Welcome to Ridgeons, one of the largest independently owned timber and builders’ merchants in the UK, employing around 900 colleagues and trading from 26 local branches in the East of England. Our mission has stayed the same since 1911 when Cyril Ridgeon founded the business in the back room of his home in Cambridge – to make it easier for our customers to do business. With an extensive breadth and depth of product stock from bricks, timber and paints to kitchens, bathrooms and plumbing/heating solutions we have the solution to meet all sizes of building project requirements. Our teams take enormous pride in helping customers identify and fulfil their building needs and are passionate in their knowledge and understanding of the products and services we supply. The Ridgeon Group customers today are tradespeople, including builders, plumbers and heating engineers. We also serve the needs of major construction companies, regional house builders, property developers, public sector organisations and the DIY market. As well as Ridgeons Timber & Builders Merchants, the Group encompasses PlumbStock, which is dedicated to plumbing and heating; Ridgeons Forest Products, our timber processing team based at the 12 acre Herringswell site; Anglia Tool Centre, specialist sellers of hand power tools and CRS Wholesale, a bathroom and sanitary ware wholesaler. We remain proud of our continued heritage as a family-owned business and are driven by our values in creating lasting relationships with our customers, colleagues, suppliers and the local communities where we live and trade. We look forward to doing business with you.

Very poor service

Was told the chimney pots I needed were in stock at another branch an hour and a half away. They wouldn't deliver the pots to the other branch. As I needed it for the job I went to pick them up and they were they wrong pots, despite me showing them pictures of correct ones. They refused to make a special order deliver as this would have cost them £80. No regard for my time or fuel costs and very rude. No concern either for all my previous orders. Won't be using them again.

As much use as a ashtray on a motorbike

I ordered some materials to be delivered, they told me the date, which was Thursday,on the day before I made an additional order and was told it would all be delivered together. So far so good.
Starting working on customers property, dismantling and getting ready for new materials to be installed.i wasn't told a specific delivery time,so by 3 I rang to find out if they had got lost.Nobody knew anything about my order,so I went home.Next day my first order turned up, but not the second order. The driver however was brilliant,he placed the materials exactly where we wanted them.i told him about the missing items and he said the words in the title.i phoned Lowestoft branch to be told a load of waffle about the computer, showing incorrect stock levels and that I would have to wait a week. These people do not seem to understand that we have a buisness to run,and waiting around for materials costs us money.Their whole approach is couldnt care less, take it or leave it.
My advice is do not deal with these clowns unless you want a long wait and loads of waffle.

Ridgeons would make a tortoise seem fast in store or out on delivery!

Brought a bathroom suite 3 and half weeks ago still waiting for vanity unit. The shower tray and shower drain trap have been sent back as both were broken factory defects supposed to be 25 year guarantee and over £800 RRP for shower tray and glass screen alone. The 90mm shower drain they sent i would not trust not to leak so badly made cheap rubbish. the hidden toilet cistern they sold us might as well buy a tupperware tub from supermarket as would probably would last longer than the cheap rubbish plastic tank with holes all over it that we got and the lid doesn't fit probably either and has to be forced on. Need a kitchen soon but will not be buying it from Ridgeons now.
None of the staff know nothing about what they are selling you and most of the staff don't want to help either.

Two days lost trading due to no show delivery TWICE

A could not care less company. Purchased timber 0n 9th March for delivery on 20th March. Left customer for the day to receive stock. Phoned a number of times to eventually be told that "Na mate, Monday!!" I informed my customer that the timber had not been delivered to my workshop and that I would need to be there again to receive as I been promised it would be there first thing. HAHAHAHAHAHA at 11.00 called the branch to be told it was on the road. At 2.00pm I was told that they did not know where the truck was but it was en route. At 3.30 I phoned again to be told that they think the truck broke down in the morning. but wait and it will get there. At 5.00 I phoned again and was told that this was clearly not good enough, sorry waffle waffle, and if I would like to take some more time off I could come and get a refund. A sulky, unprofessional, dis organised and careless business that is out of touch with trading reality.

Great builders merchants.

Ridgeons have a good range of materials, tools etc and a fair few branches about.

they have quite a few really good staff and their prices are fair.

I have had an account for years and am in the trade. I have few problems with quality or prices, unlike one of their leading competitors who I am always having to query my invoices with.

Not quite as trade oriented as it used to be which is a shame as some good product lines are no longer stocked, but overall a good firm to have in your area.
