After waiting for weeks for my deposit…

After waiting for weeks for my deposit return, I have received the below email:

"Dear Iulian Vdovicenco,

We understand the need to return your deposit.

We have started the liquidation procedure of the company because Liigu OÜ has been unable to realize its business plan due to slower than expected growth in the rental market, failure to meet sales targets and excessive costs associated with owning the vehicle fleet. We are returning the vehicles used by Liigu (including those used by you) to our partner. The owner of the vehicles will inspect the condition of the vehicles and a report on any damage will be submitted to Liigu.

The process of returning the vehicles and checking their condition is expected to last until December 2024. This significantly affects Liigu's financial situation and its ability to return the deposit to you. It is possible that Liigu will not be able to refund the deposit in full.

We apologize for this situation and are doing everything in our power to resolve it as quickly and easily as possible.

Please accept, Madam, Sir, the expression of our distinguished greetings,

4 Weeks and waiting

Car returned to Toulouse airport 4 weeks ago. Still no refund despite phone calls, emails and WhatsApp chats. Credit card company advised today and will be investigating. I will update if Liigu suddenly clear this issue up meanwhile it’s a firm ‘No thanks’ to any future car hire.

Malpensa Airport terrible experience with Liigu scamming scheme

I booked with Liigu a car from Malpensa Airport. The main reason was that they offered keyless pick-up at late night hours as my flight arrived after midnight. The booking was done 3months in advance and all was fine. I downloaded their app and followed all the instructions . Two days before my flight I received email from them that my reservation was transferred to Europcar and I need to pick-up from Europcar desk which closes after 23:30. The email of course went in a spam folder but Liigu didn't bother to call me or send a text or update this in the app. I arrived at Malpensa after midnight and couldn't pick up a car from Europcar. Liigu support had very slow response. It was all on WhatsApp and basically telling me to contact Europcar in the morning when they open. I sent several messages to Liigu in WhatsApp but absolutely no response. I tried calling their UK and France number available in the website but absolutely no response! I managed to speak with Europcar and they said they have reservation on my name but the full damage waiver I have paid with Liigu is not valid with Europcar and if I want that I will have to pay additionally. This whole Liigu craziness costed me unplanned night stay in a hotel with two children and another 150£ for the insurance with Europcar. I am not sure if Liigu even exists or it is a random scamming scheme. Be very careful and avoid this company. Better pay a little more for one of the established rental.firms but save all the headache. You won't be able even to complain or talk to anyone at Liigu.

Avoid Liigu! - Great Car, Nightmare Deposit Return Process and Customer Service

My recent experience renting a car from Liigu in Paris started well but ended in a nightmare. The app was convenient, the car was exactly as promised—clean, well-maintained, and easy to access. We returned the car on time, with a full tank and zero damage. Liigu confirmed everything was fine and assured us that our €1500 deposit would be returned within 72 hours.

That was four weeks ago. Since then, I’ve received nothing but empty, generic responses thanking me for my “patience” while they “escalate” the issue. Yet, I’m still waiting for my deposit. It’s clear from other reviews that this is a common tactic—Liigu strings customers along, making empty promises with no intention of prompt action.

If you like dealing with boilerplate responses and enjoy chasing down your own money, go ahead and rent from Liigu. For anyone else, I’d highly recommend avoiding this company altogether. This isn’t just poor service; it’s disgraceful and completely unprofessional!

Liigu don't transfer the deposit back, so stay away and never consider renting car from Liigu. I just lost 1000€ and have reported this fraud to Mastercard.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

We returned the car 4 weeks ago and still haven't received the deposit back. 4 weeks of being charged interest on this amount on the credit card and all they tell me when I contact them is to 'be patient'. I absolutely would not recommend this company for car hire.

Refusing to return deposit

Company is refusing to return my security deposit (€1500), it has now been 4 weeks since the rental was completed. The agreement clearly states 72 hours and after a few generic email responses (“we’re looking into it”… “you’re a priority” etc etc), they are now just not engaging at all.

Use established and reputable car hire companies - it may cost a little more, but at least you won’t be scammed out of your deposit.

the rent could be great wait for my security deposit more then 2 weeks now

the rent could be great even minor problem wrong parking bit far from where i land and low communication, but the car was A1. But they still keep my security deposit of 1500 euro on my credit card, they said they will fix soon, and now they said is on evaluation until next month, this is very bad for Liigu. I will put 4 stars if this doesn't happen. Update 7 November, still waiting for my deposit unbelievable

Rental deposit was fine but still no refund

The rental and the car was all fine and a good experience until we handed the car back. I returned the car on the 28th September to Bordeaux and despite 2 e mails requesting my refund which they say they return within 72 hours, I still have not received my refund of €1500. Really disappointing as the rest of the experience was positive.

I’ve been waiting for my deposit (€1000) for a month already!!

This is the worst service I have ever experienced. I've been trying to get my deposit (€1000,-) back for a month now, but I keep receiving the same response: "there is a problem with the delay." They either can't or won't explain the issue more specifically. Every two days, I send a Whatsapp message, they do respond on, but it doesn’t help, as you keep getting the same answer, just phrased differently. They keep promising to get back to me, I should have received my deposit back a month ago.
My advice to anyone considering renting from Liigu: don't do it. You'll wait forever for your deposit, and whether you'll ever get it back is questionable.

I find this situation very unusual, as we did not interfere with the vehicle in any way. Furthermore, it strikes me as highly irregular that I am only being informed about alleged damage to the car after a month. Such matters should be reported within a week. Given that the vehicle has been rented out to other customers after my rental...
I am inclined to believe that this may be a fraudulent claim.

Despite our repeated attempts to reach out via WhatsApp, we received no response indicating there was any damage to the vehicle. Instead, we were told it was a technical issue with your system. I must express my dissatisfaction with the professionalism of your company.

This is absolutely unacceptable, the way you treat customers who rent a car from you.

Brilliant until they held our deposit

Brilliant hire care experience, until we got home and we still have not received our €1500 deposit which was taken from my account a few days prior to the rental period. We returned the car to Nice airport on 1.10.24 and I still do not have my deposit back. The rest of the experience was so positive that I am even more disappointed that this has happened. It is very worrying that this is happening to other people as well. Please arrange the refund soon.

Liigu you continue to rent cars and take consumer’s deposit even though you have no intentions of repaying it. The reviews on Trustpilot are within their guidelines and it’s there to make consumers aware of what your company is doing.
If you’d like to give me my deposit back less the gas money I owe, then I’ll consider.

Illegally charged deposit

Same case here. The deposit has not been returned after the agreed 72 hours. The company has sent me many emails with general answers and apologies and that my money will be back on my account soon. After many attempts to get the illegally charged deposit of 1,000 euros returned, I sent a complaint to the Norwegian branch of the Consumer Council at the European Union. The department has forwarded the case to Tallin, where Liigu is registered. Today I received feedback from them that Liigu is BANKRUPTCY.

Bluetooth experience is unusual

Bluetooth experience is unusual, and was generally effective. Few times it didn't pair up even with me and my phone sat in the drivers seat, but was ok after fiddling with it for a few moments.
Car itself was excellent, but like many others it seems, they are reluctant to return deposits.
I've now been waiting for two weeks, and have contacted my credit card company cos this is ridiculous.
Customer service generally seems to be unacceptable. I wanted to add a second driver, but they never authorised it, so they lost out on extra money, through their own incompetence.
Would never recommend or use again..

Hey Liigu, where's my deposit??

I rented a Liigu car in Italy. Liigu charged a 1000 euro deposit from my credit card. I returned the car over a month ago. After 3 days they sent me an email stating that there would be "a small delay".
Still no bill, no return and Liigu does not answer emails. Incredible!

Awful customer service

Unfortunately, this company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They hide behind emails and WhatsApp messages without responding. I also tried calling their number on several occasions and it just went straight to voicemail. They held on to my deposit for over 2 weeks even though they are meant to return within 72 hours per their terms and conditions resulting in a loss of over £25 in foreign exchange. Further, after giving them 12 hours notice of flight delay, they still parked up the car at the terminal early resulting in over £20 of car parking charges. Beware of hidden charges also for crossing borders. Avoid this company and stick with the larger corporate car hire companies!

Liigu generates extra VAT-free income.

I did apply for bordercrossing option. In the service option are a few countries mentioned you may not enter with their rental car. Further on free traveling within EU. Here starts our story. Did any one you realise Andorra ,enclosed between Spain and France, is not a EU member. We rented in Toulouse and drove to Spain, through Andorra. Liigu subtracts immidiately €500 of creditcard because, to their opinion, we illegally crossed a border. They don't even pay VAT on this fine. I informed allready Ministry of Finance and Taxes in Estonia. When you rent at Liigu make a study of political situation in Europe.
To my opinion Liigu delivers for the amount of the fine €500 not any service , good or else neither they are subject to any disadvantages or costs when you enter Andorra, So it is businessmodel to earn quick and easy money. Disgusting!
