I rented a car in Paris back in April
I rented a car in Paris back in April. Everything went fine until I saw my credit card bill this month (September) and found a new charge from Liigu. When I contacted them about it they simply replied that it was a late fee and admin. fee. No explanation as to what this meant as the car was returned on time. It was also for an amount that was over $100 more than the invoice they attached. Not sure why the charge or why it came 5 months later. It's all very shady. I would definitely recommend you look for another company.

Deposit not returned after 8 weeks
Update:
It's been 8 weeks since my car rental ended and I still haven't received the deposit back.
Update:
They eventually sent me details of the damage, I accepted it but they still haven't refunded the rest of my deposit, and they haven't sent the documents I need to claim my excess insurance.
My deposit has not been refunded 11 days after the rental ended.
My rental ended on September 15th. 2 days later I received an email about a "potential issue" with the car but since then I haven't received any explanations or updates. When I reached out to Customer service on the 24th they said I will receive the refund by today along with the details on the potential issue. I still haven't received anything.
I sent plenty of photos of the car on pick up and drop off, so it would've been easy for them to see that the car was returned in the same condition or for them to prove the opposite.

The rental looks to be competitive BUT
The rental looks to be competitive, but they cannot be trusted when it comes to returning the security deposit. We had a car we collected from an underground car park at 12:30 a.m. it was dark. We drove the car to a family members home went to bed got up and found the car was covered in stickers, highlighting previous damage. The idea all marks are noted is great, but the number and the fact some of the marks looked very minor caused me a little concern. So when we returned it, we took a video and several pictures of the vehicle. We had made sure the car had not one mark on it. A few days after getting home we received an email suggesting we had damaged (scraped a wheel). We sent the video, we then supplied photographs I had taken all of which showed the drop off point and no marks on the wheel. (Apart from the two it already had). They refused to accept these and asked to a date and time stamped photo, (something everyone thinks of), not sure why they needs this, the car was only at the place pictured during daylight at the time we dropped it off. Fortunately, my wife had also taken photographs, and by luck they are auto date time and location stamped. She had close up pictures of the wheels. I sent the first picture they told me it was the wrong wheel. I then sent a close up of the wheel, (date stamped) showing the coding of the tyre at the base of the marked spoke. They have recently replied stating their experts believe this is the wrong spoke. My day job is a motor insurance specialist, my wife also works in insurance. They will try anything they can to increase the cost of the hire. They will tell you they use a process, but they get more complaints about making claims up than the other hire companies. I have proof the wheel was not damaged and I must confess, I am now posting this information all over the internet because of the way they behave. They do respond to emails, but the suggestion is they are right, and you could not be. (My non-dated pictures are in the car park they use for drop off’s - I would need to return during my holiday take a photo of an undamaged car on the basis when I came back four days later it has a mark on it)! Look at other reviews, hopefully I will save others more than they have taken from me.

Very slow to return deposit. It killed my confidence in them
Clear instructions to collect the car upon arrival. Very flexible (our flight was delayed and they extended our pick-up time accordingly after notifying them).
Booking 52676421
However, beware because they seem to always refund the deposit late. I returned the car on the 20th and on the 23rd I received an email saying that due to admin issues it will be delayed, but no timeframe is given.
1500€ is a lot of money, and I really need it to pay my bills!!! You have zero rights to keep clients deposit for longer after returning the car.
Also, you were giving the “admin issues” excuse last month already, I read a few reviews about it from August. I would appreciate the truth please: why are you holding clients deposits for longer than planned?
Unfortunately if I don’t see my deposit processed in the next 48 hours Im gonna have to request a chargeback through my bank.
This amount of money is a lot and I really need it. Also i’ll be charged credit card late repayment fees because of you. Never again
Update: they have now refunded my deposit

If I could give them 0 stars
If I could give them 0 stars, I would. We hired a car due to be picked up at 12. Car isn’t available and no one in customer service will respond. Forced to hire with an alternative company or face sitting in an airport for hours waiting for shocking customer service to respond. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

Stay Far Away
will add to the warnings to stay far away from this company. We picked up a car at a hotel near CDG in Paris and it was pretty dinged up. They had stickers all over the car showing existing scratches and dents. We took notice of most ( we thought all of them). We returned the car about a week later without incident, and then they charged our account almost $1,000 in damages despite us having the full damage waiver. When we asked, they sent pictures of some tiny scratches on the hubcaps that we never would have noticed before or after saying we caused them. They also indicated that, conveniently enough, hub caps are not covered by the "full" damage waiver and that there was some fine print on their website indicating this. They are obviously preying on international visitors who won't bother coming back to France to sue them.
Stay far away!!

They will charge you a deposit of $1600…
They will charge you a deposit of $1600 without your knowledge and steal your money. I had a two day rental with minimal driving and they would not give my deposit back. They should be sued and shut down as a company. It’s a scam.

A relatively straightforward process
A relatively straightforward process, good email communication with clear instructions. Above all you avoid the usual qs after landing and can get on the road quickly. My only niggle would be aligning the pick up/drop off point with the arrival/departure terminal.

An all round very positive experience
Excellent instructions on how to find and use the car. Great communication via WhatsApp and telephone. I particularly liked the little stickers showing previous damage to the car, it took all the angst and worry away regarding should we take photos etc. The dents and dings were recorded accurately in the app. Great idea

Terrific experience
Arranged a rental for pick up in Toulouse,France airport. Comms were very good building up to the hire start day. Collection point was about 15 minutes walk from airport. Which was made clear and I probably should have left other members of my family at the airport with bags as Toulouse has a free short term pick up. Having to do everything on the App was pretty cool but had some snags with internet connection in a basement car park and the odd Bluetooth flakiness which could have been my phone. Closing and reopening the App solved the few issues I had.
All existing damage on the car was marked with little clear stickers. Liigu took a security deposit of ~ 1200 euros, which is standard if you don't take additional cover from any car hire company. Deposit was refunded in full within 72 hours after drop off.
The car was really good for the hire cost.
The fully digital experience may be a challenge for some but I am 60 and I managed 😀
I was not familiar with Liigu before now but on our experience I would definitely recommend them.

Avoid
I rented a car from Liigu at the Nice airport at the end of August 2024. Never again.
1. Upload your ID to the app for verification. Simple, right? Well, only if you enjoy waiting almost a week for that “within 24 hours” verification. I guess time just flows differently in Liigu-land. I had to threaten to cancel the rental before they finally approved it—on the very last day. Should’ve stuck to my guns and bailed, honestly.
2. The deposit? Oh no, they don’t just block it like any other reputable company. Liigu charges you the full €1,500, just in time to mess up your credit card statement. And as for getting it back within 72 hours after the return of the car? Dream on. 9 days later -two instalments, no less - I finally got it back. Did I get an interest-free loan in the process? Oh wait, no, they did.
3. Parking fees: You know what’s fun? Getting an instruction after arriving in Nice to pay for the rental car’s parking. Because who doesn’t love footing the bill for the parking that’s been racking up all this time. Exactly what I wanted on my holiday: surprise parking fees.
4. Missing parking ticket? I mean that welcome present from Liigu when you collect the car. No problem! Just search the car like Sherlock Holmes on a caffeine binge, and when that fails, call customer service. They'll cheerfully tell you it’s definitely there, but you’re just too blind to see it. Spoiler: it wasn’t there. Cue the “help” button at the barrier and a lovely fine for losing something that never existed in the first place.
5. Car unlock via app: The pinnacle of tech innovation, except when your phone battery dies or the app decides to be “temperamental.” Want to feel the longest two minutes of your life? Try starting your Liigu car with an app while a queue of irritated drivers builds behind you at the petrol station. Thrilling!
6. Crossing into Monaco: Ah, the Monaco trap. Liigu’s little honey pot. Want to see Monaco, just a casual 20 miles away? Enjoy your €640 penalty for committing the heinous crime of crossing a border (€35 border crossing + 3x €35 penalty for unauthorized border crossing + €500 for entering a 'restricted' country). Thankfully, Liigu generously only swindled us out of €140. How thoughtful! I’m sure they’d love to remind their customers that a trip to Monaco will cost them their kidney rather than bury it in a small print, but spoiler alert: they won’t.
7. Emails? Ha! Sending an email to Liigu is like writing a letter to Santa Claus. Neither will be answered, but at least Santa pretends to read them.
So, that's it. If you enjoy confusion, hidden charges, and Kafkaesque customer service, Liigu is your dream come true! But if you’re more into, I don’t know, sanity, do yourself a favour: rent elsewhere. Should you brave this circus, my top tip is to go straight to your credit card company (section 75) when things inevitably go sideways. Oh, and cancel that card immediately after—you never know what surprise scratches they’ll “find” half a year later.
Good luck! You’ll need it.
P.S. My response to Liigu's reply below:
Dear Lana (or is it Jennifer? I noticed an identical response from "Jennifer" to my TripAdvisor review),
Thank you for your reply. However, it doesn’t quite address the key issues:
Liigu’s Terms and Conditions seem highly questionable and possibly illegal under English law (Consumer Rights Act 2015), as they are extremely unfair to customers. Yet, remarkably, Liigu even manages to breach these already unfair T&Cs. You mention facing “challenges” and “working actively to improve efficiency.” I’m sure many businesses do, but buzzwords alone won’t suffice. It seems cheaper for Liigu to have someone maintain PR by constantly apologizing than to deliver proper service in the first place.
When a customer unknowingly breaches your T&Cs, however, they face hefty fines. I was penalized for visiting Monaco. Yes, I received the push notifications - after I had already arrived. Surely, you’re aware that using a mobile while driving is illegal in most countries, unlike crossing the border into Monaco.
In my case, Liigu breached its own T&Cs by not having the rental car ready for collection. The parking ticket was missing, and paying for parking before the rental starts is certainly an interesting business practice. Perhaps next time customers should also cover the cost of an oil change or champagne for Liigu HQ? Another breach was the late ID verification and the late return of the deposit.
Your apology, while noted, doesn’t cut it. So, here’s a challenge: put your money where your mouth is. Pay a €200 penalty to me - €50 for the delayed car delivery (that's what you charge for a late return, isn't it?) and 3x €50 for the unauthorized late delivery - following the logic of your €35 border crossing fee + 3x €35 for “unauthorized crossings.”

DO NOT USE - TAKE MONEY FROM CARD MONTHS LATER
SCAM. Awful experience. Rude support. Charged me twice for a fee I paid a month ago (with full evidence of having paid it already) and accused me of “ignoring” emails which don’t exist.
Stated they “consider the matter closed” and aren’t prepared to even talk on the phone to refund.

Great experience
Great experience, so simple to pick up car at the airport; loved the keyless function too. Bluetooth is all you need! I needed to change a couple of details during the rental and the phone helpline were very efficient.

Clean and Easy
The car and the keyless entry were absolutely fantastic! Super clean and easy! The only downside I had was the pickup from a random lot, far from the terminal. Not bad enough to prevent me from renting again.

They steel and cheat
We rented a car in Nice, France in the summer of 2023. We returned the car and we recieved word from Liigu that everything was fine and Liigu gave us back our deposit.
3 months later (and presumably after many other rentals of the car to other people) Liigu suddenly believes that we have made a damage to the car. That's 3 months later!
I write to Liigu that I have not damaged the car and that they had checked the car as I returned it - given med an all clear - and given me my deposit back.
Liigu have sent me several warnings and threats on legal action since then. Every time I have refused to pay.
Now, over a year after my rental, Liigu has taken the money directly out of my account as they have kept the credit card information from my rental.
Frankly, I am outraged!
Needless to say I will be starting legal action and I will be reporting Liigu to the relevant authorities regarding data protection regulations for keeping, and using, my credit card information for so long after my rental.
Think about this: If you have an argument with Liigu they simply don't care and simply just take your money directly from your bank account without your concent.
Rent your car somewhere else!

Do not use! Use a real car hire company with a key and people to protect yourself!
WARNING PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS CAR HIRE COMPANY!!
We hired a car from this company for a week. Firstly the car hire is not practical! Your phone needs to be constantly with you and charged. If your battery dies or you forget your phone or it gets damaged you are completely stranded! The app is so bad too. Constantly having to open and close it to connect, just to get into the car or start it! Not practical at all with small children. Also who wants to be spending their holiday on a car hire app!!
The bit that is the real con is that there is no one to meet you when you drop it off so they basically they make up damage with no proof! You leave the car in a car park where anything can happen to it and they do not pick it up immediately, so you are liable for anything that happens to it after you have dropped it off!( which could be days later) They sent an email saying that they are keeping our deposit £1500 because they said we had an incident , which we did not! We did not crash at all or damage the car. The email did not provide any proof, report or photos or anything! When I called them to ask for the information, the rude useless woman told me I need to email another department to ask them! So apparently this car hire is going to cost over £2k for 7 days hire! Literally day light robbery. Do yourselves a favour and use a real car hire company with a key and real people to protect yourself from this.
