Ovo are one of the worst engery companies to deal with. Within the space of 10mins today they change my direct debit amount twice. I spend 50mins on the phone to them. The first two people were helpful and resolved my issue. But the third person was utterly useless. I asked a simple question as to why a request to revert my direct debit back to what it was was mot actioned, thought it was OK to just read to me the messages I was sent earlier. They did not get the point, and would not answer the question. There service has gone down hill rapidly over the last 2 years. I used to recommend them to friends, but now I tell them not to go near them. I have now raised a complaint and apparently someone will call me with 48hrs. I am not going to hold my breath as I have heard that before. Avoid at all costs.
Don't touch OVO - dreadful practices, can't be trusted.
Really, really appalling company to deal with. At best incompetent, at worst corrupt. I was transferred from SSE in Nov 2021 even though I'd closed my account with SSE due to selling my house. I've had to make so many long and stressful phone calls over many months to try and get the credit back of £132 that remained on my account. A simple refund - surely? An account closed, with credit on it. Nothing contentious. But not for OVO. I have way too many pages of notes to go into all the details, over several months, of trying and failing to get back that credit. Now they're finally saying they're going to close my account, but it shows a cheque refund that I never received. They know this - I have an email from them saying it was cancelled but it's still showing on the final bill as though I've had that money back, which is wrong. This is the worst thing for me - that I have lost trust in anything they tell me, because they don't actually do what they say.
My name is Mr Hillman
My name is Mr Hillman, I wrote a very long review concerning OVO energy well for some reason trustpilot are saying that OVO energy are trying to contact me I received a message from Kristen said that she has sent me a private message to contact her well first of all it states that the email address I put in doesn't match the same on my account. Well the simple fact is I have never set up an account so even one of the OVO operators acknowledged that!!!. So I would like to know when Kristen is going to be contacting me by phone???. Because I have a lot of questions for her funny thing is that OVO are consistent in ignoring their valued customers if people want to check out the reviews about the bad treatment they constantly handing out.id advise people to think very carefully about using them they are a nightmare company by the way Kristen please feel free to contact me by phone as I can't contact you I have left my phone number with so many people so no excuses please also use my surname when you do because I think we should keep this formal don't you. I'm sure you will remember me when you have read this I have been constantly updating my review on a daily basis oh one more thing unfortunately I had to give you a 1 star in order to write a review but I can assure you I rate your company a 0... Once again I would like you to actually sort this out as you promised in your reply not just give people the impression you actually care about people ok il update today 30/7/22 I received a letter from the incompetent people at OVO dated 27/7/22 asking me if I would like to update readings daily/monthly which as you can imagine we changed our suppliers last week on the 22/7/22 and this was confirmed by one of the people who I spoke to a couple of days ago!!!!!! I clearly am being totally ignored by the so called customer care services I have given my readings to my new supplier who have confirmed that we are now using them. OVO ENERGY ARE CLEARLY UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND WE ARE NOT THEIR CUSTOMERS perhaps they can get someone who can understand that to ring me or maybe that is too much to ask from these people update to follow update today 1/8/22 after an hour on the phone eventually spoke to "Mohammed" who told me that my complaint has been resolved and I was happy with the resolution??? Clearly not the case they now have escalated my complaint and I should receive a response within 7 working days. Incompetentence is not a big enough word they should not be in business. Just looking at the reviews tells me they are consistent with the way they treat people as for Kristen I don't actually think that person exists or like everyone I've spoken to doesn't care. BEWARE PEOPLE DON'T USE OVO because you will be treated the same as all the other disgusted ex customers just read the reviews. JUST SEND ME A LETTER STATING YOU HAVE FINISHED INVESTIGATION SO I CAN REPORT THIS TO THE OMBUDSMAN.
The most terrible experience with OVO
The most terrible experience with OVO. Just before sse was taken over I was £ 230 in credit. When OVO took over I was £2200 in debt. I telephoned several times and was advised that the reading had been taken from a smart meter. I have never had a smart meter and have always given my meter readings manually. I sent though a photograph of my meter reading and I then became over £3000 in debt. The stress is dreadful, we are old age pensioners, my husband suffers from mental illness which I have explained and I just get told they will look into it. They are now adding daily smart meter readings to my account which in no way match the meter. I am not sure which way to turn. we live in a two bedroom terrace house, have always paid my bills but to be treated like this is dreadful.
terrible customer service
terrible customer service. Try and log a complaint they will tell you they will call you back in 48 hours, no call back a week later. Was told I had to wait 3 months for someone to get back to me about a smart meter issue. I waited 3 months, then was told my request had been lost. Finally arranged to get them to agree to sending someone out for my smart meter, the day came, no one turned up - that's after 4 months of waiting, spoke on online chat and was told I had to wait another month for another visit, and now I've been waiting 7 days for someone from their complaints team to get back to me!
Good experience with the online chat agent
I had a good experience with the online chat agent, Dylan Beard. He knows his products, market trends and deliver competent advice. I can't say the same for the phone line agent whom I spoke to previously, who does not understand her own product prices. But Dylan solved the problem for me.

try changing to Octopus energy
OVO are an unfunny joke
Terrible customer service
Online chat never works, always "exceptionally busy". Poor customer service and very unprofessional when dealing with them on the phone, I thought I had the wrong number when the operator answered the call with "Hello!?". Have a smart meter which doesn't work, always need to provide meter readings. Moving elsewhere

Appalling, cut my electricity off yesterday at 10am because my PAYG meter was £6 in debit, I am pretty ill with covid, topped up online but their top up suffered an outage all day. i did eventually get through on the phone, got a child in the house. They are a horrible company to deal with. AVOID
Thank God we left them in June
Thank God we left them in June. We are now with Octopus Energy, recommended by two couples we know who wouldn't take any nonsense. So far no problems at all. Yes, dealing with OVO is very bad for your health, can make you quite stressed and ill. They are totally and utterly incompetent and should be taken to Court for what they do to people. We left with a credit to us for £31, still waiting for that to be put back into our account. They said 10 working days. We'll see won't we but I won't hold my breath, especially now we've left. They took £60.70 overnight, due to a computer glitch they said. Never got it back, never will. I don't normally wish badly on anyone, but nothing is too bad for the people who run OVO. Karma.
I don't even want to give I star they…
I don't even want to give I star they are so bad,SSE moved my mother to this company, she had an estimated bill, tried to give an automated reading, had to wait for someone to answer, this took forever, gets through to an over sea call centre, who tells me that they will not send out a revised bill because she should have sent her reading in before the bill was sent out, bare I mind, the she is 94 has no access to any sort of wi fi or Internet, so she tries to pay her over estimated bill in a post office, but you can no longer pay there, I try an automated payment but there is no automated payment available, have to wait for someone to answer, but nobody does, again, bare in mind she lives in a rural setting she is 94,the only other alternative is a paypoint or Natwest bank, because these are the only places she can pay over the counter, these places are 5 miles away, she has me, but there are thousands of people like her that don't, how can these company's treat people in this manner is scandalous, heaven help us, that's all I can say, these energy companies should have never been sold off, capitist greed at its finest
Moved house last week
Moved house last week. Told OVO and they sent me an email to confirm. Tried to input my final meter reading today only to find that functionality gone from my account. My account is over 300 in credit and yet theh have still taken today's direct debit amount. Tried the online message service but that couldn't help so I had to call and found that I knew more about the timings than the customer service advisor. So glad I have a different provider at new property. I was also switched automatically from SSE.
How I wish I could move from OVO
How I wish I could move from OVO, I’ve tried but it seems no other energy company can offer anything right now due to the crisis. I was with SSE but was forced into being a customer with OVO thanks to SSE been taken over by OVO! Customer service is appalling, to try & get through on the phone drives me mad with their awful tinny sounding music as they never answer quickly, you have to hang on for so long it’s stressful. I agreed a direct debit amount with them & was confident it was in place, well it was for 3 months until today when on checking my bank direct debits they’ve taken double the amount! Unfortunately due to a problem with my emails I didn’t see the notice of increase until too late. They are a greedy company, my account is & was in credit so they have no need to have done this! I cancelled my direct debit today (can always be reinstated) as I want to be in control of my bank account & what goes out! I’m a widow living on my own so how on earth they can justify what they are taking from me is beyond me!
Threatening letters
My Mum was switched to Ovo from SSE. She's paid her bills over the phone but keeps getting threatening letters saying the debt collectors are coming. Thankfully she doesn't have a direct debit, or a smart meter, or an online account with them, so correspondence is by letter or phone. As with previous reviewers' comments, She's been told it's all been sorted and she won't get any more letters (by friendly customer service staff), but she has, so either they're incompetent or they're lying. I hope they can't do much damage as it stands?
Back in the day...
Back in the day, Ovo used to have a great app with great customer service. Over the last few years, they've somehow managed to flush all that completely down the toilet. They've gradually removed more and more functionality from the app/website. It barely works any more. Customer services are friendly enough but it's one broken promise after another.
Very bad
Very bad experience, I got transfered from SSE to Ovo in May. I have sent them my meter readings multiple of times and they lied that I didn't and still keep sending me estimated bills! Disgusting service from this company
I was moved to OVO from SSE and my…
I was moved to OVO from SSE and my experience so far is diabolical. I didn't ask for this move and was not given the opportunity to choose my supplier following the take over by OVO. The online account information for my account is consistently incorrect , The billing system shows I am in debit when I have paid the bill via bank transfer and have evidence to prove it. The many gas manual meter readings I sent online are not recognised. Despite talking to numerous customer service employees nothing gets resolved. I have never paid by direct debit nor do I have a Smartmer and never needed one whilst with SSE. I feel that OVO systems are geared to their original customers who might pay by direct debit and have Smart meters sending auto readings. This is the worst experience i have had with any utility company. My question for OVO is do they have the infrastructure to deal with the many many new customers from the takeover of SSE. The Customer Service Agents are all very polite and sympethetic of
problems but seem not to have the back up to actually get things put right. .
Liars and con artists
We have recently moved house (5weeks ago) with a new baby and have tried to switch from OVO to our chosen supplier. OVO have objected twice to the switch I rang them to ask why and they said I need to ring the new supplier (?!) about it . They said no money was owing on the account . I rang again after the second objection and was on hold for over an hour at which post I hung up as I can’t afford the bill. I then sent an email about it which replied ‘we cannot respond if you haven’t got an account’. I’m so worried and stressed about it . About the electric being switched off. They are con artists . And are trying to black mail us into using them .
Worst company to deal with
If I could give a zero rating I would.
Cannot believe I am writing another bad review on here about this company.
Took my direct debit payment on 1st July and it is still not allocated to my account. I have sent a copy of my bank statement to them showing they have taken the money from my account but still not sorted even after 2 phone calls and emails to them. One email even suggested I check with SSE to see if they had my payment, couldn't believe that suggestion. Spoke to them after that ridiculous suggestion and was put through to resolution department who promised a £30 goodwill gesture on my account which surprise surprise has not happened either but they keep putting the warning messages on my account saying I will owe them money by the end of the year and I should be paying another £19 per month on my direct debit. How do they know what I will owe when they can't even fix my account.
Cannot believe SSE thought that it was a good idea for this company to take over from them, they are the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.
Terrible company
Due to moving I had to cancel my gas and electric. I had a smart meter and OVO said I was in credit with my account and the balance was paid back to me. All good so far !! A few weeks later, after moving, I received an email saying I owed over £130 on my gas and electric bill. I emailed and got no response. Used the WhatsApp group and was fobbed off. Tried ringing to be told I had at least three quarters of an hour wait to get through. All the time I was getting threatening emails saying bailiffs would be instructed and my credit score would be affected. I had no clue what to do, my last resort was to write a letter. However before this I was contacted by the collection's dept of OVO wanting to know why I had not paid. I explained everything to this woman who put me through to who I believe was accounts. I hung on for for half an hour , which to be fair didn't bother me as they were paying for the call. I then spoke to another lady and explained the complete thing again. She ran my bills again and said that I had nothing to pay. I asked for an explanation as to why I was put through all this stress and she would not respond. This is a warning to all that get a bill after moving, especially if you have a smart meter...don't pay it, the chances are it is wrong.
