asked me to wait while doing inspection And they will get back to me.
I Asked them to explain what is the situation. Didn’t receive any reply.
Oct. 14, I received a refund on my credit card from Liigu for the amount of $1267.32 
Liigu charged me the amount of $1051.07 without any explanation or justifications - now it is almost 7 weeks after returning the car.
I sent many emails asking for explanation. They never replied to me.
In addition to holding $1051.07, It took me 1.5 hours to find the car. They asked me to follow the GPS guide that took me to a location were the car was parked 2 days before. Until they figured out where the car is located, I was walking between terminals following instructions from CSR. And because I didn't pick up the car within 45 minutes of my arrival to airport, I had to pay 28EUROS for parking. The delay was their fault but didn't reimburse me for this amount.

Started liquidation proceedings

I have just recieved an email from Liigu to advise they are initiating liquidation proceedings and will be unable to return my deposit until the end of the year (which is 4 months after my rental) and it may not be returned in full. Amazing that it still seems booking can be made in the app….

Truly bad , avoid !

My rental was from Bordeaux Airport , none of the much hyped keyless entry and start up operated because the WiFi signal was sh## , eventually the helpline people remotely started the car ( so fears of Mr Xi taking over your PRC designed/built car are perhaps not so far fetched as many claim ) I had no confidence that the car would open or start up when needed and it did blight our holiday experience . The external condition of the car was truly dreadful , featuring 14 stickers informing us that Liigu were aware of the damage , a quality company would not offer such a poorly presented car to a paying customer . I emailed Liigu to tell them of my bad experience and requested a full refund of rental paid , but of course have been met with a deafening silence . On the plus side I did get the deposit returned within a few days , but I suggest that the many recent complaints about non return of deposit signify the imminent demise of this rental company.

Final update

Finally got my deposit of 1500 euros back. They have had my money since September 12 and it is now November 4. I had to go through my credit card company to get my money. Liigu is a lying thieving company. The are probably going bankrupt which is a good thing. I hope everyone out there that they are keeping their deposit back before they do. Avoid this company

Changed contract terms after booking - no post-rental support

Liigu don't respect contract T&Cs that were entered into. When booking the car I specifically asked about cross-border driving (pick up at Nice airport, driving into Italy) and was told this was covered. Some weeks later was told that they'd changed their T&Cs and now I had to pay extra to drive cross-border.

Once I arrived at Nice airport I was given a description of where the vehicle would be, but when I tried the app's "Lead me to my car" feature it took me to a completely wrong location, had to backtrack and search again before I found the vehicle using the text description.

Once I left the airport heading into Italy I realised that the air conditioning wasn't working - temperatures were well over 30 celsius, so driving was without AC was awful. On reaching my destination I contacted Liigu support about this - it took 3 days for them to agree to replace the vehicle, BUT I had to drive back to Nice airport for the swap, taking more time out of my holiday.

When I got home I emailed their support twice asking for some level of compensation - all I got was automated responses saying their support would be looking into my issues. Several weeks later I've still had no response - nothing saying they would compensate me, or to say that they wouldn't. Nada.

Would never use them again.

This company will steal your money!!

**UPDATE: I was contacted by Liigu after this review and informed that the company is being liquidated. Unfortunately, as of Nov 13 it is still possible to rent a car through the Liigu website so again DO NOT go anywhere near Liigu!!! It is a scam and they will take your money and run. **

This company will steal your money!!! Don’t go anywhere near them.
I rented a car in Nice airport. Everything went smooth with the rental and return.
BUT i have not received my deposit back of 1.000 euro and I am being put off by customer service with “your return is up for review”.
Well Liigu… it has been 1,5 months since the car was returned (undamaged) and nothing is happening. Now Liigu has stopped answering and stolen my money!
Never thought I would go back to Hertz, Avis and Sixt again…

Just don't do it! Never has returned deposit!

Still holding deposit! We traveled on 9/25/2024
Rental was fine. There was one time we could not start car w the app but it was an all around decent experience until holding they have not refunded the deposit. We have made constant calls and WhatsApp, etc. with empty promises to get it to us as fast as possible. Now we are contacting credit card company.

No deposit back

UPDATE: AS OF DECEMBER 11th NO MONEY BACK IS THERE ANYONE THAT COULD HELP TO DEAL WITH THIS CONSUMERS FRAUD?

UPDATE: After more than 2 Months no deposit back. That seems a FRAUD I ask Consumers orgs. And Legal Authorities to investigate on why Liigu is NOT returning deposits.

I rented a car from Liigu at Milan Linate Airport, from September 29th to October 6th, 2024. Here is my experience:

The car was returned on time, with a full tank, to the same location.
As per the contract, Liigu charged $1,674.60 on September 25th, 48 hours before the rental started (originally set to begin on September 28th).
On October 9th, I received an email stating that, following the end of the rental, Liigu discovered "scratches on the front left alloy rim," resulting in a charge of €170 (about $184.90), including an administration fee.
Since I did not capture the front left of the car in my initial video, I had no proof that the scratch was pre-existing, so I accepted this charge without dispute.
Since then, I have been waiting for the remainder of my deposit, $1,490.60 ($1,674.60 - $184.90).
Starting October 15th, I reached out to Liigu support multiple times—via seven emails and ten WhatsApp messages. As of November 1st, 2024, I have still not received the deposit remainder.
Liigu support informed me that their main team is holding the funds but provided no specific reason or timeline. They only indicated that the funds might be returned by December, nearly three months after the rental ended.
If my deposit is not refunded by November 6th, I will have to file a formal complaint with the Estonian Consumer Disputes Committee. I hope this step will not be necessary.
This ongoing issue has taken considerable time and has been a significant source of stress.

Update on November 7th After 1 month still no money back. I filed a Dispute to Consumer Disputes Committee.

Update as November 12th no sign of my deposit.

If Someone is starting a Class Action please share I will join it.

Is there anyone that is able to investigate on what Liigu is doing with so many people deposits?

As of November 19th still Liigu liquidators hold my money. Here some consideration:

Deposit Refund: The deposit I paid is not a form of credit or a liability owed by Liigu; it is my own money, held temporarily as a guarantee. Under EU consumer protection laws, rental companies are required to return a deposit promptly after the vehicle is inspected and any applicable charges are assessed. Since you have already completed the inspection and provided an invoice for the damages, no legal grounds exist to delay the refund further.

Legal and Consumer Rights: According to EU regulations, particularly Directive 93/13/EEC on unfair terms in consumer contracts, holding a deposit beyond the necessary inspection timeframe without justification is considered an unfair commercial practice. Additionally, Regulation (EU) 2017/2394 on consumer protection cooperation stipulates that companies must not mislead or unduly delay refunds. Your communication suggests a further delay that appears unwarranted under these directives.

These are important EU directives, is there someone that can help all the people that trusted Liigu giving 1500 euro and getting nothing back?

As of November 21st no money back!!! I guess we all have to hire a lawyer pretty soon.

Let's file a complaint with the EU against liigu from doing illegal business.

liigu never refund the deposit. It's already been six weeks since I returned the rental car. In the meantime, I have sent 11 refund requests emails. This is the third review I've posted on trustpilot. liigu claims it's still being processed, but it doesn't process the refund. Without even washing the car, I charged 233 euros for scratches on the small stain on the bumper. The remaining 1267 euros of the 1500 euros deposit is not refunded for six weeks. I don't understand how such a bad company can continue to operate a rental car. liigu is a thief who tries to steal customers' deposits. Never use it.
I don't see why the EU and the Estonian government allow these illegal companies to remain in business. Customers who have taken a deposit with liigu are likely to have to file a complaint with the supervisory authority to prevent liigu from doing such illegal business.

I hired a car from Nice airport and took photos of all sides of the vehicle. The hire was for three weeks and I returned it with a full tank. Took photos of the car when it was returned showing the car was in exactly the same condition and emailed them the pictures. Numerous phone calls and WhatsApp messages and 5 weeks later still the deposit has not been returned.

From 5* to 2*

What a fall from grace! Such a great idea too and worked so well for a year bit so. The whole USP is we don’t have to queue. Last rental, I arrived and opened the app as normal. This time there was no information of where the car was. The ‘location’ had a pin on the car rental offices. Wandered there for ten minutes hoping to see something then the app changed and said go to europcar desk. Walked there, took a ticket, waited 20 mins to be told they know nothing about me. WhatsApp sent to Liigu with no reply. Called, no answer. The app then changed and said go to sixt. Queued again and finally got a car via sixt (who were very helpful). I’ve used Liigu so many times and truly believed it’s the future of car rental. Now, I can’t trust them. To me it seems there likely wasn’t a car allocated to me (forgot) then last minute bookings and information changes in the app. Waited an hour for a vehicle and ruined the first day of holidays as the family stranded at the airport with no information. Please return to what you had!

The empty promises still continue. This is an update and I am confirming the continuing failure of LIIGU to return my deposit of €3000. I have informed the website where their deals are advertised -Travel Supermarket- and advised them of their unscrupulous activity. This is my most recent email and their generic response.

"4 Weeks and Still No Deposit – Ligu Car Rentals Is Ignoring and Deceiving Customers"

Ligu Car Rentals - A Complete Disappointment

I dropped off my rental car with Ligu Car Rentals on September 30th with the expectation that my deposit would be returned promptly. It’s now been four weeks, and I’m still waiting for my deposit back.

I called three times to follow up, and each time I was assured that the deposit would be returned soon, as there was no damage to the car. However, this was just empty reassurance—my deposit still hasn’t been returned, and eventually, my calls were no longer answered.

I then moved to their WhatsApp helpline, thinking I might get some answers. After multiple messages, all I received were copy-pasted replies stating my case had been "raised to the relevant department." Weeks have gone by with no updates and no sign of my deposit.

The final blow was an email from Ligu OU claiming they couldn’t return my deposit because the company is "going into liquidation." This announcement comes only a month after they were celebrating supposed growth and market expansion.

It’s clear that Ligu is ignoring customers, refusing to respond, and now outright refusing to return deposits. Save yourself the hassle and find a company that values transparency and customer service. This experience has been incredibly frustrating, and I feel deceived and ignored.

Good experience, until they hold your deposit

Same experience as many others. The deposit is held for no valid reason. I have now waited for 3 weeks and was informed in the last update from Liigu that I will get a response within the next month. Not good at all. will be reported to the credit card company.

Company in liquidation

Avoid this company at all costs. Not that you’ll be able to rent from them as they are in liquidation. But make sure you look out for their owners in any future rental market. Total scam.

1. They told me I had to return my car mid rental, which would have been an 12 hour round trip. And I would have to pay for a new one. I said no.

2. They said they would hire me a new car close to my current location if I dropped off the car, bur I would have to pay for the one way fee (not my choice - enforced by them) and the extra driver (that was included in my original rental). I said no.

3. They agreed to pay the charges (after the fact - can’t possibly pay upfront). Promised they booked me a new car the same size (for all our luggage). They failed to tell me the drop off location. I was trying to call for 2.5 hours. No answer. They end my rental and I get locked out the car.

4. Finally drop off the car, and the new car they’ve booked me has a boot half the size. A golf, rather than an SUV cross. No response from customer service.

5. I wait another 2 hours. Give up, take small car, have to pay for a train while husband drives with luggage!

Will I get my deposit and out of pocket expenses back? Unlikely. Should the owners be done for financial fraud? Absolutely. Hope they can never raise capital again. Shocking. Glad I’ve worked in financial regulation. Will be reporting the deposit payment as fraud.
