If the was an option for 0stars I would have chosen that. I returned a router back at their Alberton store because they lied to me and told me I had coverage when I was signing up online with their call center agent, however that was not the case I returned the router within 2 days of having it but they never logged that into their system and now they keep billing me, I had to go and block their debit order at my bank but now because of that it's affecting my credit score. How can you bill me for something I don't have, never even used? I have sent numerous emails and I have spoken to them but still nothing. You are ruining my life

Mtn fraud

MTN has some fraudulent activities happening either by the consultants or MTN as a whole, today I was supposed to receive my package but an hour before delivery I was told that the parcel us returned back to MTN warehouse a couple of minutes later I receive an email with OTP for authentication, which is a security thing they do when they deliver them shortly after I received an sms saying it was successfully authenticated. But the delivery wasn't sent to me as on my side they Said the package was returned to mtn warehouse meaning someone took my package under my name and under my account details. I reported the matter to MTN fraud line and NCC. I called MTN customer support and without any urgency on their side, until now I haven't received any assistance or even proper correspondence

Mtn is a great and reputable company in Africa but lately they are ruining the trust they built for years. After a lot of years using their services in Rwanda they increased my minimum price i pay on airtime to be able to make a call without my consent which is stressful.

MTN Refuses Direct Settlement and Forces Customers to Attorneys

MTN Refuses Direct Settlement and Forces Customers to Attorneys

I am extremely frustrated with MTN’s handling of my account.

I have made multiple attempts to settle my outstanding balance directly with MTN in good faith. I have even offered to make an immediate payment and enter into a structured payment plan on a reduced settlement amount.

Despite this, MTN continues to redirect me to third-party attorneys instead of assisting me directly. This is unacceptable.

As a consumer, I have the right under the National Credit Act to settle my account at any time. Instead of facilitating a direct and efficient resolution, MTN is choosing to complicate the process by involving third parties, which only leads to unnecessary legal costs and delays.

It is clear that no real effort is being made to resolve this matter, despite my willingness to pay and settle.

I am formally requesting:
- A direct settlement figure from MTN
- The option to resolve this matter without third-party involvement
- A fair and reasonable settlement discount

If this matter is not resolved urgently, I will escalate it further through the National Credit Regulator and the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud.

MTN needs to take accountability and assist customers who are actively trying to settle their accounts instead of making the process more difficult.

I am ready to resolve this immediately — MTN just needs to cooperate.

MTN is fraudulent

MTN is fraudulent! Be careful! Their staff does sim swaps and then thay have ALL access to your details and accounts. Its MTN's responsibility to analyze and do investigation in-house to sift out these bad apple's. The public have NO defense! MTN Put your House In Order! Where is our privacy? How can we trust you?

Airtime loss due to MTNs mistake

Recently got an MTN sim card becuase I heard the network was really good. Network was decent, but their USSD codes never seemed to work properly, either taking forever to go through or giving up halfway through whatever you were doing with weird errors. Called customer service and issue was resolved for a time.

Fast forward to 16 March 2026, I bought airtime and used that to buy data bundle using MTNs USSD codes and selecting the Mytown menu, where I bought 5GB day and 5GB night for R59 which would expire in 7 days.

The USSD codes were back to giving me trouble, but eventually I managed to get through and make the purchase. I got confirmation of the purchase via the USSD code but did not get a confirmation SMS. I didn't think much of this due to the purchase already being confirmed by the code string.

The very next day, the network disconnects me. I try to check my data, nothing. Try to check my airtime balance which should be R2, nothing. After calling customer care, it turns out I was being billed with out of data rates since I didn't purchase a bundle, which I did. I explained that it was an error on their side, can I get my airtime back or atleast the difference in data? No.

I had just been robbed because of an error on the carrier's side and pleasantly told there's nothing I can do to get that money and time I wasted back. I asked if there was anybody else I could speak to, the customer care agent said she'd take down my name and ask her supervisor to call me back in 10 minutes. 24 hours later and I'm still waiting for that call.

I try emailing MTN customer care explaining the situation and the phantom call back and eventually get a reply from someone that's not an automated response.

They tell me that I was charged out of bundle rates, like I didn't already know that from the call with customer care agent, and gave me a USSD string that I could dial to block out of bundle data use (which was a default setting on my Telkom prepaid simcard, by the way). No mention of a possible refund or return of some data I paid for subtracting what I had already used (which is not difficult for a network carrier to do).

The best part, the USSD string provided by that email doesn't work properly, I kept on getting either an unkown error reply or a reply with the number 1 before and an ok button (that doesn't do anything) before I reached the actual option to block. This led me to just giving up and removing their sim card.

I can't speak to home internet service provider side of MTN, but as a mobile network carrier, this is outrageous. They basically robbed me because of an error on their side and neither corrected their faulty USSD codes, nor made some sort of gesture to make up for their mistake.

Now, the question is, could this have happened to someone else? Possibly, because some people don't have how long 10GB of data lasts or are just to busy to catch a mistake like this and query it.

I have two other numbers, my primary being Telkom and my other prepaid sim that I use only for data being Vodacom and neither have given me this issue.

If you don't like being robbed because of a mistake that you did not make, then take my advice and stay far away, far away from MTN.

If you use them anyway, please make sure to block out of bundle data use unless something like this happens to you.

Please google the code or request it from MTN as I don't think I'm allowed to post that here.

I hope it works for you and you don't get robbed like I did.

I am struggling to cancel my contract with MTN. I’m shocked half of the population is in my shoes. How is it that MTN is scamming us and no one seems to care. Ombudsman? Why is it difficult for o cancel a contract when you are not happy with the service? Isn’t it a consumer right - especially if the contract lapsed or MTN keeps changing terms. This is unlawful. MTN isn’t shy to go back and forth with a client instead of cutting ties. Il never do any business with this pathetic company - not even in my next lifetime.

Most incompetent people and shittiest customer services.

MTN customer service has the most incompetent people that provides the poorest and shittiest service ever. I have been struggling with the issue whereby 3 out of 5 people can't get hold of me on a normal phone call for almost a month now, but I can phone out with no problem.

This issue was logged with MTN since the beginning of February 2026, the referance no has been created, and I get told that they have made notes on this ref no to get this issue sorted out. I gave them a different number to phone me after they said they would call me within 2 hours, which did not happen.

Upon phoning MTN again today, I was told that there are no notes made on the ref no, and they do not know what the issue is. So for almost a month, MTN has done fuckol about this issue and just left it.

I bought a new Samsung phone from MTN in Somerset Mall today. I had researched prices and found 3 suppliers offering the same deal. But when I asked into MTN I was met by Edward with a warm smile and a very helpful attitude. He helped me set up my phone and transfer all my data in the most positive and proactive way. In the past I found the staff at MTN most surly and unhelpful but they seem to have changed their attitude completely and I will certainly rate the service in that shop 101% and for Edward *****

Do not take out any contract. I’ve been battling to cancel my contract, paid fees they requested as well. Now they keep billing me and deducting from my bank account. Unable to call as I am now overseas. They refuse to give any feedback in writing and cannot get this contract off my name.

MTN Ghana installed fiber broadband at my place 3 days ago, and I paid in full. I was clearly told the service would start working within 20 minutes after installation.

Until now, the internet has never worked. No connection, no update, no proper follow-up. This is extremely frustrating and unprofessional.

Very disappointed with this experience.

Did MTN become a fraudulent company?

With the shady MTN Shesha deals trying to rip customers off in the news, it's clear that they are not a trustworthy company to do business with. I bought a 200 GB super data bundle today and got 199.75 GB. The previous time it was the same! How much are they skimming of customers taking a bit here and a bit there?
